    Motorist Understanding of Pavement Centre Lines and their Effect on Driving Behaviour

    Human factors and more generally driver errors account for the largest number of road accidents. Driver errors are external human factors that can contribute to specific error types selected from slip, lapse, mistake and violation. Action and information retrieval errors are both examples of driver errors. The failure to interpret correctly an intended road marking’s message causes driver misunderstanding and lead to a driver error. Centre lines are examples of such markings and if misread or unrecognised may cause unintentional driver violations and unsafe driving. This study focused on the examining of driver understanding of road markings, and the influence of centre lines on their driving behaviour. This study determined that drivers had a much better understanding of the overtaking messages intended by road markings, than the directional flow message. Drivers demonstrated that they relied more on signs and other drivers to determine whether the road is a two-way or not. This study demonstrated that the presence of both centre lines and edge lines have a positive effect on a driver in handling and controlling of their vehicles’ position. It was postulated from this study that the absence of the edge lines has a more significant effect on a vehicle’s position than the absence of centre lines

    Asphaltic Concrete Pavement Strength and the Impact of Rainfall

    Studies have shown that moisture impacts on the strength of flexible pavement surface of asphaltic concrete. Several investigations and relevant researches treated the effect of subsurface and surface water sources, on the durability of flexible pavements. This study is focused on the surface water sources, as a result of precipitation (rainfall), on the surface of flexible pavements. To conduct this experiment, the considerations made include (i) the continuous exposure of the pavement surface to annual rainfall (ii) application of pavement exposure to moisture in the field. This study considered the amount of rainfall each day, as the duration (age) of pavement exposure to moisture (being under water during rainfall). For the purpose of this experiment, the Owerri to Onitsha about 90km of dual carriage way in south east of Nigeria, was considered. This is a flexible pavement that traverses through the rain forest belt, characterized with high amount of annual rainfall values. Flexible pavement specimens from this road were obtained, cleaned and immersed in water after weighing, to keep vital records of the necessary parameters, before further tests at 7days intervals. Values of strength obtained after days in water, that approximated to the appropriate field situation of exposure to rainfall, showed a consistent loss of strength, from the crushing strength results

    With globalization and increasing economy of India, Indian wine industry is growing at a CAGR of 20-25 percent and estimated to US$150 million. Uniformity in wine laws, new regulatory policies, tax incentive and increasing spending power of middle class widely spotting wine is a lifestyle drink and increased acceptability in India. The objective of this research paper is to highlight socio economic benefits from Indian winery for people living in the vicinity of wineries. To measure the socio-economic impact, the survey method was used to collect the data from two villages, Govardhan & Dindori from capital city of Indian wine, Nasik. More than 85% of wine production of India has concentrated in Maharashtra mostly in Nasik & Sangli. The research finding shows that Indian winery has significantly contributed in various fields like employability, education, safety & security, assets etc to poor people of this areas

    Students’ Perception towards Learning Platforms – A Comparative Analysis of Online and Offline Learning

    The purpose of this study is to find out college students perception towards the learning platforms and their priorities with regard to online learning as well as offline learning. Rapid developments in education technology have provided many new options of learning to students and thus made this research important to determine their preferences for the same. Moreover due to covid-19, the students have fresh experience of online learning which would make the comparison more relevant. The study makes comparison of online education and traditional way of education from the point of view of Post - Graduate students from M.COM, MBA, MA (economics), M.SC, and M.TECH respectively. To know their perception and preference, online questionnaire was constructed via Google form and data was collected from 100 respondents. 10 variables based on 5 point likert scale have been used to analyze the perception. These variables include Convenience, Flexibility, Teacher – student interaction, accessibility in terms of time and cost, Freedom in learning, Doubt clarity, Learning experience, Content analysis, Adaptability and performance evaluation. This preliminary analysis of students\u27 perception will determine whether there are statistically significant differences between online learning and offline learning, and preference for online learning technology between gender groups and between post graduate students from different educational qualifications and family income, along with investigating the reasons for their preference

    Comparative Effect of Grinded and Ungrinded Palm Kernel Shell on the Strength of Pavers

    Paving stones are increasing, being used by corporate bodies and individual for its functionalities and aesthetic value, the production of pavers over the years have been specifically carried out using stone dust which is relatively expensive and not readily affordable to the common man. This study was carried out to determine comparative effect of grinded and un-grinded palm kernel shell on the strength of pavers. Stone dust, river sand, grinded palm kernel shell, un-grinded palm kernel shell and cement were combine in different ratio namely,T1(4,0,0,0,l), T2(0,2,2,0,l), T3 (1,2,0,1,1), T4(1,1,2,0,l), T5(1,1,0,2,l), T6(0,2,l ,l,1) respectively to form six treatment with two replicates. The pavers were tested for weight and strength properties, T3 has the highest value of the mean weight while T1 has the lowest value. T3 (stone dust (1),river sand (2), un-grinded palm kernel shell (1) and 25kg of cement (1)), T1(stone dust (4) and 25kg of cement (1)).Also, the compressive strength results show that T3 also has the highest value of 127Mpa(Mega pascal) whileT6 has the lowest value of 33Mpa (Mega pascal). The data collected was subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) to determine the difference in the strength of the pavers. The analysis of variance shows that there is no significant difference between the compressive strength of the treatments. The colour of the paver shows that the paver produced with river sand and un-grinded palm kernel shell is brighter and stronger than others, it is then recommended that T3 can be used in the production of pavers because it is strong and can also withstand environmental stress

    Iraq is one of the countries that fluctuates in the climate greatly, as well as is characterized by a very hot summer, so the cold storage sector is very important in this country, especially medicine and medical supplies stores. The warehouse sector is one of the most important construction sectors. It includes many facilities, the most important of which are cold stores. After researching and investigating the necessary data in managing this type of project, it was found that there is a great shortage in that data, and this deficiency may be one of the reasons for the failure of this sector in Iraq. In order to evaluate the information and available data related to the management of cold store projects, a questionnaire was asked to take the opinion of engineers and specialists in this field. The questionnaire included several axes, and each axis included a group of questions. The questions were divided depending on their relationship to each other. The questions included gender, age, specialization, experience and the fact that the engineer previously worked in project management and other questions. This article proposes waterfall framework as project management framework for the studied case projects
