    Bio-efficacy of newer insecticides and bio-pesticides against termite on chickpea in arid region of Rajasthan

    The seed treatment, as well as soil application of imidacloprid 600 FS @ 5 ml/kg + Beauveria bassiana 1.15 WP @ 2 kg /ha, was found most effective against termite (9.34% plant damage) after 110 days of crop sowing, followed by fipronil 5 SC @ 5 ml/ kg + Metarrihizium anisopliae 1.15 WP @ 2 kg/ha (10%) and clothianidin 50 WDG @ 2 g/ kg + Beauveria bassiana 1.15 WP @ 2 kg /ha (10.62%). The treatments alone seed treatment of imidacloprid 600 FS @ 5 ml/ kg seed (11.56%) followed by fipronil 5 SC @ 5 ml/ kg seed (12.03%) and clothianidin 50 WDG @ 2 g/ kg seed (12.65%) were found moderately effective while, bio-pesticides viz., Metarrihizium anisopliae 1.15 WP @ 2 kg/ha and Beauveria bassiana 1.15 WP @ 2 kg /ha with 15.78 and 15.47 per cent plant damage were found least effective for controlling the termite population. The maximum yield was obtained in imidacloprid 600 FS + Beauveria bassiana 1.15 WP (18.70 q ha-1) followed by fipronil 5 SC + Metarrihizium anisopliae 1.15 WP (18.20 q ha-1) and clothianidin 50 WDG + Beauveria bassiana1.15 WP (18.00 q ha-1), respectively

    Response of maize (Zea mays L.) to the soil application of phosphorus fertilizer

    To investigate the effect of different phosphorus levels on the yield and yield components of maize crop, the experiment was carried out in the Badakhshan province of Afghanistan and was laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications having a plot size of 2 m x 3 m (6m2) with row-to-row distance of 0.75 m and plant to plant distance of 0.25 m. The levels of phosphorus were 0 (control), 40, 80, 120, 160, 200, 240 kg P2O5 ha-1. Results indicated that the different levels of phosphorus significantly affected maize plant height, leaf area index, No. of cobs/plant, Cob length (cm), No. of Grains/cob, No. of Rows/cob, 100 grain weight (gr), seed yield and Stover yield. Application of Phosphorus at the rate of 160 kg ha-1 resulted in maximum plant height (181.02 cm), leaf area index (2.30), No. of cobs/plant (2.20), Cob length (18.63cm), No. of Grains/cob (347.33), No. of Rows/cob (17.67), 100-grain weight (20.33gr), seed yield 4882 kg/ha and Stover yield 6943 kg/ha as compared to the minimum values in control plots. It is concluded that Phosphorus should applied at the rate of 160 kg P2O5 ha-1 for the best grain yield in the agro-ecological conditions in Badakhshan province

    Relationship of weather parameters and date of showing on vector-borne disease, stem necrosis of potato

    Stem necrosis is a hot spot disease caused by Tospovirus, a groundnut bud necrosis virus strain for Rajasthan. The minimum per cent incidence (5.56%) of stem necrosis was recorded with the variety Kufri Sindhuri and Kufri Pushkar (7.69%), while the maximum per cent incidence (24.87%) in Kufri Pukhraj and Kufri Bahar (23.75%). Out of three sowing dates, minimum disease incidence was recorded on 3rd planting date. The maximum and minimum temperature was highly significant, with a positive correlation against stem necrosis on the first planting date. A highly significant positive correlation between stem necrosis and the thrips population was detected. The maximum area under the disease progress curve (AUDPC) value was found on 1st date of sowing. The 3rd date of sowing produced the maximum number of tubers per plot, marketable yield and total tuber yield (q/ha). However, the maximum per cent dry matter was recorded in K. Sindhuri (22.27%) and K. Pushkar (21.01%). Thus, the experiment results suggested that the variety of Kufri Sindhuri and Kufri Pushkar with planting in the last week of October caused a significant reduction in stem necrosis disease leading to a corresponding increase in tuber yield of potato

    According to the result of the current study, plant height, canopy, stem girth, number of primary branches and total dry matter of the plant at 30 DAT, 60 DAT, 90 DAT were recorded maximum with the application of 100% RDF. The maximum yield parameters, such as a number of flowers per plant, yield/plant, yield/plot and yield/ha., flowering parameters, such as minimum days to first flower bud appearance, 50% flowering, first harvest and maximum flowering duration, i.e., the highest gross return/ha and the net return/ha were recorded highest by the application of 75% RDF + Vermicompost (1.25t/ha)

