Description de huit nouvelles espèces du genre <i>Acanthocephala</i> Laporte, 1833 d’Amérique du Sud (Hemiptera, Coreidae, Acanthocephalinae)
Huit nouvelles espèces du genre Acanthocephala Laporte, 1833 (Coreidae, Acanthocephalini) de Colombie et du Brésil sont décrites, et Acanthocephala pleuritica (Costa, 1863) est redécrite, donnant la première donnée de répartition connue de l’espèce. Les descriptions incluent de nouveaux caractères sur les genitalia mâles et femelles et sur la morphologie externe, telle que l’armature des pattes. Pour chaque espèce, nous fournissons une photographie de l’habitus de l’adulte, ainsi que des photographies des genitalia mâles et femelles et une carte de répartition. Les affinités avec les autres espèces du genre sont également discutées.Eight new species of the leaf-footed bug genus Acanthocephala Laporte, 1833 (Coreidae, Acanthocephalini) from Colombia and Brazil are described, and Acanthocephala pleuritica (Costa, 1863) is redescribed giving the first known locality record of the species. The descriptions include novel characters from male and female genitalia, and from external morphology such as armature of legs. For each species, we provide a habitus photograph of the adult, as well as photographs of male and female genitalia and a distributional map. Affinities with the other species of the genus are also discussed.</p
Five new species of the genus <i>Phlugiolopsis</i> Zeuner, 1940 (Tettigoniidae: Meconematinae) from China
This paper reports five new species of Phlugiolopsis Zeuner, 1940 from Sichuan, Yunnan and Guangxi in China, i.e., Phlugiolopsis luojishanensis sp. nov., Phlugiolopsis lata sp. nov., Phlugiolopsis rongshuiensis sp. nov., Phlugiolopsis acuta sp. nov. and Phlugiolopsis daweishanensis sp. nov. We present a redescription of the male of Phlugiolopsis punctata Wang, Li & Liu, 2012, describe the female of Phlugiolopsis punctata Wang, Li & Liu, 2012 and the male of Phlugiolopsis pentagonis Bian, Shi & Chang, 2013 for the first time. In addition, images illustrating the morphology of these species and seven previously described species are provided. The distribution map of the genus Phlugiolopsis from China is also provided.</p
L’histothèque des bois de Guyane de Raymond Benoist à l’Herbier de Paris (P) : restauration et commentaires
Les collections d’anatomie végétale constituées depuis plus d’un siècle et demi ont peu retenu l’attention, même lorsqu’elles sont les références d’ouvrages classiques et une source iconographique qui pourrait être revalorisée par l’imagerie microscopique actuelle et l’interconnexion des bases de données. Le principal obstacle est dans leur montage souvent incomplet ou détérioré et leur conditionnement peu satisfaisant, rendant leur accessibilité très faible aux botanistes et autres personnes intéressées. Nous proposons ainsi un protocole simple de restauration – le premier chez des Phanérophytes – d’une collection de coupes histologiques de Bois de Guyane française. Nous commentons brièvement les résultats et les perspectives.Few attention has been paid to collections of plant anatomy gathered since more than a century and half, even if they are referential for classical published works and an iconographical source, which might be enhanced by modern microscopical imagery and the databases interconnection. The main hindrance is their unachieved or deteriorated mounting, as well as poor keeping, resulting in a very weak availability to botanists and other concerned people. Here we propose a simple restoration schedule for Phanerophytes, applied to a collection of histological sections from French Guiana. Results and prospects are briefly commented.</p
Le genre ordovicien <i>Petraster </i>Billings, 1858 (Asteroidea: Echinodermation) et la différenciation du squelette chez les premiers astéroïdes
Les faunes particulièrement abondantes et diversifiées d’astérozoaires ordoviciens de France et du Maroc apportent des connaissances nouvelles sur les premiers stades de la diversification au sein de ce sous-phylum. Ces assemblages sont dominés par les Ophiuroidea et, dans une moindre mesure, les Somasteroidea, tandis qu’Asteroidea et Stenuroidea y sont très peu représentés. Parmi les astéroïdes, la quasi-totalité des échantillons sont attribués au genre Petraster Billings, 1858 ; ce genre est révisé et P. caidramiensis n. sp. est décrit. Un autre fragment d’astéroïde, Euaxosida sp. A, est trop incomplet pour être identifié en deçà du niveau ordinal. L’expression du squelette extraxial au sein des différentes espèces du genre Petraster permet de