Development of a Tool for Team Formation in Engineering Education
Efficient team formation presents challenges both for the industry and the academia, especially among first year students. In academia, the difficulty is due to a lack of familiarity between instructors and new students at the beginning of each semester while in the industry, the issue is the incomplete picture of new employee’s personality by the supervisors. The quality of the team greatly affects both the team member experience as well as the outcome of assigned projects. There is a strong need to create a tool or a program that allows instructors and supervisors to create effective teams with evenly distributed skills amongst the teams in a timely fashion. Studies show that the balance of skills, rather than the presence of highly skilled individuals, leads to successful teams. The ultimate goal is to create a tool that will give teams the opportunity to operate at their maximum potential.
This paper focuses on the creation of teams for first year students of engineering. The outcome is based on the results of a project assigned to a team of second year engineering students. The choice of second year students was dictated by the need to have students who had already experienced the adverse effects of malfunctioning teams during their previous projects. The goal of the project was to design a software and user interface for a tool that instructors could use to create optimal project teams in an efficient manner
Utilization of EPS Beats and Polypropylene Fiber in Controlled Low Strength Material
Controlled low-strength material (CLSM) is a self-levelling cementitious material. It is not concrete nor soil-cement, however, it possesses properties similar to both. CLSM is widely used as a replacement for soil-cement material in many geotechnical applications such as structural backfill, pipeline beddings, void fill, pavement bases and bridge approaches. This paper study potential possibility of polypropylene fiber in CLSM. Harden and fresh properties compressive strength , flowability and density for the proposed CLSM were investigated. This CLSM mix design with different percentage of polypropylene fiber and pond ash, cement and water. EPS beats and polypropylene add 0 %, 0.5%, 1.0% and 1.5% of total weight is added in CLSM MIx. Results show that the CLSM incorporating EPS beats and polypropylene satisfies compressive strength requirement as per the requirements of ACI committee 229. polypropylene decreases the flowability of CLSM mix and at the same tine by adding EPS beats the density of CLSM mix are reduce which become lightweight CLSM mix. from this it can conclude that polypropylene fibers is less effective in CLSM mix and EPS beats make CLSM mix lightweight which create lightweight CLSM mix applicable for filling application
Comparison between the British and American Methods in Designing Concrete using Local Aggregate in the City of Mosul Preparation
This research included an applied study for the design of concrete mixtures by following the method of the American Concrete Institute (ACl) and the method of the Building Research Center in England (British method) to restriction which of these two methods is more suitable for use and application in the design of concrete mixtures when using local aggregate (gravel and sand taken from the area Badush and Aski Mosul), where job mixes were made using the mixing ratios obtained from these two methods, and a comparative study was made for the properties concrete resulting in the soft state (workability )and the hardened state (compressive resistance), and the results proved the following:
A- In general, when discussing the results according to mixing ratios and workability levels, the method of the Building Research Center in England (the British method) gave higher results than the results obtained by the American Concrete Institute method (the American method) when using the above local aggregate whereas results shown increase in (workability) and Compressive strength. This increase amounts to the percentages shown in the table below:
Compressive strength
(%)
Slump test
(%)
workability
10.48
14.40
Precipitation = 10-8 cm
12.10
21.40
Precipitation = 18-15 cm
Table (1-1)
B- It is possible to make another comparison, when fixing the proportion of water/cement, it turns out that the method of the Building Research Center in England (the British method) gives higher workability than the method of the American Concrete Institute (the American method) and for the same proportion of cement/ water, the American method gives Higher compressive strength than the British method.
