    Get PDF
This research study is aimed at comprehensively assessing the impact of a process change in revenue banking on financial performance of the Judiciary of Zambia and formulate strategies to address the constraints that impend high performance of the implemented revenue banking process The study employs a mixed-methods research approach and integrates data from financial reports and structured open-ended responses from various employees within the Judiciary as well as observed experiences. The research specifically focuses on three objectives: determining the process change made by the Judiciary in revenue banking; assessing financial performance of the Judiciary before a process change in revenue banking in 2016 and 2017 financial years, and after change in 2019, 2020 and 2021 financial years; and conducting a comparative analysis of financial performance of the Judiciary before and after a process change in revenue banking. The findings reveal a positive impact on financial performance of the Judiciary evidenced by improved actual revenue collection amounts that above budget estimates during the period after the process change unlike during the period prior to process change. The study goes beyond merely assessing the impact of the process change in revenue banking, it uncovers specific constrains to revenue optimization that come with the new revenue banking process and also makes contribution to the wider body of literature by providing a conceptual framework as an analytical lens which maps those involved and activities in the revenue collection process

Student suicides in private universities across Bangladesh have seen a troubling rise, with rates escalating significantly between 2020 and 2024. This trend highlights an urgent need to examine the factors contributing to this crisis within the unique socio-economic, academic, and cultural landscape of Bangladesh. The study aims to investigate the socio-economic, academic, and psychological factors contributing to the increase in student suicides at private universities in Bangladesh, particularly focusing on the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the heightened challenges faced by students nearing graduation. This research employs a qualitative analysis of secondary data sourced from national statistics, institutional records, and media reports covering the period from 2020 to 2024. Trends and patterns in student suicide cases were analyzed, emphasizing changes during the pandemic period to understand the crisis\u27s scope and contributing factors. The data reveal a significant 83% increase in reported student suicides, rising from 30 cases in 2020 to 55 cases in 2024. The most notable surge in cases occurred during the pandemic, coinciding with heightened stress due to lockdowns, financial hardships, social isolation, and academic disruptions. Key factors exacerbating psychological distress among students include academic pressure, financial burdens, mental health stigma, and inadequate institutional support systems. The data also show that male students accounted for approximately 60% of the cases, potentially reflecting cultural stigma around help-seeking behaviors. Additionally, third- and fourth-year students were disproportionately affected, likely due to the cumulative stress of approaching graduation and career uncertainties. This study emphasizes the urgent need for targeted interventions to support students’ mental health, including expanding mental health resources, enhancing financial aid programs, and addressing cultural stigma around mental health issues. By creating more inclusive and accessible mental health support systems, private universities and policymakers in Bangladesh can help mitigate this crisis and promote a healthier academic environment. This research offers critical insights into the complex factors influencing student suicides in Bangladesh, proposing actionable recommendations to foster student well-being

This research was both qualitative and quantitative in nature. A cross sectional study design was used. A sample of 80 respondents was used in which 80 questionnaires were developed and administered with a return rate of 93%. The study used purposive sampling. The study found that 87% of the firms did not have a board in existence and firms which had a board in existence disagreed to the assertion that there was efficient use of resources when a board was present. It was also disagreed that firms profit margins and earnings were better off when a board was present to oversee the operations of the firm. Regarding the effect of separation of powers between the shareholders and management on business performance. Get PDF
The study was aimed at studying the effects of changes in the Statutory Reserve Ratio Requirement on commercial banks profitability in Zambia between 2007 to 2017. Time series data, namely, monthly data was used throughout the 11-year study. The study included data from all Zambian commercial banks operating from 2007 to 2017. The study used EViews version 10, for data analysis. Statutory reserves and bank profitability in Zambia were studied using the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. This research sought to objectively determine how statutory reserves affect bank performance. Performance was measured by ROA. The study found an inverse relationship between statutory reserves and financial performance of commercial banks in Zambia.  Beyond statutory reserves, the research also considered the impact of other bank-specific variables on profitability. Specifically, it observed that inflation and open market operation balances exerted negative impact on the commercial banks\u27 performance. Additionally, the study unveiled an important aspect related to the time horizon for adjustment. The speed of adjustment from short-run dynamics to long-run equilibrium was estimated at approximately 62%. After changes in statutory reserves and other variables, Zambian banks tend to reach a long-term profitability equilibrium point. These findings affect Zambia\u27s banking industry and regulators. It emphasises the need to balance regulatory requirements like statutory reserves with commercial bank profitability. This research advances monetary economics and lays the groundwork for future research due to the changing financial industry and regulatory environment

    Get PDF
This study empirically examines the potential impact of religious composition on sexual violence on a global scale. A dataset of 120 countries, for which both religious distribution and rape per capita data are available, is used for analysis. Preliminary descriptive analyses reveal that nations with the highest rape per capita rates are predominantly Christian-majority, with an average Christian population of 83%. North America and Europe are home to 68% of these countries. Conversely, countries with the lowest per capita rates of rape show a significant presence of Muslim populations, averaging 36%. More than 60% of Asian countries with significant Buddhist, Hindu, and Muslim populations are categorized as low in terms of the prevalence of sexual violence per capita. Regression analysis indicates a statistically significant positive relationship between the percentage of the Christian population and the incidence of rapes per capita. Conversely, there appears to be an inverse relationship between Muslim population percentage and the occurrence of sexual violence. The examined dataset did not yield any evidence to support a relationship between the percentages of Hindu, Buddhist, Jewish, and other religious groups and the incidence of rapes per capita. These findings suggest that there are potential faith-related factors that play a role in sexual violence, highlighting the need for more research

The advancement of technology and the internet have increased social media platforms\u27 popularity in recent years. Intending to extend the social media healthcare information [SOHI] model, this study incorporates attitudes toward social media [ATTSM] to extend the model. The model was tested using SmartPLS in a quantitative study with 310 participants. The results reveal that performance expectancy of social media (PESM) has a positive and significant influence on ATTSM and satisfaction with social media (SATSM), respectively. The findings show that both ATTSM and SATSM are significantly impacted by social influence on social media (SISM). In addition, ATTSM and SATSM significantly affected the behavioural intention of social media (BISM). Furthermore, the outcome indicated that BISM has a major effect on how people use SOHI. By testing SOHI with the integration of ATTSM, it has been proven that attitude plays a critical role in users’ decisions to use social media for healthcare

Advertising has a high influence on the cultural environment of India and is one of the most vital sources of revenue that supports and motivates the vast majority of commercial media. It can even be said that advertising is the basic force that stands behind all the other operational media industries. We come across many advertisements while watching television on daily basis and if these advertisements are built on ethical grounds, they are beneficial to advertisers as well as its targeted audiences. However, there is a rising concern about some advertising companies that are using unethical content of advertising that has a harmful effect on the society. Descriptive research design and content analysis research technique has been used for the analysis of different television advertisements. This paper is based on both the secondary as well as primary data that has been collected through different books, published articles and advertisements telecasted on Indian television. The present paper is focused on the representation of women in Indian advertisements. How advertisements portray women on television through a very effective tool of media i.e., via a short duration of video content that put a great impression on people’s mind. The paper also focuses on how these advertisements reinforce stereotypical image of women through patriarchal norms and values. Women are often depicted in advertisements as objects of desires and such depiction often leads to violence against them. Advertisements depict the world from a masculine point of view, representing women as mere a sexual object. This kind of framing, what Laura Mulvey called the male gaze, encourages men viewers to see women as sexual objects and compels women to see themselves as objects of men’s desire
