Training and Development Practices and Employees’ Performance in Selected Manufacturing Companies in Nigeria
Managing workforce diversity in manufacturing organisations has been a problem all over the world including Nigeria. Manufacturing organisations in Nigeria continue to experience occasional drop in performance due to employees’ apathy and non-challant attitudes as a result of high level of dissatisfaction caused by inadequate attention to training and development practices. This study assessed the relationships between training and development practices and employees’ performance in selected manufacturing companies in Nigeria. A cross sectional survey research design was employed, and out of the 1,568 copies of questionnaire that were administered proportionally in the selected manufacturing companies, 1,153 copies were retrieved and found useful. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics and the hypotheses were tested using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results of the findings show f-statistics of 223.717 and so, there is a significant relationship between training and development practices and employees’ performance among Nigerians working in the selected manufacturing companies. Also, f-statistics of 244.391 shows a significant relationship between training and development practices and employees’ performance among other nationals in the selected MNCs. The study concluded that there are significant relationships between training and development practices and employees’ performance in selected manufacturing MNCs in Nigeria
Qualitative Research Methods: A Critical Analysis
Creswell (2014) noted that qualitative research is an approach for exploring and understanding the meaning individuals or groups ascribe to a social or human problem. The article embodies a critical analysis of chapters one to twelve of Stake (2010). In chapter one, Qualitative research: How things work is seen as qualitative, is based on a comprehensive aim seeking to answer the questions why and how. It analyzes actions and interactions, taking into account the intentions of the actors. An analytic perspective on the interpretation of the Person as an instrument is the thrust of chapter two. Chapter three examines the experiential understanding: Most qualitative study is experiential, in this chapter stake (2010) discusses two common research approaches, qualitative and quantitative methods. Chapter four Stating the Problem: Questioning How This Thing Works. Chapter five deals with the Methods-Gatherings Data, while chapter six illuminates the Review of Literature: Zooming to See the Problem. In chapter seven, the author implores the evidence: Bolstering Judgment and Reconnoitering. Chapter eight propels Analysis and Synthesis: How Things Work. Chapter nine acts as a mirror that invites the researcher to examine their action research and Self-Evaluation: Finding our Own How our Place Works. Finally, in chapters ten to twelve, the author compels Storytelling: Illustrating How Things Work, Writing the Final Report: An Iterative Convergence, and Advocacy and Ethics: Making Things Work Better. This work is expected to guide future researchers in developing their research in qualitative research
Customer Satisfaction and Revisit Intention towards Fast Food Restaurants in Sri Lanka
This study aimed at examining factors that effect of food taste, food quality, service quality, perceived price, responsiveness, restaurant environment on customer satisfaction and revisit intention. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire survey of fast food restaurant customers in a selected metropolitan area from Colombo district and students from University of Sri Jayewardenepura. The data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 and R Studio 3.5.1 software. The study has found that food quality and perceived price are the important antecedents of restaurant customer satisfaction. Further, the results clearly showed a significant role of customer satisfaction on revisit intention and crucial impact of perceived price on customer satisfaction. In addition, revisit intention towards the fast food restaurant is directly influenced by food tastes. This study collected data from two selected groups; students from University of Sri Jayewardenepura and one metropolitan area, and data has analyzed further based on demographic characteristics further to confirm the results. Therefore, this study provides valuable insight to restaurant managers on attracting, retaining and satisfying their customers
A Study on the Effect of COVID-19 on the Lifestyle & Mindset of People after Lockdown in Gujarat State
This study aimed to research the immediate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on psychological state and quality of life among Gujarat resident’s aged ≥18 years. a web survey was distributed through a social media platform from May 19, 2020 to May 22, 2020. Respondents completed a validated questionnaire that assessed the indications of mindset impacts, social and family support, and mental health-related lifestyle changes. a complete of 150 respondents (87 males and 63 females) completed the study Around 26% of the respondents believe that the lockdown 4.0 should be lifted fully. 56% prefer to stay at home even after lockdown lifted fully. Very few 5% around prefer to travel after lockdown 4.0. When there was a lockdown curfew, people were having different kind of stress. Majority of the people were having stress of getting corona virus. Some respondents were having stress related to their loss of job or pay cut. People tried to stay positive and did prayer to come out of the stress during lockdown period. 51% of the respondents said that they would like to prefer to go to the different public places after 3 months of lockdown 4.0. Majority of the respondents are having a positive attitude towards their lifestyle after COVID -19. People before COVID- 19 were very much socialized and not that much caring for their body. Now, people after COVID – 19 are more aware about their immunity, health, lifestyle and mental health as well. Of course, there is a change in everyone’s lifestyle and thinking. And this will bring something positive. In conclusion, the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with mild stressful impact in our sample, even though the COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing
