Morphological Characteristics of Adaptation of the Lungs in the Ground Spinal
This article discusses the morphological changes in the structures of the lungs when adapting to some extreme factors and environmental conditions.One of the most pressing problems of biology is the elucidation of the mechanisms of adaptation of the human body and animals to changing environmental conditions [1-7]. This problem can be viewed in two aspects: firstly, in terms of the emergence of adaptive rearrangements in the body when exposed to environmental factors as a manifestation of the body\u27s plasticity in ontogenesis, secondly, in terms of the emergence of adaptation, as genetically and phenotypically fixed adaptation of living organisms to the conditions environment, which arose in the course of evolution [8-13]. The key point here is the identification and comparison of subtle mechanisms of similar (to the same environmental factor) adaptation that arise in ontogenesis and formed in phylogenesis [14-21]
The Association between Adiponectin Gene Polymorphism and Waist Circumference Changes in Obese/Overweight Adults after Aerobic Exercise and Diet Treatment
Background: The Indonesian basic health research survey reports that the prevalence of overweight/obese (ow/ob) adults was increased from 15% in 2010 to 20% in 2013 for male, and 26% in 2010 to 35% in 2013 for female. Adiponectin is associated with various parameters of metabolic syndrome. This study aimed to investigate the effect of adiponectin gene polymorphism on waist circumference of ow/ob adults after aerobic exercise.
Method: This experimental study was conducted on n=36 ow/ob women. This study used one group pre-posttest design. Respondents were instructed to perform alternately between aerobic exercise and OCD diet. The aerobic exercise was conducted three times a week. After conducting aerobic exercise, respondents performed OCD diet the following day. This alternating pattern was performed for 6 weeks. After performing 6-weeks aerobic exercise, waist circumference was then measured again. The measured variables were variation of adiponectin gene and waist circumference. The gene variation was performed at the Nechri Laboratory.
Result: Overall, waist circumference was lowered from 80.42+-7.16 to 89.11+-6.67. The proportion of genetic variation proportion was found the highest in TT gene variation (75%). After aerobic exercise, waist circumference was significantly reduced in all TT and GT gene variation (p<0.001). There was no significant difference in waist circumference changes between gene variations.
Conclusion: Gene variation did not directly contribute to the changes of waist circumference, but through the aerobic exercise practice plus OCD diet. Further study on a larger population and from a different characteristic and nutritional status is needed to see the effect of polymorphisms on anthropometric indices
Diagnosis and Treatment of Chronic Heart Failure in Diabetes of the 2nd Type
Chronic heart failure (CHF) is an acute medical and social problem relating to the priorities of the national health systems of most countries of the world due to the increasing spread of this syndrome, despite the continuous improvement of treatment. The near future promises only the worsening of the problem: the incidence and prevalence of CHF increases due to the increase in life expectancy.Thus, the need to clarify the features of the diagnosis of CHF in patients with diabetes mellitus and the improvement of their therapy is beyond doubt.The aim of this research is to clarify the frequency of chronic heart failure in patients with diabetes type 2 in the specialized | department of the hospital and the unorganized urban population, to assess the adequacy of its diagnosis and treatment.To achieve this goal, the following tasks:1. To identify the prevalence of chronic heart failure in patients with diabetes type 2.2. To assess the level of diagnosis of chronic heart failure in patients with diabetes type 2.3. To analyze the state of drug therapy in patients with diabetes type 2 in the presence of chronic heart failure.For the first time, the prevalence of CHF in patients with diabetes type 2 mellitus in an unorganized urban population studied
Effect of Grinding the Herb and Boiling the Infusion on Total Phenolic Content and Antioxidant Capacity of Herbal Infusions
Herbal infusions are one of the most consumed beverages in the world. The object of this work was to estimate the phenolic content and evaluate the antioxidant capacity of Cumin seeds (Cuminum cyminum L.) and Anise seeds (Pimpinella anisum L.) infusions, and study the effect of grinding the herb and boiling the infusion on that. The total phenolic content (TPC) was determined by Folin-Ciocalteu method, and the antioxidant capacity was evaluated by two methods, DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging assay and FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant power) assay. The TPC and antioxidant activity have increased by grinding the herb and boiling the infusion. By grinding, the TPC and antioxidant activity have nearly multiplied
Pharmacological Potential, Botany, Biological and Chemical Properties of Albuca setosa (Asparagaceae) Endemic to Southern Africa
Albuca setosa is a flowering bulb in the Asparagaceae family, endemic to southern Africa, thrives well on rocky ground, flats and mountain slopes. This review is an appraisal of the current information on A. setosa and a systematic and comprehensive literature search was conducted using electronic scientific journal articles, books and theses. The bulbous plant is extensively used for medicinal purposes, cultural purposes and to end quarrels between enemies. In the framework of the taxonomic revision of Albuca, a complete description of A. setosa and data on cytology, morphology, ecology and distribution and economic importance are discussed. Pharmacological screening showed that A. setosa possesses some anti-ulcerogenic, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. The bulbous plant is used for the treatment of wounds, articulation problems, rheumatoid arthritis, digestive disorder and venereal diseases
The Study of Hematological Parameters of Animals in the Application of Enterosorbent Food Fiber
