    ENTREPRENEURIAL ORIENTATION AND SURVIVAL OF SMALL AND MEDIUM SCALE ENTERPRISES IN LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA

    This study is aimed at investigating the contribution of Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) to the survival of Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (SMEs) in Lagos State, Nigeria. Descriptive cross-sectional survey technique was adopted and a sample size of 396 SMEs was selected. Data for the study were gathered through structured questionnaire and analyzed with both descriptive and inferential statistics. The results indicated that EO significantly influences the survival of SMEs in Lagos State. Specifically, the study discovered that risk-taking, proactiveness and innovativeness have significant and positive relationship with survival of SMEs in Lagos State while competitive aggressiveness and autonomy were not significant. It is therefore recommended that SMEs in Lagos State should deepen their engagement of EO, with focus on risk-taking, proactiveness and innovativeness. The government, through relevant agencies should continue to educate SMEs owners/managers on the benefits of EO and mode of integrating it into their business

    EFFECTS OF EMOTIONAL ABUSED ON CHILD ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION IN ZARIA LOCAL GOVERNMENT OF KADUNA STATE

    The most prevalent type of child abuse that has a significant effect on the life of a child is the emotional abused. Many societal crimes happen due to emotional scars that a child has at early stage of life from the home, by the parents, siblings and other care givers which may regrettably affects the child entrepreneurship education in school, such as poor performance and lack of proper concentration in class. It is in view of that that this paper tried to find out the effect of emotional abused on child entrepreneurship education. The study adopted descriptive cross sectional survey research design. Convenience sampling technique was used to select six public secondary schools in Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna state. Questionnaire was used to collect data from SS1- SS111 students. However, the data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentage for demographic characteristics, while mean and standard deviation was used to interpret the data collected. Therefore, based on the findings possible recommendations were made such as; parent should try and adopt a good parental style with flexibility according to situation on ground; also, home visitation by teachers will give room for better interaction with parents, and serves as a means of tracing any kind of abused on children, in order to prevent occurrence of harmful effects on the child entrepreneurship education

    INDIGENOUS ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INTERGENERATIONAL WEALTH TRANSFER AMONG GRADUATES IN LAGOS STATE, NIGERIA

    Promoting economic empowerment among Indigenous communities worldwide has made Indigenous entrepreneurship and intergenerational wealth transfer increasingly crucial. Recognizing the importance of economic sustainability and cultural preservation, Indigenous individuals increasingly embrace entrepreneurship to create wealth, generate employment opportunities, and foster community development. This study aimed to explore how Indigenous entrepreneurship graduates contribute to transferring wealth, knowledge, and business assets to future generations while preserving Indigenous cultural values. The research employed a combined approach of correlation analysis and Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology to achieve comprehensive insights into the study. This method facilitated a holistic understanding of the subject matter. Correlation analysis results indicated a significant and positive relationship between Indigenous entrepreneurship and intergenerational wealth transfer among graduates in Lagos State (r = 0.76, p < 0.001). These findings suggest that increased engagement in Indigenous entrepreneurship practices among graduates is associated with higher success in transferring wealth to future generations Moreover, the Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology ensured the active involvement and collaboration of various stakeholders, including Indigenous communities, graduates, policymakers, and researchers. The study aimed to incorporate these key stakeholders' perspectives and expertise. Based on the results, indigenous knowledge was recommended to be integrated into entrepreneurship education curricula and establish mentorship programs connecting graduates with successful indigenous entrepreneurs. These initiatives aim to foster a supportive environment that empowers indigenous graduates to succeed in entrepreneurship while preserving their cultural heritage

    BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY OF SMALL SCALE ENTERPRISES IN BAYELSA STATEE, NIGERIA

    The study examines the link between business development and economic sustainability of small-scale enterprises in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two null hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted a survey design. The population of the study comprised 200 selected entrepreneurs. The instrument used was an 8-item questionnaire. A reliability coefficient of 0.75 for the instrument was determined using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The study employed mean and standard derivation to analyze the data on the research questions and Pearson’s Product Moment Correlation to test the hypotheses at 0.05 alpha level. The findings reveal that business development through research and development and local technology adoption offer significant economic sustainability in terms of productivity and customer satisfaction in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The study recommends that government and entrepreneurs should continue to improve on business development to enhance economic sustainability of small scale enterprises in Bayelsa State, Nigeria

    INFLUENCE OF SELF-EFFICACY AND CAREER ASPIRATION ON STUDENTS’ CHOICE OF COMMERCIAL SUBJECTS IN KOGI STATE SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS

    The study investigated the perceived influence of self-efficacy and career aspiration on students’ choice of commercial subjects in senior secondary schools in Kogi State, Nigeria. A Descriptive survey research design was adopted on a target population of 830 (SSS 3) students offering financial accounting, commerce and economics from 73 public senior secondary schools in the Kogi State Teaching Service Commission (KSTSC) for 2020/2021 session. The entire population was used as sample for the study because the population was considered to be of manageable size. The instrument for data collection was a self-constructed questionnaire titled “Self-efficacy and Career aspiration Questionnaire (SECAQ)” that was administered to students after validation and tested for reliability. The analysis of the data was done using mean and standard deviation for research questions and independent t-test analysis was used to test the two null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Strongly Agree and Agree was collapsed into Agree while Disagree and Strongly Disagree was collapsed into Disagree. The findings from the study revealed that students have positive perception towards Self-efficacy and career aspiration on students’ choice of commercial subjects in senior secondary schools. Based on the findings, part of the recommendations made are that since self-efficacy is an individual's belief in their capacity to execute behaviors necessary to produce specific performance attainments, parents and school councilors should not force any student on the choice of a particular subject. And that a strong parent-child relationship is essential in shaping the students career choice. In this regard, it is recommended also that parents should take time to discuss different career choices with their children. Whenever necessary, the parents should express satisfaction with the child’s decision in order for them to realize their career aspiration

