    The Tyrants Aisle dinosaur tracksite: A Late Cretaceous ichnofauna from Unit 4 of the Wapiti Formation (upper Campanian), Alberta, Canada - dataset

    These research data were amassed over the course of my Master of Science program, in which my co-authors and I documented, described and evaluated a large dinosaur tracksite along the Redwillow River near Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada (named 'Tyrants Aisle' herein). Field documentation of the tracksite was conducted in August 2018, and these data were used for all subsequent studies until the completion of my degree in September 2020. The data archived here consists of: tracksite photographs, digital 3D models, field mapping sheets, manuscript copies for each chapter/paper, track measurements, and various other files involved with the research. These data were used across four distinct thesis chapters, each of which is planned for, or already accepted for publication:
 
 1. A review of the Canadian record of dinosaur footprints;
 2. Exploring possible ontogenetic trajectories in tyrannosaurids using tracks from the Wapiti Formation (upper Campanian) of Alberta, Canada;
 3. Probable deinonychosaur tracks from the Wapiti Formation (upper Campanian) of Alberta, Canada;

    Assessing the Key Construction Safety Challenges in Sri Lanka: A Survey-Based Study

    The construction industry is a key driver of economic development in a developing country like Sri Lanka. However, many construction projects still face serious safety challenge areas such as poor attitude, bad conduct, negligence, out-of-date legislation, a lack of qualified safety officers and financial constraints. This study aims to determine which safety challenges are the key ones in the Sri Lankan construction industry and how these challenges are classified and related to each other. The significance of this research is that it identifies the most important safety challenge areas and addresses them, which helps to overcome other safety challenge areas that rely on them. To achieve this aim, survey questionnaires were developed, and a survey was conducted among key project stakeholders, including safety officers, engineers, managers, quantity surveyors and human resources personnel, to collect information on significant safety factors that can help in improving safety. Forty-three safety challenge elements were identified and assessed through factor analysis. The ten most significant safety challenge elements were extracted and categorised into two main categories: (i) economy-related and (ii) human-resource-related challenges. The results of this survey provide a very good foundation for project managers or safety managers to identify certain criteria when selecting construction staff and making project plans

    Questo saggio è dedicato allo stendardo processionale opistografo che Gentile da Fabriano dipinse attorno al 1420. Come molte opere medievali, il dipinto di Gentile è oggi decontestualizzato dal suo ambiente originario, inteso tanto come luogo fisico quanto come "ecosistema" devozionale in cui esso agiva e veniva fruito. Se il primo aspetto è stato ben indagato dalla critica, che ha ricostruito le vicende storiche dell'opera, il secondo è stato invece meno sondato. In questo studio ci concentreremo proprio su questo punto, con alcuni affondi preliminari sulle funzioni che il dipinto assumeva nelle pratiche devozionali di ambito francescano, in virtù della sua probabile pertinenza alla confraternita di San Francesco annessa all'omonima chiesa di Fabriano.     A large number of people worldwide suffer from visual impairment. However, most available therapies rely on impeding the development of a particular eye disorder. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for effective alternative treatments, specifically regenerative therapies. Extracellular vesicles, including exosomes, ectosomes, or microvesicles, are released by cells and play a potential role in regeneration. Following an introduction to EV biogenesis and isolation methods, this integrative review provides an overview of our current knowledge about EVs as a communication paradigm in the eye. Then, we focused on the therapeutic applications of EVs derived from conditioned medium, biological fluid, or tissue and highlighted some recent developments in strategies to boost the innate therapeutic potential of EVs by loading various kinds of drugs or being engineered at the level of producing cells or EVs. Challenges faced in the development of safe and effective translation of EV-based therapy into clinical settings for eye diseases are also discussed to pave the road toward reaching feasible regenerative therapies required for eye-related complications

    Tropylium-Catalyzed Domino Reactions for the Thioetherification of Levoglucosenone

    Approaches to substitute the chiral platform chemicals levoglucosenone and Cyrene with aryl and alkylthiols have been developed via the α-haloketones. Substitution of the 3-chloroalkene was catalyzed by Lewis acids, with the tropylium cation showing excellent activity and yield. When thiolate was replaced with methoxide, an alkoxyoxirane could be isolated, suggesting an analogous mechanism for the thiol substitution reaction. Substitution of the 3-bromo derivative of Cyrene with thiolate nucleophiles proceeded with retention of configuration in high yield, with an intermediate oxirane also demonstrated when using methoxide. Computed LUMO energies for the α-haloketones support pathways dependent on the type of halogen, with large contributions at the carbonyl, and a sterically inaccessible σ* orbital due to the bicyclic ring system

    Development of modified apple polysaccharide capped silver nanoparticles loaded with mesalamine for effective treatment of ulcerative colitis

