Corporate Governance Rating and Firm Performance: Evidence from Taiwan
No full textAfter the Asian financial crises, scholars started to focus on the importance of corporate governance which is the processes, practices and policies that a company relies on to make formal decisions and to manage the company. Corporate governance ratings act as a corporate governance tool by providing information to investors. Investors therefore expect that the ratings information will be incorporated in firm returns or value. This study examines the relationship between corporate governance rating and firm performance in Taiwan during the years 2014-2018. We use the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) corporate governance rating of a firm's corporate governance structure and analyze this rating in relation to the firm's operating performance. Accounting, based performance measures of firmsreturn on asset (ROA), return on equity (ROE) and earnings per share (EPS), were used to compare with TWSE corporate governance evaluation based on five sub-indices that are "Protecting Shareholder Rights and Interests", "Treating Shareholders Equitably", "Enhancing Board Composition and Operation", "Increasing Information Transparency", and "Putting Corporate Social Responsibility into Practice". The results show that corporate governance does matter in Taiwan. The study shows that better governed firms measured by high corporate governance rating have better performance in Taiwan.補正完畢TW

A Dynamic Recommendation System Integrated Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) and Matrix Factorization

the precise prediction of users’ interests. Prior MF-based methods adapt the overall rating to make the recommendation by extracting latent factors from users and items. However, in real applications, people’s preferences usually vary with time; the traditional MF-based methods could not properly capture the change of
users’ interests. In this paper, by incorporating the recurrent neural network (RNN) into MF, we developed a novel recommendation system, M-RNN-F, to effectively describe the preference evolution of users over time. A learning model is proposed to capture the evolution pattern and predict the user preference in the future. The experimental results show that M-RNN-F performs better than other state-of-the-art recommendation algorithms. In addition, we conduct experiments on real world dataset to demonstrate the practicability.補正完畢TW
From altar to autopsy table: ecological imaginaries, medical violence and parareligious affect in William Carlos Williams's 'The Use of Force' and Tess Gerritsen's The Surgeon
No full textThis article compares William Carlos Williams’s short story ‘The Use of Force’ (1938) and Tess Gerritsen’s novel The Surgeon (2001) to explore how biomedical care can slide into coercion and how clinical spaces oscillate between sanctuary and sacrilege. Building on Michel Foucault’s formulation of clinical vision, together with Julia Kristeva’s account of abjection and René Girard’s sacrificial theory, I propose a three-strand analytic—power/knowledge, Gothic embodiment and parareligious affect—supplemented by an ecoGothic perspective that scales clinical violence from flesh to environment. Through close reading, the essay shows how Williams’s intimate house call converts beneficent intention into brute force, while Gerritsen’s medical thriller grotesquely weaponises medical expertise: the gaze that sees also dominates, and instruments of cure—tongue depressor, spoon, scalpel—become ritual implements that breach bodily borders. Attending to gendered vulnerability and trauma poetics, the analysis situates Gerritsen’s femicidal surgeries within patriarchal control and foregrounds the counter-agency of Jane Rizzoli and Catherine Cordell. Placing a modernist vignette beside a 21st century medical thriller, the article maps both continuities and ruptures in the ontological, epistemic and ethical stakes of clinical authority, tracing how sacrificial logic, secular priesthood and toxic ecologies persist across periods. The contribution is twofold: to Gothic studies, by clarifying medicine’s parasacral volatility and its ecological imaginaries; and to bioethics and the medical humanities, by articulating a normative claim that only practices disciplined by consent, narrative reciprocity and institutional accountability can sustain the secular covenant of care. Otherwise, curative ritual hardens into authorised brutality, and knowledge is purchased through a sacrificial economy in which cura collapses into cruelty. Such findings refine debates on clinical paternalism, narrative ethics and trauma representation in literature.補正完畢GB
Body-mind harmony in Taekwondo: Mindfulness as a moderator in enhancing physical literacy, self-efficacy, and learning outcomes
