    Glubran- 2 Acrylic Glue for Percutaneous Embolization of Intramuscular Vascular Malformations of Lower Limbs: Preliminary Experience

    Aims: Vascular anomalies (VA) represent a heterogeneous and rare group of pathologies. Ethanol is considered the gold standard in endovascular embolization procedures, but its use exposes to the risk of major complications. Glubran-2 is a new glue agent, used mainly for catheter-based cerebral embolization. Our study reported preliminary experiences with a group of 13 patients treated for intramuscular VA of limbs with Glubran-2 solution by venous retrograde percutaneous embolization. Methods: Through an Angiographic CT/MRI we selected 13 adult patients (6 males, 7 females), seven with limb AVMs and six with limb VM, all intramuscular. All patients reported pain and functional limitation as presenting symptoms. Glubran-2 was injected under fluoroscopic guidance through multiple percutaneous punctures, to cover the entire extension of the lesion. Results: In the 6-month follow-up, all patients reported pain reduction, rapid recovery of function, favourable post-operative course and absence of major complications. Angio-RMI control was performed in all patients. It showed Glubran-2 in place and the exclusion of the malformation. Percutaneous retrograde embolization with Glubran-2 permanently excluded muscle malformations from circulation: only one embolization procedure was, in 12 of 13 patients, sufficient for a complete and definitive treatment. Rapid polymerization of Glubran-2 glue, after its injection, cancelled the risk of pulmonary embolisms and skin necrosis. Secondary surgical removal was never necessary to complete treatment of these deep muscle malformations. Conclusions: This study showed that the percutaneous embolization technique with Glubran-2 glue can be considered favorable in the treatment of the VA of the limbs for its easier handling and promising outcome

This problem cannot be solved by simply increasing the amount of food consumed. Plant-based antioxidants are widely used for the prevention and treatment of diseases with the aim of eliminating free radicals from the body and restoring the body\u27s antioxidant defense system. The article shows biochemical indicators that reflect the nature of changes in the early stages of the formation of response of the animal organism during toxic poisoning and the use of sour-milk products using enter sorbent dietary fiber from rice husk. With an increase in the dosage and frequency of CCl4 administration, the effect of deep poisoning and impaired lymph dynamics was obtained. Along with a decrease in the content of total protein and urea in lymph and blood plasma, an increase in ALT and AST levels in blood plasma by 2.5–3 times, as well as an increase in thymol test, were noted. Antioxidant defense mechanisms are universal in order to increase the body\u27s vitality

    Issues of Type 2 Diabetes Disease Effective Treatment in Kazakhstan

    In his address to the people, the First President of our country, emphasized the need to introduce innovative methods of treating socially significant diseases. Among these diseases, diabetes holds a special position. More than 14,000 new cases of diabetes mellitus are officially detected annually in Kazakhstan.The real picture of the disease is difficult to compare with these data. This review discusses the prevalence of type 2 diabetes among the population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the causing factors such as age, race, genetic predisposition (OR = 3), obesity, glucose level and total cholesterol etc.It was found that the main complications and concomitant diseases of diabetes in residents of different regions are polyneuropathy - 22.4%, diabetic retinopathy - 14%, diabetic foot syndrome - 13.6%, arterial hypertension - 13.6% and coronary heart disease (CHD) - 14.4%. Only 1.8% of the population is diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, latent manifestations of type 2 diabetes mellitus, one in four people in Kazakhstan can be sick, 38% of adults aged 20-79 suffer from prediabetes, and 8.2% with diabetes. It is believed that by 2030 in Kazakhstan, there may be about a million patients with diabetes.Diabetes mellitus, in accordance with the Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On the health of the people and the health care system” belongs to the category of socially significant diseases.Therefore, the study of type 2 diabetes is one of the urgent problems of the public health in Kazakhstan

    A Synthesis and Review of Medicinal uses, Phytochemistry and Pharmacological Properties of Maerua crassifolia Forssk. (Capparaceae)

