International Economic Policy for the Polycrisis
No full textThe struggle for world leadership between China and the United States, resulting in Russia's war with Ukraine, among other things, underscores the reality of structural changes in the global economy and the global system. This book explains that a new era of egocentrism and polycrisis in a multipolar system has emerged in international economic policy, with a strong drive toward interventionism and protectionism of national economies. Dynamic economic imbalances are becoming a constant factor in disrupting international competitiveness and forcing changes in both monetary policy and general economic policy. This prompts a new, more pragmatic definition of fundamental concepts in the theoretical sphere as well as an up-to-date and viable cause-and-effect narrative that is not disconnected from decision-making processes in the economic and political spheres.
This book provides a comprehensive diagnosis of the current global economy landscape and evaluates the processes affecting the economic and financial realities and the effectiveness of economic policies. The recent dynamics have rendered much of the existing literature outdated or confined to individual economies, economic systems, and regions. The book describes the evolution of international economic policy, offering a comparative analysis of foreign trade theories, especially in the context of macroeconomic trends and the impact of international trade in goods and services in the new balance of power of the global economy.

Moorings
No full textMoorings follows sailors from the Gulf of Kachchh in India as they voyage across the Indian Ocean on mechanized wooden sailing vessels known as vahans, or dhows. These voyages produce capital through moorings that are spatial, moral, material, and conceptual. With a view from the dhow, the book examines the social worlds of Muslim seafarers who have been rendered invisible even as they maneuver multiple regulatory regimes and the exigencies of life, navigating colonialism, neoliberalism, the rise of Hindutva, insurgency, climate change, and border regimes across the ocean. Based on historical and ethnographic research aboard ships, at ports, and in religious shrines and homes, Moorings shows how capitalism derives value from historically sedimented practices grounded in caste, gender, and transregional community-based forms of regulation.

No full textTrends in grain processing for the food industry have evolved significantly in recent years, driven by changes in consumer preferences, health considerations, and technological advancements. This Special Issue explores the increasing consumer demand for grain-based products due to their nutritional value and economic benefits. Different grains, such as wheat and buckwheat, are used to produce flour for various industries, including bakery, pasta, and beer production. The Special Issue discusses the impact of different ingredients, such as essential oils and sea buckthorn, on the rheological properties of dough and bread quality. It also examines the role of sourdough in improving bread volume, elasticity, and sensory characteristics. This Special Issue highlights the increasing importance of food products for managing health conditions like diabetes and gluten intolerance. Specific attention is given to the development of gluten-free and low-glycemic bakery products, as well as innovations in grain processing to improve the nutritional value of food products. Furthermore, various studies on non-gluten products, such as those using baobab and buckwheat flour, are discussed for their nutritional benefits. No full textGame streamers and live commentators are producing increasingly comprehensive analyses of gameplay, yet scholarship still tends to flatten the experiential media of video games into text for close reading. By shifting focus toward the immersiveness of video games, Playthrough Poetics makes the case for gameplay as a necessary, alternate method. Contributors to this volume engage widely with the activity of play through autoethnographies, meta-analyses of self-broadcasting, new procedural methods like gamespace soundwalking, as well as the affective aspects of games research. In doing so, they model new possibilities for academic players and gamers alike.
