AI and the Inclusion of Deaf People in Brazil: A Qualitative Study
This study investigated the perceptions of Deaf users of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) regarding artificial intelligence (AI), through online interviews with 12 participants of different ages, educational backgrounds, and occupations. A qualitative methodology was applied, based on Bardin’s (2011) content analysis, which enabled the identification of meaning patterns in participants’ responses. The results highlighted five main themes: lack of knowledge, mistaken associations, practical uses, interest in learning, and resistance/fear. Lack of knowledge proved to be transversal, affecting youth, adults, and elderly participants, reflecting structural informational exclusion. Mistaken associations showed how the absence of critical digital literacy in sign language leads to limited understandings of AI, often linked to already familiar technologies. Practical uses, mostly reported by teachers and university students, revealed AI’s potential as an educational mediator and a tool for autonomy. This study investigated the perceptions of Deaf users of Brazilian Sign Language Libras regarding artificial intelligence AI through online interviews with 12 participants of different ages educational backgrounds and occupations A qualitative methodology was applied based on Bardin s 2011 content analysis which enabled the identification of meaning patterns in participants responses The results highlighted five main themes lack of knowledge mistaken associations practical uses interest in learning and resistance fear Lack of knowledge proved to be transversal affecting youth adults and elderly participants reflecting structural informational exclusion Mistaken associations showed how the absence of critical digital literacy in sign language leads to limited understandings of AI often linked to already familiar technologies Practical uses mostly reported by teachers and university students revealed AI s potential as an educational mediator and a tool for autonomy The strong interest in learning demonstrated participants willingness to attend courses in Libras indicating a demand for public policies and critical training initiatives Finally resistance although minor reflected the influence of distorted media narratives on negative perceptions of AI It is concluded that the inclusion of the Deaf community in the age of AI requires linguistic equity access policies and accessible digital environments in order to transform curiosity into empowerment and break the cycle of exclusio
Harmful Effect of Smartphone in Students life
The pervasive integration of smartphones into student life presents a significant dichotomy, offering tools for learning while simultaneously introducing substantial detrimental effects on academic performance, psychological health, and social well-being. This paper explores the core harmful impacts stemming from excessive and non-academic smartphone use among students. The primary negative effect is academic distraction, where constant notifications, social media, and online entertainment significantly interrupt concentration during study and class time, leading to reduced productivity, lower engagement, and compromised learning outcomes. Furthermore, extensive smartphone use is strongly linked to sleep disruption, as the blue light emission and late-night use interfere with melatonin production and sleep cycles, resulting in daytime fatigue, irritability, and diminished cognitive function. The risk of smartphone addiction is a growing concern, manifesting as compulsive checking, withdrawal symptoms, and neglect of responsibilities, which exacerbates both academic failure and mental health issues. Psychologically, overuse is associated with heightened levels of anxiety, depression, and stress, often fueled by social comparison and cyberbullying on social media platforms. Finally, students exhibit diminished social skills due to a preference for virtual over face-to-face interaction, alongside potential physical health issues like eye strain, poor posture, and sedentary behavior. In conclusion, while smartphones possess educational utility, their misuse constitutes a major impediment to the overall development and academic success of students, necessitating strategies for self-regulation and digital well-being
The Effectiveness of Using Mathematical Games in Learning Centers in Improving Number Mastery among Preschool Students
The teaching approach using mathematical games is gaining more attention as an innovative method to improve the learning of preschool students. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of math games implemented in learning centers in improving number mastery among preschool students. This study involved 10 students selected from a population of 25 in a preschool class in Putrajaya. Instruments such as pre- and post-tests are used to find out the level of student achievement, in addition to observation and interviews to get an in-depth view of the effects of using games. The results of the study found that after this intervention program was carried out, there was a significant increase in understanding and mastering the concept of numbers. Mathematical games not only help improve cognitive performance, but also foster students’ motivation, interest, and enjoyment in learning. Students who are exposed to this method are more confident and enthusiastic about engaging in activities related to Early Mathematics. This study also identified important factors such as the teacher’s role as a facilitator, the compatibility of the game with the student’s level of development, and consistent implementation to guarantee the effectiveness of this approach. Despite constraints such as limited time in formal learning sessions, math games prove to be an effective pedagogical tool. Therefore, the study suggests that this approach be expanded with the support of teacher training and the provision of sufficient learning materials
Scorsese, pop art, and hyperrealism
We propose an investigation of celebrated filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s oeuvre through the lens of painting and avant-garde. More specifically, we are interested in tracing connections between his work in the sixties and the Pop Art and Hyperrealism (or Nouveau Realism) movements from the period. We intend to demonstrate how many of the criticisms directed towards the director have also been pointed at these artistic movements. Therefore, we aim to understand the reasons for such by summarizing a brief history of the closeup — or more precisely, a few of the theorizations written about the technique. Lastly, we try to clarify some confusion that erupts from the use of “hyperrealism” as a category from contemporary scholars. We propose an investigation of celebrated filmmaker Martin Scorsese’s oeuvre through the lens of painting and avant-garde. Roman Epistles as a Genre Form in J. Brodskys Poetry
In the literature of ancient Rome the emergence of the epistolary genre was due to the widespread spread of epistolary creativity during the period of the end of the era of civil wars and the formation of the empire Epistola became the only means of communication and obtaining information in the giant Mediterranean power whose territories were located on three continents The letters which initially had a purely private character acquired information content socio-political and philosophical content the value of a public historical document and finally the format of a propaganda leaflet during Cicero s lifetime Poets of the Golden Age actively used the wide possibilities of the epistolary genre Horace creates an entire book of Epistles filling it with a wide variety of content from philosophy and didactics to irony and ridicule Ovid continues the line of love outpourings in the book Heroids creating in the spirit of rhetorical exercises the messages of mythological heroines to their lovers who left them Joseph Brodsky often worked not only with ancient plots and motifs which are described by Western and domestic literary scholars but also with forms genres poetic meters strophe mainly of Roman literature which was more accessible to him for ideological reasons The Roman Empire as a political construct seemed more understandable to the poet due to its proximity to Russia and the United States Solving as it seemed to him abstract poetic problems he in his own way entered into competition with the poets of the golden age and at the same time answered the pressing questions of our time The actualization of the ancient genre of epistles in Brodsky s poetry will be the subject of discussion in this article The best examples of the epistolary genre are Ovid and Horace and their beloved teacher is Pushkin What is present here is not so much imitation and stylization but a direct dialogue that Brodsky living in the postmodern era conducts with mentors often resorting to direct quotation allusions stylization and also uses the method of reincarnation immersion in the era and cultur
