Comparative analysis of various soils concerning chemical parameters in command (canal irrigated) and uncommand (well irrigated and rainfed) areas of Raisinghnagar, District Sriganganagar (Rajasthan)
Soil is a vital source for the cultivation of all types of crops. The crop’s cultivation depends on the soil\u27s physical and chemical properties. The optimum plant growth and crop yield depend not only on the total amount of nutrients present in the soil at a particular time but also on their availability which in turn is controlled by the physical and chemical properties of soil. So, in the present study, a comparative analysis was undertaken between various soil parameters (chemical properties of soil) of different vicinity like Command (canal irrigated) and Uncommand (well irrigated and rainfed) agriculture fields of various villages in Sriganganagar District, Rajasthan. The cumulative analysis of soil chemical parameters regarding the Command (canal irrigated) area and Uncommand (well irrigated and rainfed) area were undertaken during the study period
Biology and morphometric of shoot and fruit borer (Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee) on brinjal crop under laboratory conditions
The study on the biology of shoot and fruit borer was carried out in the Research Laboratory of the Department of Entomology, College of Agriculture, CAU, Imphal, India, Kharif season during 2021-22. White, creamy eggs with an oval to elongated shape were placed singly in bunches. On food made from brinjal, the incubation period for the brinjal shoot and fruit borer ranged from 3-7 days, with a mean time of 4.4±1.26 days. The average larval time varied from 13-20 days with a mean duration of 16.8±2.41 days in the brinjal food portion under laboratory conditions. The larvae were white to dark pinkish throughout the instars to become fully grown. It took an average of 9-15 days for a pinkish to dark brown pupa to develop, and between 6 and 8 days for the pupa to mature into an adult. The adult moths were little with whitish wings, and they lived an average of 5.4±1.50 days for female and 2.95±0.98 for male adults, ranging from 4.0 to 5.5 days during the experiment. As a result, the entire life cycle was completed in a brinjal diet ranging from 31 to 39 days, with a mean time of 34.9±2.19 days. During the trial, the male-to-female ratio ranged from 1 to 2, with an average ratio of 1:2 in a lab setting
Screening of different genotypes/cultivars of black gram against stem fly, Melanagromyza sojae (Zehntner) in Kharif season
Total thirteen black gram genotypes/cultivars (SKNU-13-02, SKNU-13-03, SKNU-13-05, SKNU-11-11, SKNU-12-04, SKNU-12-07, SKNU-12-08, SKNU-15-01, SKNU-15-02, SKNU-15-03, T9, GU 1 and Rajasthan local) were screened for their relative susceptibility against stem fly, Melanagromyza sojae during summer (2017) at Entomological farm, B. A. College of Agriculture, Anand Agricultural University, Anand.SKNU-15-01 (17.99%), SKNU-15-02 (18.81%) and SKNU-12-07 (19.48%) registered less infestation of stem fly and emerged as resistant genotypes. The genotypes/cultivars SKNU-13-05 (35.43%), SKNU-12-08 (35.83%) and Rajasthan local (38.26%) proved to be moderately resistant. GU 1 (51.43%), T9 (55.00%), SKNU-13-02 (55.05%), SKNU-12-04 (55.05%), SKNU-15-03 (58.03%) and SKNU-13-03 (59.25%) categorized as moderately susceptible. At the same time, SKNU-11-11 (60.36%) proved to be susceptible against stem fly. Maximum seed yield was harvested from the genotype SKNU-15-02 (833 kg/ha) during Kharif, 2017 followed by SKNU-12-07 (786 kg/ha)
Population dynamics of arthropods on tomato (Lycopersicum esculentum l.) in Vindhya plateau region of Madhya Pradesh
The field experiment results on “population dynamics of different insect pest and their natural enemies on tomato” showed that the aphid population peaked in the 7th SMW (8.83 aphids/6 leaves) during Rabi Season 2021-22. Amrasca biguttula population attained its peak (6.33 jassids/ 6 leaves) during the 11th SMW. The first peak of the leaf miner population was observed (4.67 leaf miner/6 leaves) during the 11th SMW and the second during the 16th SMW. The tomato mirid bug had the highest mean population (5.80 bugs/ plant) during the 11th SMW. The damaged fruit borer (H. armigera) was first recorded during the 9th SMW and maximum fruit damage was 96 per cent during the 13th SMW. The maximum mean population of ladybird beetle (5.26 lady beetles/ plant) and weaver ant (12.06 Weaver ant/ plant) was recorded during the 11th standard week. The peak population of damselfly (2.20 damselfly/ plant), whitefly (7.83 whitefly/6 leaves) and dragonfly (2.20 dragonflies/plant) were observed during the 10th SMW
Plant growth and yield performance of pomegranate varieties under hot arid eco-system
