La basilique Saint- Irénée de Sirmium et sa nécropole (Édité par I. Message on the pot: Sgraffito pottery decoration and group identities in the medieval Balkans [abstract]

    Get PDF
In the class of medieval tableware, Byzantine sgraffito pottery holds a prominent place, due to its attractive, complex technique, and various elements which create endless series of decorative patterns. The intertwining of similar technical solutions and motifs of pottery from local workshops of the medieval Balkan states of Bulgaria and Serbia, both inheriting Byzantine culture, is evident in the period from the 13th to the 15th centuries. However, the decorative styles of locally produced glazed vessels somewhat differ, both from the Byzantine pottery of the previous (Middle Byzantine) and contemporary (Late Byzantine) periods

U potrazi za praistorijskim izvorima sirovina: preliminarni rezultati rekognosciranja Rudnika i okoline

    Get PDF
Godine 2021. Daljim istraživanjima biće provereni i drugi podaci, i nadamo se dobijeni novi, o eksploataciji različitih mineralnih sirovina tokom praistorije u rudničkoj oblasti

Wildlife as Landscape Proxy for Early Byzantine Caričin Grad (Justiniana Prima)

    No full text
Animal remains are essential evidence of a historical ecology that has emerged as a powerful perspective for understanding and reconstructing the landscapes of the past. Zooarchaeological research can provide a significant contribution to issues beyond the animal related economies in the Early Byzantine period, such as the environmental conditions and landscape usage. The Early Byzantine site of Caričin Grad is situated 30 km southwest of Leskovac, in southern Serbia. Excavations at the site have revealed the remains of an important Early Byzantine city, which has been identified as Justiniana Prima, founded in the 530s by Justinian I. In this paper, results of the analysis of wild mammal and bird remains from Caričin Grad are considered as proxies for the reconstruction of the Early Byzantine city- and landscape. Also, this micro-ecological study provides research questions about broader contexts of humananimal interactions in the northern parts of the Early Byzantine Empire

Monetary circulation in the mining area Territoria metallorum – case study of the Timacum Minus site

    Get PDF
Timacum Minus continued as an administrative center of the Territoria metallorum mining area from the middle of the 2nd century until its destruction around the middle of the 5th century. Ever since its foundation at the end of the 1st century an urban settlement had developed around the military fort. The numismatic finds from Timacum Minus fall into two categories: coins from a stratigraphic context and stray finds. By comparing the two categories we propose to test the relevance of stray coin finds analysis when made on its own, the value of stray coins as a sample, and the difference in the circulation of the two categories of finds. The end goal is to determine the influence of socio-economic circumstances on the monetary circulation in this specifically organized area, given the multiple roles of the military stationed in mining areas, who both defended and administered the Territoria metallorum

Crtice o međuregionalnim vezama Ugarske na primeru nalaza arpadovskog perioda u Vojvodini (kraj 10-11. vek)

    Get PDF

Recognising the Value of Historic Mortars: From a Database to an Exhibition”.

    Get PDF
A human hand is always woven into the building material, whether it only participated in the exploitation of the stone or shaped the earth into a block. However, archaeological excavations rarely detect building materials as valuable, being recorded only as unified elements that form an architectural context or mediums that carry an inscription or a trace of use. Mortar Design for Conservation - Danube Roman Frontier 2000 Years After - MoDeCo2000 is a project conducted as a connection between archaeometry and conservation science, exploring the Roman mortars through the intertwining of the desire to learn about the construction activities and lives of ancient people along the Danube in today’s Serbia and the goal of preparing new materials that will preserve the built remains of these activities for the future