    Maerua crassifolia Forssk. is an evergreen tree widely used as traditional medicine throughout its distributional range in the Sahel region, peninsular Arabia east to Pakistan, east and west Africa. This study is aimed at providing a critical review of medicinal uses, phytochemical and pharmacological properties of M. crassifolia. Documented information on medicinal uses, phytochemical and pharmacological properties of M. crassifolia was collected from several online sources such as Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed and Science Direct, and pre-electronic sources such as book chapters, books, journal articles and scientific publications obtained from the university library. The articles published between 1964 and 2020 were used in this study. This study revealed that the bark, fruit, leaf and twig infusion and/or decoction of M. crassifolia are mainly used as ethnoveterinary medicine, and traditional medicine for cephalalgia, headache, fever, malaria, wounds, skin infections, toothache and gastro-intestinal problems. Phytochemical compounds identified from the species include alkaloids, amino acids, betaines, cardiac glycosides, fatty acids, flavonoids, lignan glucosides, phenolics, quaternary ammonium compounds, saponins, steroids, tannins and terpenoids. The M. crassifolia extracts exhibited antibacterial, anti-diarrhoeal, analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiplasmodial, antiprotozoal, antitrypanosomal, antipyretic and cytotoxicity activities. Maerua crassifolia should be subjected to detailed phytochemical, pharmacological and toxicological evaluations aimed at correlating its medicinal uses with its phytochemistry and pharmacological activities

    Cladostemon kirkii (Oliv.) Pax & Gilg is a shrub or a small tree widely used as traditional medicine in tropical Africa. This study is aimed at evaluating the chemical properties, biological activities and ethnomedicinal uses of C. kirkii. Results of the current study are based on data derived from several online databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed and Science Direct, and pre-electronic sources such as scientific publications, books, dissertations, book chapters and journal articles. The articles published between 1960 and 2019 were used in this study. This study revealed that the bark, leaf, root and stem infusion and/or decoction of C. kirkii are mainly used as traditional medicines for boils, colds, gastro-intestinal problems, hypertension, ophthalmia, rheumatism, sexual dysfunction, abdominal pains, sexually transmitted infections, sores and wounds. Phytochemical compounds identified from the species include mearnsitrin, myricitrin, kaempferol-5-rhamnoside, kaempferin, kaempferol 3-gluco-7-rhamnoside, quercetin 3,7-dirhamnoside, quercetin 3-gluco-7-rhamnoside, choline, 3-hydroxyprolinebetaine and tetramethylammonium. Cladostemon kirkii should be subjected to detailed phytochemical, pharmacological and toxicological evaluations aimed at correlating its medicinal uses with its phytochemistry and pharmacological properties

    Phytophthora cinnamomi is an Oomycete considered one of the most widespread and destructive pathogens on the planet. Its geographic presence is cosmopolitan and the range of hosts is regarded as one of the largest. This pathogen causes enormous economic damages to important cultures worldwide; this has helped to attract the attention of the scientific community. It is the causal agent of chestnut ""ink"" disease (Castanea sativa Miller).The chestnut tree has different applications, besides chestnut and wood, it plays an important role in soil ecology and biodiversity. Therefore it is important to know the molecular mechanisms (genes and proteins) that are the basis of the Castanea sativa infestation process by Phytophthora cinnamomi and the nature of the pathogen-host interaction in order to establish strategies to combat and control this parasite.With bioinformatics tools, we were able to identify and characterize the Avr3a gene in genomic sequences of P. cinnamomi deposited in the Databases. This gene encodes a recognized 209 aminoacids, protein in the host cytoplasm where it triggers cell death

    The Effect of Counselling Intervention during Antenatal Care on the Knowledge and Attitude about Danger Signs in Pregnancy: A Cross-Sectional Study in Takalar Regency

    Objective: This study was to examine the effects of counselling delivered during antenatal care on the knowledge and attitudes of pregnant women about danger signs in pregnancy.Methods: This was a pre-experimental design using one group pre- and post-test only. This study was conducted in Takalar, specifically within Sanrobone Community Health Service working area. Takalar is located in South Sulawesi Province Indonesia and this area is coastal with the majority of people working as a fisherman. Participants of this study were pregnant women living in the villages which are included in the working area of Sanrobone Community Health Service.Results: The study shows that counselling improved knowledge and attitude of pregnant women about danger signs in pregnancy (p=0.011 and p=0.025, respectively). The number of pregnant women with good knowledge and positive attitude increased after the intervention (43.8% vs 93.8%, 62.5% vs 93.8%, respectively).Conclusions: In can be concluded that intervention by means of counselling can improve the knowledge and attitude of pregnant women about danger signs in pregnancy. Therefore, it is important to implement the counselling program delivered by health workers in Community Health Service in order to mitigate the risk of maternal mortality