mettre en évidence plusieurs paliers évolutifs durant l’évolution des premiers astéroïdes, ainsi que de potentielles homoplasies. Malgré de petites différences interspécifiques, l’expression des séries ambulacraires axiales et adaxiales semble, au contraire, très conservative et leur configuration étroitement liée à l’origine des Asteroidea. La morphologie de la face orale d’Euaxosida sp. A suggère qu’il s’agit probablement d’une forme de transition. L’histoire de la différenciation du squelette des astéroïdes est particulièrement difficile à interpréter en raison des variations observées dans l’expression des séries ossiculaires.A large and taxonomically diverse collection of Ordovician Asterozoa from France and Morocco enables new insights into the early evolution of the subphylum. Available specimens of both Asteroidea and Stenuroidea are comparatively few, the collection dominated by Ophiuroidea and to a lesser extent, Somasteroidea. Nearly all the asteroid specimens are assigned to Petraster Billings, 1858; P. caidramiensis n. sp. is differentiated based on the complexity of the extraxial skeleton. The genus Petraster is reviewed. Another asteroid fragment, Euaxosida sp. A, is too incomplete to assign below the ordinal level. Among species of Petraster, the extraxial skeleton suggests homoplastic emergence of ossicular series definition whereas evolution of ambulacral axial-adaxial series expressions was conservative. The stemward asteroid axial/adaxial configuration is considered largely a plesiomorphic derivative of the somasteroid condition. Ossicular details of all series, however, differ among Petraster species. Euaxosida sp. A also offers oral-surface expressions suggestive of a transitional status. Differences among ossicular series expressions exemplify concerns surrounding interpretation of early asterozoan phylogeny and taxonomy.</p
New insights in the taxonomy of Lepismatidae (Insecta, Zygentoma) with an updated key to genera and future challenges
This paper provides a revision of the morphological characters that can be used in the current taxonomy of Lepismatidae, and methodological guidelines for identification of silverfish, which requires the use of light microscope and can be helped by scanning electron microscopy. As a main objective, an updated key for the identification of all the genera of the world as they are established to date is provided and the incomplete knowledge of some of them is commented on. The insufficient knowledge of the diversity and geographic distribution of the six subfamilies of Lepismatidae is discussed, noting the most important shortcomings and problematic issues related to taxa belonging to this family, including the challenges for carrying out a comprehensive phylogeny of the group. Special attention is paid to the subfamily Ctenolepismatinae, the most diverse of Lepismatidae, erecting a new genus, Caribesella gen. nov., for the Caribbean species C. impudica comb. nov., which was previously included inside the genus Acrotelsella. We also consider that Sceletolepisma stat. nov. (i.e., sensu Irish 1987, including species with several median urosternal bristle-combs) deserves the status of a genus independent of Ctenolepisma, which, considered s. str. (i.e., lacking median urosternal combs), represents a heterogeneous group that requires further revision.</p
Review of the Heteroptera (Hemiptera) fauna of Turkey: perspectives for future research
Research on the Heteroptera fauna of Turkey has not been extensive enough to illustrate its true diversity. Although several factors contribute to this, the lack of an up-to-date and comprehensive review is a basic factor. To address this issue, we compiled a list of all the Heteroptera species recorded from Turkey in the literature and iNaturalist. In addition, we re-examined several specimens preserved in the Lodos Entomological Museum, İzmir, Turkey (LEMT). Consequently, we excluded 24 species from the checklist of Heteroptera fauna of Turkey, and proposed a new synonymy: Psallus (Psallus) pardalis Seidenstücker, 1966 = Psallus (Psallus) oenderi Wagner, 1976 syn. nov. Furthermore, we recorded following six species from Turkey for the first time: Blissus hirtulus Burmeister, 1835 (Blissidae), Loricula (Loricula) pselaphiformis Curtis, 1833 (Microphysidae), Globiceps (Globiceps) coryli V.G. Putshkov, 1970, Heterocordylus (Heterocordylus) cytisi Josifov, 1958, Mesopsallus fagi (Drapolyuk, 1990) and Psallus (Psallus) helenae Josifov, 1969 (Miridae); and described following six species as new for science: Orthonotus efei Çerçi & Koçak