    Imidacloprid residues in cotton guttation fluid, pollen and soil when applied as seed dressings

    Guttation fluid and pollen are possible pathways where pollinators may be exposed to systemic insecticides. During the investigation, Gossypium hirsutum v. H 1098i seeds were coated with Gaucho (Imidacloprid 600 FS at 2.4 g a.i. kg-1seeds) and planted in the field. Guttation fluid, pollen, and soil samples were collected during the season and the samples were analysed by HPLC (High-Performance Liquid Chromatography). The guttation fluid and pollen were collected at three times after 50 per cent flowering. Soil samples were collected before sowing and at harvest. Method validation was achieved by performing a recovery experiment at two fortification levels of 0.05 and 0.10 mg kg-1. The average recoveries obtained from guttation fluid, pollen and soil samples were above 85 per cent. The residues of imidacloprid in guttation fluid, pollen and soil in treated and untreated seed were below detectable levels

    Impact of foliar spray of thiourea on growth attributes of two cultivars of soybean

    Soybean is one of the major oilseed crops cultivated in India and globally. In India, it is mainly cultivated in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Telangana. Despite being grown in large areas, the importance of soybean and its oil is still very prevalent. The objective was to investigate the impact of foliar spraying of thiourea at three different concentrations (250, 500, and 750 ppm) during two growth stages (20-25 days after sowing and 50-55 days after sowing) on two soybean varieties, PS1347 and SL958. Several growth parameters were recorded and then analysed, such as plant height, plant dry weight, stem girth, leaf chlorophyll content, intercepted PAR, crop growth rate and relative growth rate. It was found that thiourea brought a positive influence on the crop, and the maximum improvement was recorded by foliar spraying of 750 ppm thiourea, which was statistically at par with the foliar spray of thiourea at the concentration of 500 ppm

    Seasonal incidence of major insect pests of bottle gourd (Lagenaria siceraria) in South-western Haryana

    Bottle gourd is an important vegetable crop that fetches recurrent income from farmers. The present investigation was carried out during the kharif season of 2019 to study the incidence of prevailing four insect pests of bottle gourd in relation to weather. The seasonal incidence of major insect pests such as Aulacophora foveicollis Lucas, Bactrocera cucurbitae Coquillett, Aphis gossypii Glover and Bemicia tabaci Gennadius was studied. The fruit infestation by Bactrocera cucurbitae was initiated in the 34th SMW, and the maximum infestation was noticed in the 36th SMW. The fruit fly infestation was significant and positively correlated with evening relative humidity and rainfall. Aulacophora foveicollis incidence in bottle gourd was maximum in the 38th SMW. The beetle population was significantly and negatively correlated with minimum temperature and evening relative humidity. The maximum infestation of aphids and whitefly was noticed in the later stage of the crop during the 39th SMW, and the aphid population was significantly correlated with minimum temperature, evening relative humidity and rainfall, whereas the whitefly population was correlated significantly with evening relative humidity and rainfall

    Assessment, estimation and economic performance of different Kharif Onion (Allium cepa L.) varieties under Malwa Plateau of Madhya Pradesh

    A farm testing trial (OFT) was conducted on the 13 farmers’ fields of the Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh to assess the most of assessing variety of Kharif onion for two consecutive years i.e. 2018-19 and 2019-20. The present study revealed that onion variety Bhima Dark Red (BDR) performed better for most of the growth parameters, yield and yield attributing traits and economic performance as well as gross and net returns compared to Bhima Super and N-53 varieties. Maximum plant height (63.72 cm), number of leaves per plant (13.17), leaf length (51.85 cm), bulb diameter (5.95 cm), fresh weight of bulb (102.53 g), cured weight of bulb (93.38 g), bulb yield (262.56 q/ha), minimum neck thickness of bulb (1.10 cm) and bolting percentage (0.70%) were observed in Bhima Dark Red. Bhima Dark Red variety recorded an additional net return of Rs. 71,541 and Rs. 198667 over Bhima Super and N-53. Highest B: C ratio was obtained with Bhima Dark Red (6.74) as compared to Bhima Super (5.47) and N-53 (3.42), respectively
