Influence of plant growth regulators and nutrients on biometric, growth and yield attributes in Blackgram (Vigna mungoL.)
A study was carried on the transport efficiency of blackgram as influenced by the foliar application of plant growth regulators and nutrient mixture during rabi, 2017-18 as pot culture experiment at glass house of the Department of Crop Physiology. Foliar application of salicylic acid (SA) (250 ppm), mepiquat chloride (MC) (250 ppm), chlorocholine chloride (CCC) (150 ppm) were applied at flower initiation stage and 15 days after the first spray, on blackgram with and without the seed treatment of salicylic acid (50 ppm). TNAU Pulse Wonder (1%) was applied as foliar spray at peak flowering stage. Among the treatments, TNAU Pulse Wonder recorded higher plant height, leaf area, leaf area index and seed yield plant-1. It is concluded that TNAU Pulse Wonder improved the source-sink relationship compared to other treatments with enhanced biometric, growth parameters and yield of blackgram
Response of butter beans (Phaseolus lunatus L.) for different combinations of nitrogen and phosphorus on growth, yield and quality characters
A field experiment was conducted during June-October (2017) at Horticultural Research Station, Kodaikanal to study the response of butter beans for different combinations of nitrogen and phosphorus on growth, yield and quality characters. A randomized block design was followed with 17 combinations of N (30, 40, 50 and 60 kg/ha), P (37.5, 50, 62.5 and 75 kg/ha) and additional combination of 70: 75:50 kg N P2O5 K2O/ha. K 50 kg/ha was kept constant. The experimental results revealed that all the fertilizer treatments significantly increased the plant height, number of branches per plant, days to 50 % flowering, number of pods per cluster, 100 seed weight, pod weight, pod yield per hectare, protein content and crude fibre content of butter beans. Maximum plant height (220.33 cm), number of branches per plant (4.79), minimum days to 50 % flowering (50) and 100 seed weight were recorded in the combination of 50 kg N, 37.5 kg P2O5 and 50 kg K2O per hectare. Number of pods per cluster (6.78), pod weight (14.00 g) and pod yield per hectare (5.85 t) were maximum in the combination of 60 kg N, 75 kg P2O5 and 50 kg K2O per hectare
Studies of the effect of growth promoting hormones on rooting of cutting in Caralluma (Caralluma sarkariae) Lavranos & Frandsen
Caralluma sarkariae is a succulent herb belongs to the family of Apocyanaceae. The population of Caralluma sarkariaeis found growing in a secluded area at Nagamalai hills of Madurai, Tamil Nadu. The crop with its immense medicinal value such as anti-obesity and anti-diabetic properties need to be explored and promoted in non-traditional areas. Hence the experiment was taken up to study the effect of growth regulators on rooting of cuttings in Caralluma sarkariae. The results revealed that, the use of growth regulators greatly influenced on growth parameters particularly shoot and root length, when side shoots were treated with IBA 200 ppm
