Spiritual Equilibrium: Syaikh Abdurrauf Singkel’s Concept of Tazkiyat al-Nafs

The pursuit of worldly abundance and immersion in fleeting pleasures has quietly shaped the spirit of contemporary society, leading to a subtle yet profound imbalance within the human soul. By placing transitory possessions and temporal delights at the center of life's purpose, these tendencies have contributed to a deep spiritual estrangement. This study examines Syaikh Abdurrauf Singkel's concept of Tazkiyat al-nafs (soul purification) as a comprehensive spiritual framework for restoring harmony between the material and the spiritual. Drawing upon Singkel's Sufi teachings, this research explores how his methodology offers a pathway toward Insān kāmil (the perfect human)—a being who integrates worldly responsibilities with elevated spiritual consciousness. Employing a qualitative-descriptive approach through library research, the study analyzes Singkel's seminal works, including Tanbīh al-Mashyī, Mir'at al-Ṭullāb, Daqāiq al-Ḥurūf, and 'Umdat al-Muhtājīn. The findings reveal how classical Islamic spiritual disciplines—dhikr (remembrance of God), muhāsaba (self-reflection), murāqaba (divine vigilance), and tawakkal (trust in God)—serve as an enduring guide to addressing the restlessness born of excessive worldly attachment and the allure of transient joys, offering a balanced and timeless path toward inner peace in the modern age. Contribution: This study reintroduces Syaikh Abdurrauf Singkel’s concept of Tazkiyat al-nafs as a spiritual response to the prevailing pursuit of worldly abundance and immersion in fleeting pleasures, offering a practical Sufi framework rooted in Islamic tradition to guide individuals toward Insān kāmil in today’s consumer-oriented society

REDOX AND THERMODYNAMIC INVESTIGATION OF 2-HYDROXYETHYLETHYLENEDIAMINETRIACETATOIRON(III) REACTION WITH 2-MERCAPTOETHANOLIC ACID IN A BICARBONATE-BUFFERED ENVIRONMENT

The coordination chemistry of hexadentate ligands is compelling, as it provides both kinetic and thermodynamic stability to the coordinated complex, facilitating electron distribution while preserving structural integrity. In this study, the redox behavior of the reaction between 2-hydroxyethylethylenediaminetriacetatoiron(III) (HEI) and 2-mercaptoethanolic acid (MEA) was investigated spectrophotometrically in a bicarbonate-buffered environment. The reaction followed first-order kinetics with respect to [HEI] and [MEA], with a 2:2 molar ratio observed. The reaction rate was significantly affected by increases in the ionic strength and the dielectric constant of the medium. Ion catalysis was evident, and variations in pH had a significant effect on the redox pathway. Activation enthalpy and Gibbs free energy, as determined via the Eyring–Polanyi equation, indicate that the reaction required additional thermal energy to proceed. The formation of thiyl radicals facilitated the conversion of the mercapto compound to a disulfide. A Michaelis-Menten-type plot (MMTP) supported the absence of intermediate species participation, as indicated by a negative result, further corroborated by matching spectroscopic spectra of reacted and unreacted mixtures. The proposed mechanism offers insight into the potential anticancer activity of mercaptoethanolic acid

The Formation of Danantara: Between Efficiency and the Threat of Moral Hazard for State Investments

The establishment of Danantara as a state investment agency reflects Indonesia’s effort to enhance the efficiency of state asset management, yet it simultaneously raises significant legal and governance concerns regarding transparency and accountability. This study examines the legal risks inherent in the formation of Danantara, a state entity tasked with managing strategic SOE assets under Law No. 1/2025 and Government Regulation No. 10/2025. Employing a doctrinal legal method with a normative-prescriptive approach, it compares the regulatory frameworks of Danantara and Singapore’s Temasek Holdings. The analysis reveals significant vulnerabilities, including moral hazard, concentration of unchecked authority, and exclusion from the state finance regime. These structural flaws may undermine legal accountability and public oversight. Drawing on comparative legal insights, this paper proposes reforms to strengthen institutional independence, ensure transparent asset management, and restore checks and balances in sovereign investment governance. The findings contribute to the ongoing discourse on state capitalism and the legal architecture required to support it. Keywords: Danantara; State Investment; Good Governance; Transparency; Accountability; Moral Hazard

Jesus as a Wounded Woman: A Postcolonial Feminist Trauma Reading of Emanuel Garibay's Emmaus

This article uses Emanuel Garibay's painting "Emmaus" as the primary unit of analysis to construct a theological understanding of Jesus as a wounded woman within the framework of postcolonial feminist trauma theology. This research aims to examine how visual art can function as an alternative theological space to reimagine Christology in responding to the experiences of trauma and sexual violence experienced by women. Methodologically, this study uses Erwin Panofsky's three-stage art analysis—pre-iconography, iconography, and iconology—integrated with postcolonial feminist trauma hermeneutics. The study's findings reveal that the Emmaus painting depicts Jesus as a wounded female figure, where the wounded body serves as a symbol of trauma, resistance, and solidarity with marginalized women. This reading offers a novelty in the form of a Christological metaphor that extends theological reflection beyond the biblical text into the realm of theological aesthetics. This article contributes to the global discourse of trauma theology and feminist Christology by affirming visual art as a constructive medium for the articulation of recovery, the existence of the body, and the formation of a community of survivors of sexual violence

Reconstructing the Imago Dei in the Posthuman Era: An Eschatological Theology of Mediated Embodiment

This article examines the theological challenges posed by posthumanism to the anthropology of Christian theology, with a focus on the doctrine of imago Dei, the meaning of the body, and the eschatological horizons of the Christian faith. The unit of analysis in this study is a theological discourse on posthumanism—especially transhumanism and critical posthumanism—which is dialogued with systematic theology and reflection of Christian education. The purpose of this research is to reconstruct the understanding of the Imago Dei in the context of the posthuman era and to formulate a theological framework that can critically respond to technological narratives without compromising human dignity or Christian eschatological expectations. This research employs a qualitative method based on literature studies, utilizing a philosophical-theological hermeneutic approach, which enables a critical interpretation of classical and contemporary theological sources, as well as major works in the philosophy of posthumanism and the philosophy of technology. The study's findings reveal that posthumanism exposes the limitations of the substantive-rational imago Dei model and encourages the reconstruction of imago Dei as a relational-eschatological category rooted in communion with God, others, and creation. From this reconstruction was born the eschatological theological concept of the mediated body, which affirms that human existence is always mediated by technology, yet still directed toward its fullness in Christ, not to technological salvation. The primary contribution of this article lies in the formulation of an integrative theological framework for the dialogue between the Christian faith and posthumanism within the context of contemplative theology
