The Impact of Monetary Policy on Interbank Market Rate: Evidence from the Nigerian Banking Industry
Get PDFInter-bank markets are among the most important in the financial system. They are the focus of central banks’ implementation of monetary policy and have a significant effect on the whole economy. Transactions in the inter-bank funds market provides signal of what obtains in the open credit market. However, apart from the rate of interest (cost of transaction) in the market that influences the tempo of activities, other determining factors are liquidity position of the banks, and change in the demand for foreign exchange which determines the frequency with which banks access the market for funds to cover their bids at the Autonomous Foreign Exchange Market (AFEM) or Wholesale Dutch Auction System (WDAS). The market rate on the other hand is influenced by a number of factors including monetary policy instruments such as: open market operations, reserve requirements, monetary policy rate and central banks standing facilities. The market rate is believed to determine the market liquidity and affects directly the amount of resources that commercial banks have at their disposal and which they are consequently willing to lend in the interbank market. It is therefore necessary to understand the factors behind the dynamics of the market rate. Loneliness may result from a lack of social connections. Intimacy and a sense of belonging are fundamental human desires. Interpersonal connections have several advantages. Loneliness has been perceived as a universal human experience since the dawn. Social connection is essential for everyone\u27s survival. People are innately social beings that rely on one another for assistance. Even though mental health issues and social isolation often coexist in young children, early isolation does not indicate worse mental health issues in the future. However, children with such issues and behaviors could find it difficult to handle the social difficulties they face as they advance through the early years of school. Humans are social animals, and when they don\u27t feel connected, they tend to get sadder, sicker, and more susceptible to developing depression and other mental health problems. Isolation is a frequent occurrence that become more prevalent during the COVID-19 global pandemic, having an adverse effect on people\u27s physical and mental health everywhere. Furthermore, according to the most recent data, there may be an increase in the prevalence of mental health problems among at-risk groups and persons who are vulnerable to them after the pandemic\u27s height. 6 Children and adolescents, the elderly, people who are unemployed or homeless, COVID-19 survivors, people with pre-existing psychiatric conditions, community workers, pregnant women, people who are physically or mentally disabled, migrants, refugees, and members of the LGBT community, as well as people who belong to racial or ethnic minorities, are among the vulnerable populations. In such a circumstance, it is inevitable that immigrant groups will progressively acquire cultural aspects of the host culture while retaining parts of their own. This illustrates the extent of their integration into a new community and the preservation of their distinct culture. Acculturation has been a social phenomenon for several migrant populations in India. The Rabaris were originally a nomadic tribe prominently inhabiting the regions of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Punjab in India. They were engaged in camel and cattle herding. The origin of Rabaris is often traced from Iran via Afghanistan and Baluchistan. It is believed that they migrated to India in the 4th century. The belief of Rabaris about their origin takes a mythological turn and reflects the actual impact of adaptation of cultural traits of Hinduism, which is inherent in their belief and overall culture. The Rabaris of Gavviyar Village in Surat are a small settled group engaged in pastoral pursuits. The paper examines the factors which assisted the flourishing guild system and also contemplates on the factors leading to the decline of trade guilds. Hoysala kings expanded the empire across South India and were able to dominate natural resources of the vast regions. The Medieval Karnataka economy under Hoysala kings exhibited affluence, prosperity, and wealth. Trade guilds and merchants guilds donated to social causes and were very popular with the general public,. Inscriptions give detailed information about the philanthropic role played by trade guilds. Rapid alteration of Political hegemonies diminished the support forms for medieval trade guilds. The political support provided by royal dynasties weakened over time. Hence, the backbone for flourishing trade contacts also destabilized and weakened. As medieval Karnataka witnessed far reaching political transformation after the fall of the Hoysala dynasty ,resultant trade guilds influence also diminished and their reliability turned towards new emerging power centre