    FINANCIAL OPENNESS AND CAPITAL MARKET DEVELOPMENT IN SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN COUNTRIES

    This study investigates the nexus between financial openness and capital market development in sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries from 1990 to 2022. Secondary data collected from the World Development Indicator and Chinn-Ito index for the sampled sub-Saharan African countries were employed in the analysis. To present a robust outcome in the relationships, the data were analyzed using Panel data analysis (the fixed effect and random effect models) techniques. The findings revealed that the capital account openness, foreign portfolio investment, foreign remittance and domestic credit to private sector (proxy for banking sector development) all have significant effect on the development of capital market in SSA countries. The study recommended among others that Open capital account should be maintained by SSA countries, through the removal of restrictions that might hinder the free flow of international financial resources and capital, though caution should however be exercised

    IMPACT OF MICROFINANCE IN PROMOTING WOMEN ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND THE CHALLENGES IN JIGAWA STATE

    Women entrepreneurship is something rarely practiced in northern part of the Nigeria, but it was considered as a way to sustainability as a result of microfinance loans and credits given to most of them especially in Jigawa State, the study takes a fleeting analysis of the impact of microfinance credit in promoting women entrepreneurship and their challenges in Jigawa state, an interview research method was adopted within 14 local government areas of the state to obtain reliable result of the study. The analysis of data was made with the help of statistical package of social science SPSS through which the multiple regression analysis was the technique used. Microfinance credits plays a vital role in promoting women entrepreneurship inJigawaStateat5%level of significant (P˂0.05)(R2=0.882),about 88.2% effect of independent variable(Microfinance-credits) was explained in the dependent variable(Women entrepreneurship) which orated that microfinance loans and credits activities promotes and strengthen the affairs of small and medium-scale enterprises holds by women in the states mostof them became self[1]reliable and the core employers of labour through which many women were economically settled as a result of entrepreneurship activities. The study recommends that women entrepreneurs should do all their best to utilize the loans given to them appropriately for sustainable economic growth and development in the state and the nation in general, also government should increase the activities of microfinance institutions in-terms of loans assessments by women to enable them get link to start- up capital through for their entrepreneurship ventures, as some of them were paused behind entrepreneurial opportunities as a result of capital deficiencies

    MICROFINANCE SERVICES AND PERFORMANCE OF MICRO BUSINESSES IN ONDO STATE, NIGERIA

    This paper examined microfinance services and performance of micro businesses in Ondo State Nigeria. The study makes used of quantitative research technique by administering two hundred and forty (240) questionnaire. This study used four (4) licensed microfinance banks operating in Ondo and Akure town in Ondo State. Both descriptive such as frequency, percentages, mean and standard deviation; and inferential statistics such as Anova were used in analyses of this study with the use of SPSS for the analysis.   Findings show that the significant effect of microfinance service (F =428.834; p = 0.000) have a positive impact on the survival of these micro businesses, it also discovered that microfinance services have a positive impact on the productivity (F =13.757; p = 0.000). The study concluded that availability of micro finance services has a significant influence on the survival and productivity of micro business in Ondo State Nigeria. The study recommended that micro business should be able to access microfinance services for appropriate assistant

    AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE CHALLENGES OF ESTABLISHING OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT CENTRE (EDCS) IN NIGERIAN POLYTECHNICS

    Entrepreneurship development centres are a source of creative self-employment aimed at economic growth in a rapidly globalizing world, this helps research investigate the challenges of establishing entrepreneurship development centre in Nigeria. The study population includes 140 of both Academic, and non-Academic, which is within the range of 20-65 years and the sample size 103. The study employed simple random sampling also Primary data and Questionnaire was adopted as Source and Method of Data Collection, The study utilised partial least square structural equation modelling to process data. The study shows that the R2 value is 0.670, which means Establishment Challenges; explain 67% variance in Entrepreneurship development. The study also shows the effect size of Financial Challenges and Managerial Challenges are small. However, Government Interference and Policy Issues are moderate on the establishment of Entrepreneurship development centre in Nigeria. As can be seen, all the variables have small effect size. The findings discovered that Managerial Challenges and financial challenges have negative impact on the establishment of entrepreneurship development in Nigeria. However, Policy issues and Government interference have significant impact on the establishment of entrepreneurship development centre in Nigerian Polytechnics. The study therefore recommends that Government should provide more funds especially for the establishment of entrepreneurship centres in Polytechnic where there is none. Management of Polytechnic should make sure effective and efficient Utilisation of funds appropriate for the establishment of entrepreneurship centres in Polytechnic in Nigeria

    ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION AND ENTREPRENEURIAL INTENTION: THE PLACE OF TEACHING METHOD

    As part of the strategy to curb the rising unemployment among Nigerian undergraduates, entrepreneurship subjects were made compulsory in the curriculum of all the Higher Educational Institutions (HEIs) in Nigeria. The idea is to trigger strong desire for enterprise creation rather than remaining job seekers among the undergraduates upon graduation. Accordingly, this paper seeks to determine effects of education on entrepreneurial intentions among university students and argue on the best teaching method. The model was empirically tested and was analyzed using the partial least square structural equation modelling technique on a sample of 312 higher institution students in Zamfara State. The finding shows that entrepreneurial intention is taken as a function of educational support. We conclude that the teaching method should be more of practical, apprenticeship than lecture method