sp. nov., Orthotylus (Parapachylops)oenderi Çerçi, Tezcan & Koçak sp. nov., Orthotylus (Pinocapsus) girayi Çerçi & Tezcan sp. nov., Psallus (Psallus) eceae Çerçi & Koçak sp. nov., Psallus (Psallus) pehlivani Çerçi & Tezcan sp. nov. and Ribautocapsus tezcani Çerçi sp. nov. Altogether, 1668 species of Heteroptera have been recorded from Turkey (664 species in the European part and 1633 species in the Anatolian part) until now, out of them, the presence of 37 species needs confirmation. We determined the chorotypical composition of species as follows: Mediterranean (399 spp., 23.9%), European (380 spp., 22.8%), Local (280 spp., 16.8%), Widespread (182 spp., 10.9%), Endemic (128 spp., 7.7%), Turanian (127 spp., 7.5%), Turano- Mediterranean (89 spp., 5.3%), Europeo-Mediterranean (68 spp., 4.1%) and Alien (12 spp., 0.7%). We showed that provinces in the Eastern Anatolian, Southeastern Anatolian, and Black Sea regions had lower numbers of species recorded, compared to the provinces in the remaining regions. Finally, we underlined that 109 species, absent from Turkey, were recorded from three or more neighboring countries of Turkey. In summary, our findings emphasize that despite the abundant research devotedover the last 150 years to the Heteroptera fauna of Turkey, our understanding of it remains incomplete in the majority, if not in all, of the regions. Our findings strongly encourage further research, particularly in regions with small numbers of recorded species. This endeavor will undoubtedly lead to numerous novel discoveries and provide a better understanding of the true Heteroptera diversity in Turkey.</p
Taxonomy of West-Palaearctic <I>Lampromeloe</I> (Coleoptera: Meloidae) with the description of a new species
Widely distributed phoretic blister beetles usually display unstructured geographic patterns of genetic diversity within species, resulting from recurrent long-dispersal events across their range. To investigate the extent of this pattern in the phoretic genus Lampromeloe, and particularly in western Mediterranean and European populations of L. variegatus, we performed: (1) a phylogeographic analysis based on fragments of the mitochondrial genes COI and 16S, and (2) a morphological revision based on qualitative and morphometric traits. Two allopatric lineages were recovered within L. variegatus, one distributed across Europe and the other in North Africa. These lineages are readily distinguishable based on morphological traits. We conclude that these lineages constitute two diagnosable evolutionary units and, consequently, we describe the North African populations as a new species, Lampromeloe pantherinus sp. nov. The new species is closely related to L. variegatus, from which it differs mainly by the elytral macrosculpture and by the shape of male genitalia. The elytral macrosculpture of L. pantherinus is somewhat similar to that of L. cavensis, a species widely distributed in the lowlands of the Mediterranean Basin. However, these two non-sister species can be distinguished by the morphology and macrosculpture of the pronotum and by the shape of the male genitalia.</p
Two new species of <i>Monstrilla</i> (Copepoda: Monstrilloida: Monstrillidae) from a protected reef system of the Mexican Caribbean
Several adult female monstrilloid copepods, collected in March 2022 from the protected reef area of Xcalak, on the southern part of the Mexican Caribbean coast, proved to belong to two undescribed species of Monstrilla Dana, 1849. They are described here as M. xcalakensis sp. nov. and M. annulata sp. nov., partly by use of scanning electron microscopy. Females of the two species are generally similar but differ in: (1) antennular segmental structure, (2) antennular armature and ornamentation, (3) structure and setation of the fifth leg, (4) number and modifications of the caudal setae, and (5) integumental ornamentation. Comparison with congeneric species revealed distinctive features for both species that support their status as new. These two species are interesting additions to the reef-dwelling monstrilloid copepod fauna of the Mexican Caribbean and confirm Monstrilla as the most diverse genus of monstrilloids in this area, now represented by nine species.</p
Biosécurité en milieu humide : bonnes pratiques d’intervention sur les amphibiens sauvages
