How COVID-19 has Permanently Changed Consumer Behaviour and the Consequent Developments in the Delivery of Goods and Services
Get PDFAs we see the world slowly limping back on its feet and returning to normal, one cannot ignore the change in consumer behaviour in almost all areas specifically in our buying behaviour and consumption pattern of groceries, retail goods, health and healthcare products, travel and tourism, entertainment, dining and food delivery, work and education and learning. These changes in almost all areas of life will have important implications to providers and will help them prepare for the new normal. While there has been a strong shift towards online and digital modes of delivery of almost all products and services it has also been noticed that while it has been seen to be beneficial to certain areas in certain areas outcomes have not been very positive especially in learning, remote work etc. Of course areas such as tourism, aviation, public transportation, suffered tremendously due to the nature of their business. While all these are slowly showing a comeback after the difficult period of two years, consumer behaviour has changed forever post Covid. This paper aims to study the changes in consumer behaviour and will try to determine if these changes will remain. As we know behavioural changes are not permanent and their stickiness will depend on satisfaction of the new experiences and also on the number of people who have access to these new delivery methods

Artificial Groundwater Recharge Zones Mapping using Remote Sensing and GIS for Sub-Watersheds of Krishna Basin
Get PDFThe exacerbated exploitation of groundwater resources has led to an alarming decrease in groundwater levels. It is necessary to identify areas that allow for efficient recharge so that implementation of artificial groundwater recharge can be conducted in such areas with better efficiency. This study maps zones with their varying degrees of affinity for groundwater recharge in two of the sub-watersheds of the Krishna Basin.The factors affecting the potential of groundwater recharge were determined and then thematic maps for each factor were generated in ArcGIS 10.8. Remote sensing data from sources like ‘Bhuvan’ and ‘Bhukosh’ were used for the generation of the thematic layers. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was used while deciding the relative and subsequently overall importance of each layer. Iron Ore Tailings as Partial Replacement for Fine Aggregate in Concrete Production – Review

A Deep Learning based Model for Fruit Grading using DenseNet
Get PDFDetecting the rotten fruits become significant in the agricultural industry. Usually, the classification of fresh and rotten fruits is carried by humans is not effectual for the fruit farmers. Human beings will become tired after doing the same task multiple times, but machines do not. Thus, this paper proposes an approach to reduce human efforts, reduce the cost and time for production by identifying the defects in the fruits in the agricultural industry. If we do not detect those defects, those defected fruits may contaminate good fruits. Hence, we proposed a model to avoid the spread of rottenness. The proposed model classifies the fresh fruits and rotten fruits from the input fruit images. For this work, we have used three types of fruits, such as apple, banana, and oranges. A Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is used for extracting the features from input fruit images, and Softmax is used to classify the images into fresh and rotten fruits. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated on a dataset that is downloaded from Kaggle and produces an accuracy of 97.82%. The results showed that the proposed CNN model can effectively classify the fresh fruits and rotten fruits
Automation in Data Engineering: Implementing GitHub Actions for CI/CD in ETL Workflows
No full textAutomation in data engineering, particularly within ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) workflows, has become critical as data volumes increase. This paper demonstrates the use of GitHub Actions to implement Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) in ETL workflows, significantly improving performance and efficiency. Our research focuses on automating ETL stages—data extraction, transformation, and loading—using GitHub Actions to reduce errors, enhance deployment success rates, and minimize manual interventions. Results show a 33.33% reduction in average execution time, a 58.33% decrease in error rates, and an 18.75% increase in successful deployment rates. Additionally, automation led to a total time savings of 23 hours across ETL tasks. These findings highlight the importance of CI/CD in modern data engineering, emphasizing the role of automation in optimizing ETL workflows for greater reliability and efficiency
Assessing Impact of New Education Policy 2020 on Institutional Factors of Work Life Balance among Faculty in HEIs
No full textGovernment of India, in its higher education policy 2020 handbook has mentioned that despite various improvements in the status of the academic profession, faculty motivation in terms of teaching, research, and service in Heis remains far lower than the desired level. The study deals with five institutional factors of work life balance of faculty members in Hei’s with the aim to access the impact of new education policy 2020 on them. Data from 104 faculty members was collected through structured questionnaire and was evaluated on five subscales – recruitment & career progression, work environment, job autonomy, performance analysis and rewards & recognitions. The reliability of the scale was tested using cronbach alpha. To access the outcome and relationship of these factors least square method was used which indicated that these factors play a significant role in job engagement, satisfaction and motivation of faculty members which in tern effect positively on their work life balance. These factors lie behind low faculty motivation levels and must be addressed to ensure that each faculty member is happy, enthusiastic, engaged, and motivated towards advancing her/his students, institution, and profession
The Impact of Materials Management on Profitability of Manufacturing Companies in Ethiopia: The Case of Walia Steel Industry PLC
Get PDFRecently, in the dramatically growing digital world, the management of materials plays a critical role in the profitability of manufacturing companies. This study focuses on the impact of materials management on profitability of manufacturing companies in Ethiopia with a particular reference to Walia Steel Industry PLC. The main objective of the study is to detect the problems of materials management that can result in achieving organizational profitability if corrected properly. Relevant data was gathered through self-administered structured questionnaires and open-ended questions and analysis was made based on primary data generated via five point Likert scale using SPSS version 23. A cross-sectional data model was used in the study. The study adopted both explanatory and descriptive research designs in integration with commonly used mixed research methods. Validity and reliability of the study was also tested using SPSS V-23. The findings revealed that there was positive and significant association between effective materials management dimensions and firm’s profitability which was supported by interdepartmental collaboration among materials related departments such as inventory, procurement and storage managements. The main problems faced in materials management of the selected steel industry includes the shortage of raw materials due to foreign currency problem and COVID-19 pandemic, shortage of skilled personnel, unsteady power supply, weak materials management practices due to weak interdepartmental coordination of the firm. The role and benefits of materials management dimensions should be examined and outlined for further investigation. Recommendations were made for the focal firm to make the materials management system to be computerized, to arrange training programs, to hire skilled personnel and to arrange employee’s motivation system. Recommendations also made for the government to provide adequate infrastructures such as available domestic raw materials, steady power supply, and sufficient water supply and so on to assist manufacturing firms.
