The targeted population for the study was the anti-measles medicinal herbs sellers. A three-stage random sampling technique was used to sample 120 marketers. Descriptive statistics, Concentration ratio (CR) analysis, Gini coefficient, Lorenz curve, marketing margin, and efficiency were the analytical tools employed for the study. The study shows that the majority of medicinal plant sellers were female (95%) with an average age of 48 years and were married (61.67%). About 53% had no formal education. The average year of market experience was 14 years and they are mostly traditional health practitioners (50.98%). It was found that the CR for the sellers was 26.02% and the estimated Gini coefficient was 0.486. The market margin per unit was ₦49.09 and the net market margin was ₦19.18. The efficiency of marketing was estimated at 61.22%. Since the market is efficient, anti-measles plants marketers should therefore adopt strategies to meet up with the international market standard. Government policies should also be directed towards improving indigenous markets by providing market facilities to reduce costs and improve their profit

The study examined the factors influencing adoption of climate smart agricultural practices among maize farmers in Ondo State, Nigeria. A Multi-stage sampling procedure was used to randomly select one hundred respondents for the study. Primary data were collected from the respondents with aid of a structured questionnaire and analysed using descriptive statistics and probit regression model. The results of this study showed that crop diversification was the most adopted climate smart agricultural practice by the respondents and adoption of Climate Smart Agricultural practices is still very low among the respondents. Result of probit regression revealed that marital status, access to extension services, farming experience, membership of farmers’ association and access to credit had a positive influence on adoption of climate smart agricultural practices while age, farm size and total income had a negative influence. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that government should develop suitable policies that will encourage farmers especially rural farmers to adopt and utilize Climate Smart Agricultural Practices (CSAP). Equally, the study also recommended government should be geared towards supporting improved extension services, providing on-farm demonstration training, and disseminating information about climate smart agricultural practices and provide credit facilities through the Agricultural Credit Guarantee Scheme Fund and bank credit to farmers in order to enhance adoption

Poverty is a global phenomenon, which affects continents, nations and people differently. It afflicts people in various depths and levels, at different times and phases of existence. The purpose of this study is to propose a conceptual framework that will investigate the effect of poverty on socioeconomic development. However, the nature and existence of this relationship are found to be mixed and inconclusive (i.e., positive and negative relationship between the study variables). These have prompted scholars, experts, and authorities to re-examine the relationship between effect of poverty and socio-economic development. This study addresses the research deficit and proposes a conceptual framework to measure the effects of poverty on socio-economic development, which could be used by government and non-governmental organizations. Furthermore, a recommendation for future research in this area also suggested.&nbsp

The market value increased from 2008 to 2009 by 0.33%, declined in 2010 by 4.93% increased from 2011 to 2013 by 11.75% and decreased from 2016 to 2018 by 14.59%. A policy implication with respect to this finding is that the study confirmed that Nigeria’s economy through the manufacturing sector is growing gradually. IMPACT OF FDI ON EXCHANGE RATE IN NIGERIA: A COMBINED COINTEGRATION APPROACH

    Get PDF
This study examined the long-run nexus between foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows and exchange rate (EXC) in Nigeria using the Gregory-Hansen, and Bayer-Hanck cointegration approaches from 1980M01 to 2019M12. The result showed that there is presence of long-run association between FDI and exchange rate in Nigeria. The Dynamic Ordinary Least Square (DOLS) technique was employed to establish the impact of FDI on the exchange rate. A negative nexus was found between the two variables. This implies that an increase in FDI brings about an appreciation of the Naira and vice versa. The study recommended that the Nigerian Government should strive to engage in activities that will minimise the outward leakages of Naira by attracting foreign investors into businesses, primarily in the oil sector. This action could lead to massive dollar injection, like setting oil refineries against crude oil extraction and exportation, which gives lesser USD inflows into the economy

The focal point of this paper is to bench mark ICTs in teaching and learning word processing. The paper is aimed at determining the ICT skills possessed by word processing teachers and students relevant to entrepreneurial and economic sustainability, the emerging strategies to enhance students-teachers participation in ICT and thus, bridge the gap between word processing learning and economic sustainability. To achieve the objective of the study, primary data were collected by means of questionnaire administered to students and teachers in the various schools in Birnin Kebbi. The study explores the linkages among four constructs; ICT skills were measured on the basis of level of individual hardware access, teaching facilities and curriculums, informational literacy and creativity and innovation. Descriptive (mean and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (regression analysis) were used to analyze the data collected. The emerging initiatives determined were agreed upon as enhancement initiatives as well as benefits accruable to students – teachers that embrace ICT. It was recommended that State governors and stakeholders should establish ICT skill groups to sensitize learners on the benefits of entrepreneurial and economic sustainability prowess

    Get PDF
The study examined the effect of oil price and oil production on economic growth in Nigeria over the period 1989-2020. Applying the Augmented Dickey Fuller test, the study found mixed order of integration among the variables, thereby warranting the application of the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. The results of the ARDL bounds test indicated the presence of cointegration among the variables.  The estimates of the ARDL model revealed that there is a positive influence of oil price on economic growth both in the long run and short run. As oil price increases, real GDP increases both in the short-run and in the long-run. Regarding the effects of oil production, the result showed a negative effect on real GDP in the short run, while the long-run effect is statistically insignificant. The study recommends amongst others that, the NNPC should explore more efficient means of oil production to avert the current negative short-run effect on Nigeria’s real GDP

The article examined the socio-economic effect of community-based natural resources management programme on poverty status among fishing households in the riverine areas of Ondo State, Nigeria. One hundred and twenty respondents were selected using a multi-stage sampling procedure. Data were collected from the respondents and analysed using a combination of descriptive statistics, Foster-Greer-Thorbecke (FGT) poverty measure, and probit regression model. Results of the descriptive statistics revealed that majority of the fish farmers are females and are in their economically active age, with an average household size of 6 and 7 for participants and non-participants respectively. FGT results showed that 35% of the participants and 47% of the non-participants respectively fell below the poverty line. Participants needed 10% of the poverty line to get out of poverty while the non-participants needed 15% of the poverty line to get out of poverty. The results of probit regression model revealed that household size, years of education, share of farm income, access to credit and participation in the community-based natural resources programme are the determinants of poverty among the respondents. The study recommended that Government should encourage the non-participants to participate in the community-based natural resource management programme and also introduce policies that facilitate increased level of education, increased access to credit facilities are essential to help reducing poverty among fishing households in the study area