C- The building research center method is a more practical and applicable method more than the American Concrete Institute method because it takes the type of cement, the type of aggregate and other properties of the aggregate (especially particle shape) into consideration more than it is in the American Concrete Institute (ACI) method. The above results were relied upon in designing the appropriate concrete mixture in the Mosul Water Project - Right Coast
Electromagnetic Beam Causing Instability
In laser, a perturbation in the laser intensity has a tendency to grow. The regions where of intensity is higher, hence the electron density falls and gives rise to a higher refractive index. This region attracts power from neighborhood causing growth of intensity perturbation. Hence we get filaments
An Investigation into the Financial Performance of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Nanded, Maharashtra
Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are an indispensable part of the Indian economy. In terms of Gross Value Added (GVA) and Gross Domestic Product (GDP), MSMEs accounted for about 33% and 31% of India\u27s GVA and GDP, respectively, in the year 2019-20. Unlike large enterprises that are concentrated in the metros, MSMEs are spread across smaller and larger rural as well as urban centres of India. They are also the biggest source of employment, especially in rural India, and contribute to the rural development and industrialisation. MSMEs also act as a great social bridge as smaller enterprises are owned by socially backward classes and women than are larger enterprises. For these reasons and more, the India government has always promoted the growth and development of MSMEs through policy initiatives, technology up gradation, and via other means. Consequently, MSMEs have also grown in multi-folds in the past decades in terms of the number of enterprises in operation and the collective revenue of the sector. Several challenges affect the growth of MSMEs, however. One of these is the limited academic studies into the financial performance of MSMEs, probably due to the unavailability of adequate data. The present research attempts to fill this gap by conducting a financial performance evaluation of 51 sample MSMEs based in the district of Nanded, Maharashtra. The research utilizes Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to compare the financial performance of sample MSMEs selectively using the suitable variables identified by Arasu et al. (2021). Findings suggest sharp differences in the financial performance of sample units. Inefficient units are suggested to improve their return on asset, return on capital employed, and net profit margin
The Influence of Different Management Modes on the Potential of Moso Bamboo Carbon Sink Based on Survey Data of Yuhang and Lin’an
Bamboo forest carbon sequestration has strong development potential in coping with global climate change. The management of Moso bamboo forest can exert its own strong carbon sequestration ability and promote farmers\u27 income, which is the fundamental point of bamboo industry development and can integrate ecological, economic, and social benefits. In this study, two Moso bamboo forests with different management modes in Lin\u27an and Yuhang of Zhejiang Province were used as research points. Using the system dynamic thinking method, a dynamic system model was constructed to simulate the growth process of Moso bamboo and its carbon sink supply. Then comparative analysis was made of its carbon sink supply potential. It is easy for bamboo forest managers to change management measures according to their requirements and create a dynamic balance between ecology and economics when determining the optimum management mode for the bamboo forest under the supply potential of carbon sink. According to the study results, the carbon sink supply under the intensive model is the most ideal, while the carbon sink supply under the extensive peach blossom model is the least ideal
Research on the Development of Rural Collective Economy: The Case of Chun\u27an
The implementation of the rural revitalization strategy in the new era is the overall starting point for doing a good job in the "three rural" work. Research on the development of the rural collective economy has promoted the overall upgrading of agriculture, the overall progress of the countryside, and the overall development of farmers. It has promoted the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy. It is also the focus and difficulty of rural grassroots construction. This paper analyzes the development status of the rural collective economy in Mochuan Village, Chun\u27an County, uses the operating income data of Mochuan Village from 2014 to 2019, uses statistical analysis methods to explore the existing problems and their causes, and manages different subjects and agricultural production from rural society From the two perspectives of the elements, the countermeasures for the development of the rural collective economy are proposed
Safety and Health in Mining
In the history of the mining sector, in its beginnings it faced very high levels of risks both safety and health.
The data are limited to serious accidents, and these are mainly associated with falls from land, transport and machinery.
Analysis of these data suggests that the leading causes of death tend to be the same as those of serious injuries, while disasters have a different profile. Over the past decade, mining disasters have been associated with explosions due to flammable gases, a fire on a conveyor belt, a flood of mud and water, and rock outbursts.
Mandatory compliance with a company\u27s safety, health and environmental regulations is a minimum and can be significantly improved by adding a long-term management planning and implementation process with a deeper cultural shift towards continuous improvement in safety and quality. Note that the purpose of integrating health and safety into other management systems is the need for health and safety management to be central, rather than an organizational objective