    The objective of study was to develop modified apple polysaccharide (MAP) based silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) loaded with mesalamine (MES) for effective treatment of ulcerative colitis in acetic acid induced rat model. AgNPs were prepared by reducing silver nitrate using MAP solution. The size and zeta potential of AgNPs was 89 ± 3 nm and −16.3 ± 1.54 mV and AgNPs loaded with MES (AgNPs-MES) was 101 ± 9 nm and −14.27 ± 2.16 mV. The dissolution study revealed about 54% drug release after 5 h indicating release of drug at the colonic site. The in vivo study was carried out on acetic acid induced ulcerative colitis rats and efficacy of treatment was assessed through evaluation of disease activity index and level of antioxidants as well as tumor necrosis factor-α after 7th and 14th day of induction of colitis. Histopathological evaluation of colonic tissue was also carried out. The results revealed that AgNPs-MES (high dose) provided better therapeutic efficacy for the treatment of UC as compared to its low dose, MES alone, MES-MAP, AgNPs alone and MAP alone. It was concluded that MAP based AgNPs loaded with MES were successfully formulated and found to be effective in treating ulcerative colitis

    Exploring Climate Emotions in Adolescents

    This thesis investigates the emotional and psychological impacts of climate change on adolescents and provides practical insights for educators, mental health practitioners and policymakers. The research addresses key gaps in the literature by investigating how adolescents experience, articulate and respond to climate emotions, particularly in a rural Australian context. The research is guided by the question: How do adolescents experience and navigate climate-related emotions arising from both direct and indirect exposure to climate change, and what socio-ecological factors support their mental health and engagement with climate issues? To address this question, a program of research comprising four studies was used. Study 1, a systematic scoping review of the literature on eco-anxiety, revealed inconsistencies in conceptualisation and measurement of the construct and provided recommendations for the future research directions. Study 2 was a systematic narrative review of the existing research into climaterelated emotions as experienced by children and adolescents, examining the links between climate emotions and mental health outcomes and climate action, respectively. The findings highlighted the dual impact of climate emotions, with fear and anxiety driving action for some but leading to feelings of helplessness for others, while hope and empowerment were found to be linked to greater climate engagement. Study 3 used a mixed-methods approach, incorporating quantitative survey and qualitative photo-elicitation focus groups to explore how rural Australian adolescents engage with climate emotions. The findings indicated that connection to nature was a significant factor in shaping both emotional responses and pro-climate behaviours, with eco-anxiety and eco-anger linked to greater climate engagement. Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory was used in Study 4 to examine multi-sectoral strategies for supporting climate-related mental health among adolescents. This study emphasised the importance of integrating climate education, mental health support and community engagement to foster emotional resilience and agency. This thesis argues that climate-related emotions are complex and should not be pathologised. Instead, climate emotions need to be acknowledged as valid responses to environmental threats while supporting adolescents' sense of agency and engagement. While climate emotions can be distressing, they can also be constructive, driving action when adolescents have the necessary support systems. A key contribution of this research is its focus on rural adolescents, a population underrepresented in climate emotion research. The findings highlight how geographic context shapes climate-related emotions, with rural adolescents expressing a deep connection to nature and a sense of responsibility toward the land. However, the study also discusses the risks posed by climate-driven environmental loss, such as how the degradation of natural landscapes can complicate efforts to maintain the mental health benefits of nature connection. Furthermore, this program of research underscores the need for collaboration across sectors to address climate-related emotions and mental health rather than focusing solely on individual responses. The findings suggest that educators, mental health professionals, policymakers and communities all play a role in ensuring that adolescents have the knowledge, support and opportunities to navigate climate distress and take meaningful action. Overall, this thesis makes both theoretical and applied contributions to the field. Theoretically, it contributes to the literature by advancing the understanding of climate emotions within a broader socio-ecological framework. Practically, it informs climate-responsive education, mental health interventions and policy strategies, advocating for an integrated approach to adolescent well-being and climate engagement

    Exploring subjectivity through Q methodology

    This paper explores the process of planning and designing a project employing Q methodology to research beliefs and perspectives. The systematic study of subjectivity using Q Methodology offers a robust method for researching viewpoints with an established ninety-year history (Stephenson, 1935). It is valued for its statement sorting and ranking procedure that ‘mimics the typical human thought process for ideas, which is in relation to other ideas, not in isolation’ (Mackinnon et al, 2022). Increasingly, researchers studying beliefs are employing Q methodology (Camenzuli et al., 2023; Fraschini et al., 2024; Lundberg, 2019; Sung & Akhtar, 2017) due to its unique ability to ‘uncover patterns of beliefs, experiences or viewpoints that exist within a group’ (Brown, 1996). In addition, Q research methods are reported to be more engaging for participants and less time consuming to complete (ten Klooster et al., 2008) when compared to Likert scale surveys, and promote abstract thinking (Gao & Soranzo, 2020), generating findings that can be valued for their basis on ‘holistic thinking rather than on isolated ratings’ (Takács et. al, 2024). Q methodology may be fruitful for researchers across several fields of study, contributing to the exploration of global perspectives