Five pomegranate varieties were evaluated for vegetative growth and yield for five years during 2017-2021 under a hot arid eco-system. No significant difference was observed among varieties with respect to vegetative characters except canopy volume. The maximum canopy volume was observed in cultivar Jalore seedless (1.73 m3) followed by Bhagwa (0.78 m3) and minimum in variety Ganesh (0.40 m3). The physical fruit parameters and yield attributing characters were recorded as superior in Jalore Seedless exhibited maximum fruit weight (189.8 g), fruit volume (127.2 cc), test weight (282.2 g), total aril weight/fruit (123.8 g), number of fruits/plant (66.6) and yield/plant (12.63 kg) followed by Ganesh and minimum was recorded in Phule Arakta with fruit weight (128.2 g), fruit volume (89.2 cc), test weight (174.0 g), number of fruits/plant (46.2) and yield/plant (5.00 kg). Aril weight (0.28 g), aril length and width (9.99 x 7.22 mm) were also observed to be significantly high in Jalore Seedless. A non-significant difference in juice per cent was observed among Mridula, Jalore Seedless and Bhagwa, with a maximum in cultivar Mridula (58), followed by Jalore Seedless and Bhagwa (50.4) and a minimum in Ganesh (37.4). The highest juice TSS was found in Jalore Seedless (17.02 °Brix) followed by Ganesh (16.52 °Brix) and Bhagwa (15.18 °Brix), while it was significantly lower in Mridula (13.26 °Brix). Based on vegetative growth, fruit physical parameters and fruit yield the performance of Jalore Seedless was superior over the other four varieties under a hot arid environment
An assessment and distribution of butterflies (Lepidoptera: Papilionoidea) in Sangla Valley (District Kinnaur: Himachal Pradesh)
The present study was conducted to understand the butterfly diversity in the Sangla Valley of Kinnaur District of Himachal Pradesh, India from April 2015 to March 2018. A total of 40 species of butterflies belonging to 33 genera and five families were recorded from the present study. From the observed butterflies, the family Nymphalidae was the most dominant among the five families with 20 species, followed by Lycaenidae comprising 10 species, Pieridae with 07 species, Papilionidae with 02 species and Hesperiidae with 01species. The butterfly fauna of Sangla Valley has been documented for the first time. The diversity of butterflies is near lower altitudes as compared to alpine regions and Bhoj Patra forests in Cchitkul. Maximum diversity of butterflies exists in open spaces on wild vegetation. One species of Snow Apollo i.e. Parnassius hardwckii has been recorded for the first time from Sangla Valley landscape. The present study added valuable information on the diversity of butterfly fauna and will contribute in developing effective conservation measures in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh
Influence of organic manures and zinc on yield, quality and profitability of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) under semi-arid conditions
The study was conducted to determine the effect of organic manures and zinc on radish\u27s growth, yield, quality and economics. The maximum average weight of the root (193.72 g), root: shoot ratio (2.72), root yield (258.86 q/ha), ascorbic acid (13.72 mg/100g), zinc content in leaves (25.05 ppm),) net return (Rs 170280/ha) and B: C ratio (2.92) were recorded and significantly influenced in treatment M2 but these parameters were at par with M3 except net return. In the case of zinc levels, the maximum average weight of root (194.81 g), root: shoot ratio (2.62), root yield (253.30 q/ha), ascorbic acid (13.40 mg/100g), net return (Rs 167810/ha) and B: C ratio (2.96) were recorded in treatment ZnSO4 @ 25 kg/ha but these parameters were at par with Z3. However, zinc content in leaves and roots (27.31 & 47.15 ppm) were recorded more in treatment Z3 @ 30 kg/ha but these parameters did not differ significantly from treatment Z2. The combining effect of different organic manures and zinc levels was significant on the B: C ratio. Moreover, the interactive effect between vermicompost @ 3 t/ha along with ZnSO4 @ 25 kg/ha was significantly higher (3.27) over the rest of the treatments except M3Z3, M2Z3 and M3Z2, which were found statistically at par to it
Status of major wheat diseases in sub mountainous region of district Ropar, Punjab, India
The wheat diseases, including yellow rust, brown rust, powdery mildew and karnal bunt, continue to be the major impediments to the successful cultivation of wheat crops in the sub-mountainous region of Ropar (Punjab). During the survey, it was observed that the yellow rust disease is a pre-dominant disease of wheat in this region and has always appeared first foci of infection in Ropar district for the last several years in Punjab. The disease caused maximum infection on cultivar Barbat, HD 2967, Shriram 212 followed by WH 1105, HD 3086, PBW 677, HD 3226 and low infection on Unnat PBW 343 and PBW 1 Zn, DBW 222 and PBW 766. However, no infection was recorded in PBW 725, Unnat PBW 550 and PBW 752. The brown rust disease was absent from most of the fields. Although, occasionally found in few low-level fields (5-10S among infested fields). The head blight disease was primarily recorded in durum wheat in wet areas and the maximum incidence (16.45%) was found in the Barbet cultivar in season 2021-22. The karnal bunt disease frequently appeared in this region depending upon the weather condition at the booting stage of the crop and recorded the prevalence range of 0.1-0.40 per cent in surveyed fields. The survey reports will help to prioritize disease management in extension programmes in this region