One of the most important issues is the study of healthy nutrition of the population of Kazakhstan. Proper nutrition provides growth, contributes to the prevention of diseases, increase efficiency and prolong life of people, while creating conditions for adequate adaptation to the environment. A large part of the population of Kazakhstan as a result of technological processing, the use of inferior in chemical composition of food raw materials, the influence of other causes, does not receive the necessary amount of essential components of food, which lead to illness, premature old age and shortened life. The situation is aggravated by the low cultural level of the population in terms of good nutrition and the lack of skills to lead a healthy lifestyle. Pathogenesis and Varietal Screening for Panama Wilt Disease of Banana in Pakistan
Banana is the world largest fruit crop with an annual production of 114 million tonnes and Pakistan produces 154,800 tons annually. Panama wilt caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (Foc) is the most widespread and destructive banana diseases worldwide. In Pakistan Panama disease was first recorded in 2012 in few banana fields of district Thatta and Hyderabad in the Sindh. The infection processes and mechanisms of pathogenesis of Foc in relation to symptoms expression and evaluation of Cavendish varieties for panama wilt of banana were studied. Pathogenesis was confirmed by establishing Koch’s postulates. The experiment was to evaluate occurrences of necrotic and wilting symptoms and the disease intensity on banana suckers of Cavendish cultivar, two months plantlets were artificially inoculated with 106 conidia/ml suspension of Foc. Five tested Cavendish varieties viz., w11, G9, Basari, Pisang and BT10 showed low to high average of score of wilting and necrotic symptoms. Based on the calculation of disease intensities, all Cavendish varieties tested were identified as susceptible to Foc infection
A Retrospective Review on Post Traumatic Agitation Predictors in Hospitalized Patients with Acute Traumatic Brain Injury
Objectives: To determine if socio-demographic, medical and radiological variables have an impact on the risk of developing post-traumatic agitation in patients with mild complex to severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). In addition, determine prognosis using the Extended Glasgow Outcome Scale (GOS-E), length of stay (LOS) and orientation at discharge of agitated patients with TBI.Methods: A retrospective observational study of all 778 patients admitted to the Montreal General Hospital, a tertiary specialized trauma centre, following a TBI that occurred between 2013 and 2015. Data was collected from the national trauma registry and TBI program database. Independent variables collected were socio-demographic, clinical, and neurological information. Dependent variables were LOS in days, non-pharmacological treatment, GOS-E at discharge, and discharge destination.Results: 55 patients (7.1%) suffered from post-traumatic agitation. The group with agitation had a significantly higher proportion of men, psychiatric history and suffered in a greater proportion a moderate TBI. The median GCS was significantly lower and post traumatic amnesia was longer in subjects with agitation. A higher percentage of patients with agitation were transferred to long-term care (LTC) facilities
Habitual Use of Medicinal Plants among a Group of Jordanian Elderly According to Physical Activity and Gender
Introduction: Traditional medicine use has grown significantly in the last few decades around the world. Similarly, in Jordan. The information regarding the percentages of older adults in Jordan who adopt a healthy life-style and consuming medicinal plants along with performing physical activity are limited.Objective: To evaluates the use of medicinal plants among a sample of Jordanian elderly population and the effect of physical activity and gender on their habitual medicinal plants usage.Method: A cross sectional study was conducted on 120 elderly Jordanian (62 women; 58 men) and evaluated for medicinal plant usage. A questionnaire was used for collecting personal, social, anthropometries and lifestyle information including the daily activities through a personal interview by the principal investigator.Results: In this study about 90% of all participates were using medicinal plants and 95% of males and females used medicinal plants were physically active. Females were used medicinal plants (100%) more than male (79.31%), the most medicinal plants used among elderlies were sage (88.33%), thyme (85.00%) and peppermint (81.67%).Conclusion: The study highlight the increasing number of herbal users among Jordanian elderlies especially females and physically active people and alarming about the possible risk associated with herbal/drug interactions among this age group
Chemometrics Analysis Combined with GC-MS and NMR Spectroscopy Analysis of Fatty Acids as a Means of Discriminating Butterfat Adulteration
The adulteration of butter has become a major problem in food industries. Butter has the similar characteristic to lard which makes lard a desirable adulterant in butter due to economic advantages. Therefore, the method of detection to analyse the adulteration practice must be developed. This study used NMR spectroscopy in combination with chemometrics for the authentication of butter from lard. The presence of lard as an adulterant in butter has been analysed using Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy with the aid of chemometric of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Discriminant Analysis (DA). PC1 described 82% of the variation while PC2 accounted for 15% of the variation resulted in a model that described 80% of the total variance in the data. With 82% of the peak variation along the first PC, it was clear that all seventeen samples of butter in the market and pure lard sample were formed according to their own group and showed two well-defined and well-separated group. DA model classified 100% of all samples accurately according to its group (butter and butter adulterated with animal fats), meaning that no samples were misclassified into the wrong group. Lard was successfully determined at 2.63 ppm. In this study, NMR and PCA analysis has successfully discriminated between the market sample and lard and the results established that there is no lard being adulterated in all commercial butter samples. This could be a potential identification approach to determine if the product has been deceived in market
