On how justified the term Bijelo Brdo culture is in medieval archaeology
The term "Bijelo Brdo culture" was introduced in the field of archaeology in the 1920s and refers to the archaeological remains from the period of
the formation and rise of the Hungarian state in the Carpathian Basin,
spanning from the 10th to the 12th century. However, this term has sparked a
controversy within medieval archaeology due to conflicting opinions among
experts regarding the interaction between the local post-Avar population and the settled Hungarian groups. In accordance with the specific development of
archaeological science, various interpretative frameworks have been established in Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Croatia and Serbia, often influenced by an ethnocentric approach and primarily based on the interpretation of finds from necropoles. Rather than solely criticizing earlier research practices in these countries, the focus of this paper is to present modern tendencies and provide a fresh perspective on the topics covered by the term "Bijelo Brdo culture.
Lifeline of the Frontier: The Road and Port Network and the Concept of Supply and Distribution in Moesia Superior
During the last decades, within Roman provincial
archaeology, great attention has been paid to supplying
the army. The concept of supply in Moesia Superior was
not studied thoroughly enough. In this sense, this paper
could represent an introduction to further study of
the supply and transport of goods and other products.
During the past few decades in Serbia, the question of
supplying Roman troops in Moesia was most studied by
Petar Petrović (Petrović 1980; Petrović 1983; Petrović
1991) and Viminacium research team (Ilić et al. 2011).Roads and rivers
Arheologija u Srbiji : Projekti Arheološkog instituta u 2020. godini
Arheologija u Srbiji: projekti Arheološkog instituta u 2020. godini predstavlja deseti
Two Iron Swords from the lower course of the South Morava
The paper analyses two iron swords that represent chance finds from the valley plains between
the present-day cities of Niš and Aleksinac, within the lower course of the South Morava river. Both
examples are well preserved double-edged swords utilised during two different periods. The first sword belongs to the collection of the Hometown Museum in Aleksinac. It was discovered during gravel extraction on the left bank of the South Morava river, between the villages of Lužane and Tešica. Without a doubt, the sword represents an early Celtic type, positioned into the LT B2/C1 period, based on existing analogies, or the end of the 4th and the beginning of the 3rd century BC. The other sword comes from the collection of the National Museum in Niš, where it was stored as a chance find from the village of Draževac. For years, the sword has been interpreted as a Late La Téne example. An audit analysis has shown that this sword, a long-term exhibition piece of the prehistoric collection, in fact, represents a solidly preserved Roman spatha. In conclusion, several military campaigns across the territory of the Central Balkans, along with their archaeological records, are analysed, in order to provide a comparison with the Celtic campaigns towards the southern Balkans in 279 BC, and provide a possible interpretation for the uncommon location of the sword
Roman amphitheatres, army and civilians on the Danube limes
This paper deals with the Roman amphitheatres on the Danube limes. Some buildings are archaeologically attested, while others are assumed according to the appearance of the terrain, epigraphic data and particular archaeological finds. Besides a few inscriptions, the location and construction of the amphitheatres will be discussed, which is important for understanding who built and used these buildings

Further on, the change is presented in the type of goods of the Roman origin that were imported before the conquest and how these changed after the arrival of the Romans.Proceedings of the 5th International Conference on Roman Danubian Provinces, Iasi, 5th-9th November 2019. - PHILIPPIKA : Altertumswissenschaftliche Abhandlungen Contributions to the Study of Ancient World Cultures, vol. 17
Chronology, economy, and technology of the Late Neolithic site of Jablanica (central Serbia)
Various socio-economic changes, including the introduction of metallurgy, mark
the long duration of the Vinča culture. For detailed studies of the transformations of the Vinča
societies, analyses of subsistence and economy must also be placed on the chronological
line. The small-sized excavations carried out in 2018 at the Late Neolithic site of Jablanica
(c. 5000–4700 BC) in central Serbia provided a faunal assemblage that enabled analyses of
animal exploitation patterns, bone technology and also provided the samples for radiocarbon
dating. The faunal remains show the predominance of domestic species, especially cattle.
The site also yielded approximately 90 artefacts produced from bone and antler, including
finished objects, preforms and manufacturing debris. Predominant raw materials were bones,
mainly long bones, metapodials and ribs, followed by red deer antlers. Also, one artefact from
Spondylus shell was found. Awls were the most frequent techno-type, and the typological
repertoire also included other pointed tools, scrapers and other tools. Several preforms (mainly
awls) and manufacture debris provided evidence of a working area or workshop within the
settlement. Absolute dates showed that the beginning of the Late Neolithic occupation at the
site of Jablanica could be equated with the relative depths of 4.5 meters at the type site of
Vinča – Belo Brdo, or the late Vinča Pločnik I (Vinča C) period, while the radiocarbon dates
associated with the end of the Late Neolithic occupation of the site can be correlated to layers
between 4.0 and 3.5 meters at the type site of Vinča, i.e., the Vinča Pločnik IIa
