China’s Semiconductor Industry Strategy
This open access book investigates the global semiconductor industrial chain, innovatively integrating a Dynamic Security Assessment Model (PCA-Entropy-TOPSIS) with decade-long microdata (2015–2024) to systematically deconstruct the complex interplay of geopolitical tensions, technological competition, and supply chain resilience
Intelligent Localization for Integrated Sensing and Communication
Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) systems. As 6G networks advance, the need for more efficient data collection, more intelligent system adaptability, and more accurate localization results. Traditional outdoor localization methods like GPS are limited indoors due to signal blockages, underscoring the need for innovative indoor localization technologies to meet the evolving requirements of modern applications. This "Open Access" book addresses key challenges in indoor localization using Channel State Information (CSI) and machine learning. It covers three core aspects: 1. More Efficient CSI Collection: Reducing human intervention in the data collection process through automated methods while ensuring high-quality, reliable data. 2. More Intelligent CSI Updates: Developing adaptive mechanisms that allow for real-time updates of CSI values, ensuring system robustness and flexibility in dynamic environments. 3. More Accurate Localization Applications: Employing advanced machine learning algorithms to improve localization precision, even in complex indoor settings. Through comprehensive theoretical insights and real-world experimental studies, this book presents the latest advancements in CSI-based indoor localization systems. The various machine learning techniques explored demonstrate their robustness and adaptability in real-world settings. Ideal for researchers, engineers, and students, this "Open Access" book provides both foundational and cutting-edge knowledge for anyone interested in developing intelligent indoor localization systems. Whether you’re new to the field or an experienced professional, this "Open Access" book offers valuable insights for advancing localization technologies in the age of ISAC and 6G
Advanced Learning Analytics Methods
This is an open access book. This comprehensive and timely methodological book introduces several novel topics under the overarching sections of advanced learning analytics (LA), artificial intelligence (AI), precision education, and complex systems. These topics are presented using accessible language, beginning with introductory chapters that cover the fundamentals of each section, followed by step-by-step tutorials featuring code and datasets for various methods within each area. Although the title refers to “advanced LA,” the book is written for the broader educational research community and is of interest to quantitative researchers from diverse backgrounds. The first section focuses on Explainable AI and machine learning (ML), with an introduction to the methods, their applications, and tutorials. The second section outlines the foundational concepts of LLMs, their potential applications, and related methodologies, with a tutorial on using LLMs in various analytical tasks. The third section focuses on complex systems, which have become integral to many disciplines and have enabled breakthroughs in modeling intractable problems. Here, three chapters cover Transition Network Analysis (TNA), which fills a critical gap in modeling the temporal unfolding of learning processes over time from a complex systems perspective. The final section addresses precision education, with a particular emphasis on person-centered and person-specific (idiographic) methodologies
Beyond the Cities
This open access book examines migrant settlement in regional Australia, offering policy recommendations and conceptual frameworks for sustainable integration. With a focus on key areas such as socio-political contexts, employment, education, health, and family challenges, this book provides a holistic approach to understanding and addressing the complexities of migrant settlement. Australia's rich cultural landscape is shaped by its status as a migration nation, with over half of its population either born overseas or having at least one migrant parent. While migration is a key element of Australia's growth, regional areas face unique challenges in attracting and retaining migrants. Despite government initiatives, skill shortages persist in regional industries, prompting a need for comprehensive policy addressing migrant needs and regional development. This book fills a critical gap in the literature, offering valuable insights for academics, policymakers, and service providers. It not only highlights the challenges faced by migrants in regional Australia but also underscores the importance of community capacity-building and support services in facilitating successful settlement
Video Games and Mental Health
How do video games and mental health intersect from the perspectives of psychology and game design? In recent years, the topic of mental health has gained tremendous importance for the games industry, affecting both the applied and entertainment games sectors. The former draws from established practices in diagnostics, digital medicine, therapy, and self-help to develop innovative and accessible tools; the latter follows in the tradition of games d'auteur, addressing the topic of mental health from a personal perspective. The contributors to this volume inspect current trends and future perspectives related to these phenomena to inform the work of psychologists and game designers
The Global Eye Health Handbook
This open-access book provides an up-to-date, evidence-based approach and tools for diagnosing and treating ocular emergencies in low-resource settings. It provides decision trees for common eye complaints, approaches to both common and sight-threatening conditions, basic treatment strategies, and guidance for triage to tertiary settings. Each chapter presents a systematic approach to diagnosing and managing various common eye conditions such as endophthalmitis, glaucoma, and uveitis, facilitating early and accurate diagnosis in emergency practice with minimal resources. The book also addresses prompt intervention and seamless referral to tertiary settings when necessary, enabling professionals to navigate emergencies confidently. It includes some standard operating procedures useful to primary and secondary healthcare professionals. The book is relevant for eye health professionals, empowering them to deliver critical care in resource-limited environments and safeguarding vision while preventing long-term complications. It also aligns with 'SDG 3 - Good Health and Well-being' and public health