The Relationship between Fungal Growth Rate and Temperature and Humidity
In order to determine the relation among the three factors of wood fiber decomposition rate, mycelial elongation and moisture resistance, our team resorted to the Monod equation and the modified Logistic equation. Combing with the kinetic principle and the law of mass action, the equations between the decomposition rate of wood fiber, the elongation rate of mycelium and the moisture resistance were established. In the course of solving the model, we found that when the temperature ranges from 24℃ to 28℃ and the relative humidity from 60% to75%, the growth rate of fungi is the fastest
Wire EDM Parameters for Surface Roughness in Straight Gear Manufacturing: An Experimental Study
The gears are an essential component of any system. A gear is a spinning circular machine part with cut teeth, or inserted teeth (called cogs) in the case of a cogwheel or gearwheel, which mesh with another toothed part to convey torque. A gear is sometimes referred as a cog colloquially. Geared devices can adjust a power source\u27s speed, torque, and direction. To eliminate backlash, high precision is required while making gears. Wire cut EDM is a high-precision machining technology that may manufacture high-precision straight gear. The goal of this research is to use the WEDM Process on an EMS 45 to determine the surface roughness of the workpiece and to optimise the influence of current and wire speed on the surface roughness of the straight gear. Wire cut machining parameters employed were 4, 6, and 8 amperes of current and 9, 11, and 13 mm/min of wire speed. Wire has a diameter of 0.25 mm, and the cutting material is brass. It has been demonstrated that as current and wire speed increase, surface roughness decreases, and vice versa. As a result, reduced machine settings can be used to generate a smoother and better workpiece surface

India’s Top Company for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - An Empirical Study on Reliance Industries Limited (RIL)
Purpose: The present research aims to study Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expenditure of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL).Design / methodology / approach: The study is based on secondary data collected for Reliance Industries Limited for FY 2015-16 to 2019-20 from national CSR data portal, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India for the research work. Statistical measure like one sample T-Test and Pearsons Correlation has been used for analyzing the data.Findings: The study reveals that there has been a significant increase of Rs. 350.93 crore in actual CSR spent of RIL i.e. increase of 62.92% in FY 2019-20 over FY 2015-16. From the study it is also found that RILs Actual CSR Spending is more as compared to CSR Prescribed during FY 2016-17 to 2019-20 whereas it is same in FY 2015-16 and the CSR Ratio of RIL is as per the SEBIs regulation of 2% during FY 2015-16 to 2019-20
Sources and Ways of Controlling Manufacturing Industrial Waste in the Northern Ghana
Manufacturing waste forms part of industrial waste which is also rooted in solid waste. In Ghana, the ruling government has a flagship project known as one district one factory (1d1f). Most of these factories that are established and yet to be established are manufacturing industries. No doubt that these industries will generate lots of waste which must be managed properly. Also, the more factories are built, the more waste will be created. The main purpose of this paper is to identify and try to control the exact sources of waste generation on the production line of manufacturing industries. The method used was literature review, and interview of industry players. From the literature review, it was found that several sources of waste have been established such as municipal sources of waste, medical/clinical sources, agriculture sources, end-of-life-of automobile, industrial sources of waste, construction/demolition sources, and electronic sources of waste (eschooltoday, 2020, amauomo and baird, 2016) whiles the results from the interview session revealed that the exact point on the manufacturing line of the industry, which can be termed as sources of waste are; at the beginning, and sometimes the end of the production line. Observation on the production line also confirmed the perception of the factory hands, that at the beginning, and the end. Once the sources are identified, it is possible to control it. In conclusion, it was revealed that factory hands do not make critical observation on the production line. They agreed that if the sources are identified and controlled, it will reduce the cost of production which will increase their profit margin. It is therefore recommended that manufacturing industries should take much interest in identifying the sources of waste creation on their production lines. Also, they should take measurement seriously when feeding raw materials into the production line
Use of Gas Emulsion in Blasting Project for Clearing in a Copper Mine in Southern Peru
The gasifiable emulsion is a technological and productive response to the need to reduce operating costs in the mining project, among the improvements with respect to ANFO are a higher detonation velocity (VOD), better fragmentation and reduction of nitrous fumes. In the test mining operation, a commercial explosive mixture called "Q "73 (70% emulsion and 30% ANFO) is used, where the ANFO is composed of 97% ammonium nitrate and 3% diesel, and the explosive mixture "Q "82 (80% emulsion and 20% ANFO) is also used, 7 blasting processes were carried out with a diameter of 12.25 in. in a waste area, the most characteristic rocks found in the blasting project in the copper mine in southern Peru are Toba Cristal (TC), Andesite Basaltic Propylitic (BA-PRO), Andesite Basaltic Argillic (BA-ARG). The results obtained show a reduction of the Power Factor by 1.32%, with respect to the commercial mixtures "Q "73 and "Q "82 an optimum increase in the detonation velocity of 9.92% and 0.59% was obtained, also the high-resolution images of the fumes after blasting indicate a low presence of orange fumes taking a great relevance in the mining sector on a large scale, achieving better results in the blasting phase