No full textThis study examined the moderating role of mindfulness in the relationships between physical literacy, self-efficacy, and learning outcomes in university-level Taekwondo physical education. A total of 282 students completed an 18-week intervention using five mindfulness strategies: breath awareness, body scan, skill visualization, mindful movement, and self-directed practice. Using PLS-SEM and t-tests, physical literacy significantly predicted self-efficacy (β = 0.651, p < .001) and learning outcomes (β = 0.717, p < .001), with mindfulness significantly moderating both paths. The intervention group outperformed the control group across all post-test measures. Findings support integrating mindfulness-based pedagogy to enhance confidence, skill acquisition, and academic achievement in physical education, with broader implications for holistic development in higher education.補正完畢US
Utilizing Genetic Algorithms in Conjunction with ANN-Based Stock Valuation Models to Enhance the Optimization of Stock Investment Decisions
No full textNavigating the stock market’s unpredictability and reducing vulnerability to its volatility requires well-informed decisions on stock selection, capital allocation, and transaction timing. While stock selection can be accomplished through fundamental analysis, the extensive data involved often pose challenges in discerning pertinent information. Timing, typically managed through technical analysis, may experience delays, leading to missed opportunities for stock transactions. Capital allocation, a quintessential resource optimization dilemma, necessitates meticulous planning for resolution. Consequently, this thesis leverages the optimization attributes of genetic algorithms, in conjunction with fundamental analysis and the concept of combination with repetition optimization, to identify appropriate stock selection and capital allocation strategies. Regarding timing, it employs deep learning coupled with the Ohlson model for stock valuation to ascertain the intrinsic worth of stocks. This lays the groundwork for transactions to yield favorable returns. In terms of experimentation, this study juxtaposes the integrated analytical approach of this thesis with the equal capital allocation strategy, TAIEX, and the Taiwan 50 index. The findings affirm that irrespective of the Taiwan stock market’s bullish or bearish tendencies, the method proposed in this study indeed facilitates investors in making astute investment decisions and attaining substantial profits.補正完畢CH
論健保署停止特約之行政行為性質–以司法院釋字第753號解釋為中心
No full text中央健康保險署與醫事服務機構間之全民健康保險特約醫事服務機構特合約關係存續中，特約機構若「以不正當行為或以虛偽之證明、報告或陳述，申報醫療費用」，健保署除得依全民健康保險法處以罰鍰、公告名稱及違法事實外，亦得依全民健康保險醫事服務機構特約及管理辦法「停止特約」。上開健保署所為「停止特約」，民國95年7月18日最高行政法院95年7月份庭長法官聯席會議（二）決議認係行政處分。106年10月6日司法院公布釋字第753號【全民健保特約之違約處置案】解釋，則認「停止特約」等行政行為係違約之處理，宣告特管辦法有關規定具有健保法授權，未違反憲法法律保留與法律授權明確性原則，足見並非認停止特約係行政處分。本文認為，特管辦法停止特約規定係定型化契約，透過轉引成為約款，於他造違約時發生債務不履行約定損害賠償責任，性質係行政契約形成權或抗辯權之意思表示，非行政處分。停止特約不得對非特約當事人之醫事人員主張，透過雙方合意和解，另締結債務變更契約，自得恢復效力。停止特約規定與憲法法律保留原則間之關係，考量健保涉及公益，除對特約機構限制工作權與財產權外，亦間接影響被保險人財產權與健康權，審查應兼由除外說及授權說立論，較為周延。惟無論依何說，並無違反憲法。停止特約基於以上，性質實為行政契約，如此方與司法院釋字第753號解釋意旨相符，有關實務應檢討改進，上開最高行政法院決議須儘速不再援用，以免遭受違憲質疑。補正完畢TW
The Battlefield in Your Ear: Political Parties' Narratives on Parliamentary Reform or the Expansion of Legislative Power Through Podcasts.
No full textPodcasts have emerged as a significant medium for political communication, particularly as "low-attention media" that blend affective intimacy with multitasking listening practices. This study analyzes how Taiwanese legislators used podcasts during the 2024 controversy over parliamentary reform and legislative power expansion. Drawing on 28 podcast episodes from Huang Kuo-chang and Miao Poya, the research employs a multimethod design that combines Mandarin-language corpus analysis (Corpro) with reflexive use of generative AI (ChatGPT-4o). Findings reveal contrasting rhetorical styles. Huang's discourse emphasizes emotional immediacy, employing colloquial registers, confrontational humor, and moral polarization to mobilize listeners. Miao's discourse exemplifies institutional rhetoric, privileging legalistic terminology, procedural reasoning, and appeals to constitutional norms. Yet the distinction is not absolute: Huang occasionally invoked procedural arguments, while Miao sometimes adopted affective storytelling. These overlaps demonstrate how political actors navigate a rhetorical spectrum rather than a strict binary. Empirically, the study contributes one of the first systematic analyses of podcast-based political discourse in Taiwan, addressing gaps in non-Western digital media research. Methodologically, it illustrates both the potential and the limits of integrating corpusbased tools with generative AI as heuristic supplements to human-led interpretation. The findings underscore how podcasts' affordances reshape the balance between emotional resonance and institutional authority in digital political communication.補正完畢KO