    Brachylaena elliptica and B. ilicifolia are shrubs or small trees widely used as traditional medicines in southern Africa. There is need to evaluate the existence of any correlation between the medicinal uses, phytochemistry and pharmacological properties of the two species. Therefore, in this review, analyses of the ethnomedicinal uses, phytochemistry and biological activities of B. elliptica and B. ilicifolia are presented. Results of the current study are based on data derived from several online databases such as Scopus, Google Scholar, PubMed and Science Direct, and pre-electronic sources such as scientific publications, books, dissertations, book chapters and journal articles. The articles published between 1941 and 2020 were used in this study. The leaves and roots of B. elliptica and B. ilicifolia are mainly used as a mouthwash and ethnoveterinary medicines, and traditional medicines for backache, hysteria, ulcers of the mouth, diabetes, gastro-intestinal and respiratory problems. This study showed that sesquiterpene lactones, alkaloids, essential oils, flavonoids, flavonols, phenols, proanthocyanidins, saponins and tannins have been identified from aerial parts and leaves of B. elliptica and B. ilicifolia. The leaf extracts and compounds isolated from the species exhibited antibacterial, antidiabetic, antioxidant and cytotoxicity activities. There is a need for extensive phytochemical, pharmacological and toxicological studies of crude extracts and compounds isolated from B. elliptica and B. ilicifolia

    The Species Composition and Relative Abundance of Insect Pests of Stored Faba Bean in Farta District of South Gondar Zone of North Western Ethiopia

    Faba bean contributes to meet the basic dietary needs of millions of people and animals around the world, including Ethiopia, pertaining to its high protein, carbohydrate, dietary fibers and micronutrients. Nevertheless, insect pests have been reported to cause significant loss of it under traditional farmers’ storages. Accordingly, survey involving sampling of stored faba bean from a total of 162 farmers stores selected in nested design was conducted from 4, September 2019 – 15, May 2020 in six major faba bean producing peasant associations of Farta District. Accordingly, a total of 10 species of insect pests viz Acanthoscelides obtectus, Callosobruchus sp., Callosobruchus chinensis, Zabrotes subfasciatus, Callosobruchus muculutus, Bruchus sp. and Bruchidius sp. were recorded from stored faba bean of the study area. 90% of which was belonging to order Coleoptera with in two families i.e., Bruchidae and Nitidulidae, while one species (10%) was from order Psocoptera of the family Liposcelididae. In terms of their relative abundance the species were in the following order Acanthoscelides obtectus > Callosobruchus sp. > Callosobruchus chinensis > Zabrotes subfasciatus > Callosobruchus muculutus > Carpophilus sp. > C. dimidatus > Liposcelis sp. > Bruchus sp. > Bruchidius sp. Accordingly, the presence of great infestation of the faba bean grain by pests was suggested. As a result, the traditional practices used by farmers were ineffective for satisfactory protection of the stored faba bean grains. Therefore, designing effective management strategies against insect pests of stored faba bean in the study area is urgently needed

    Breast cancer affect almost 1 in 8 women and it is highest in developed and developing countries. There are many drugs exist for the treatment of breast cancer, but still the incidence of mortality and morbidity are high among all cancer types in most countries. Even though the conventional therapies play a major role in the management of breast cancer, its complications are obvious and unavoidable. The newer targeted drug therapy came in place to reduce complications in some extent, but not fully. Hence, a review was aimed to analyse the efficacy and safety of newer anticancer drugs that approved for the treatment of breast cancer by US-FDA from 2017 to 2019. The Olaparib, Talazoparib, and Ribociclib are the newly approved drugs for the treatment of breast cancer during this review period. Among these new drugs, Olaparib and Talazoparib alone or in combination with other anticancer drugs considered as safe and efficacious. Patients with Olaparib or Talazoparib as monotherapy have median progression-free survival of 2.8 to 8.6 months longer and has 42-46% lower risk of death (