Les amphibiens représentent, parmi les vertébrés, la classe qui décline le plus sur Terre. Les causes de ces déclins incluent entre autres les changements climatiques, la destruction des habitats, la pollution et des maladies infectieuses émergentes. Monitorer et protéger les populations d’amphibiens implique souvent des interventions humaines au sein leur habitat naturel (en général en zones humides), avec parfois des manipulations d’individus. Ces interventions peuvent avoir des conséquences délétères tant sur le plan du bien-être animal que celui de la santé, étant donné les risques non-négligeables de propagation anthropique d’agents infectieux pour les amphibiens ou les autres organismes habitant les mêmes milieux. Le manipulateur risque également de contracter une zoonose ou une maladie à réservoir environnemental hydrique (e.g., leptospirose, salmonellose). Ces risques sont rarement considérés lors de la conception de protocoles d’intervention, alors qu’il est important de les atténuer. L’emploi d’équipements de protection et l’utilisation de substances chimiques biocides à visée de désinfection sont souvent indiqués à cet effet, mais trop souvent considérés comme les seules mesures de biosécurité nécessaires. Ces substances pouvant avoir des effets néfastes pour les milieux naturels, en particulier aquatiques, les conséquences (dont la gestion des effluents) et bénéfices de leur utilisation sur le terrain doivent être analysés. La présente revue de littérature a pour but de préconiser une liste de bonnes pratiques de manipulation d’individus et de biosécurité visant à limiter les effets négatifs des interventions humaines sur les amphibiens et leurs milieux, tout en diminuant les risques pour les opérateurs.Amphibians are the class of vertebrates declining the most on Earth. The causes of these declines include climate change, habitat destruction, pollution and emerging infectious diseases. Monitoring amphibian populations often requires human interventions in their natural habitat (usually including wetlands), sometimes involving the manipulation of individuals. These interventions can have deleterious consequences in terms of both animal welfare and health, given the non-negligible risks of anthropogenic propagation of infectious agents to amphibians or other organisms inhabiting the same environments. Operators are also at risk of contracting a zoonosis or a disease with an environmental water reservoir (e.g., leptospirosis, salmonellosis). These risks are rarely considered when designing intervention protocols, even though it is important to reduce them. The use of individual protective equipment and biocidal chemicals for disinfection is often indicated for this purpose but often considered as the only biosecurity measures needed. As biocidal substances can have harmful effects on natural environments, particularly aquatic ones, the consequences (including effluent management) and benefits of their use in the field have to be analyzed. The aim of this literature review is to provide a list of biosafety measures and recommendations when handling wild amphibians to reduce the negative effects of human intervention on them and their environments, as well as the risks for operators.</p
Démeler la monotypie de <i>Vesubia</i> Simon, 1909 et ses relations avec <i>Alopecosa</i> Simon, 1885 (Araneae, Lycosidae)
Le genre Vesubia Simon, 1909 comprend actuellement deux espèces, Vesubia jugorum (Simon, 1881) des Alpes sud occidentales françaises et italiennes et V. caduca (Karsch, 1880) de Maoui, Hawaii. La position de V. caduca avait été précédemment remise en question, mais les espèces sont toujours classées dans le genre. Dans cet article nous redécrivons V. jugorum, actualisons la diagnose du genre après examen des spécimens types et proposons le transfert de V. caduca à Hogna Simon, 1885 : le genre Vesubia est seulement représenté par V. jugorum, et devient donc monotypique. En outre, nous avons exploré les relations du genre dans un contexte phylogénétique plus large dans lequel Vesubia émerge dans un clade avec les représentants d’Alopecosa Simon, 1885.The genus Vesubia Simon, 1909 currently comprises two species, Vesubia jugorum (Simon, 1881) from the French and Italian SW Alps and V. caduca (Karsch, 1880) from Maoui, Hawaii. The position of V. caduca has been previously questioned, but both species are still clssified in the genus. In this paper we redescribe V. jugorum, update the diagnosis of the genus after examination of the type specimens and propose the transference of V. caduca to Hogna Simon, 1885 leading to the genus Vesubia being solely represented by V. jugorum, thus monotypic. In addition, we explore the relationships of the genus within a broader phylogenetic context in which Vesubia emerges in a clade together with Alopecosa Simon, 1885 representatives
