Association between health behaviors and mood disorders among the elderly: a community-based cohort study
Background: According to a WHO report, nearly 15% of adults aged 60 and over suffer from a mental disorder, constituting 6.6% of the total disability for this age group. Taipei City faces rapid transformation towards an aging society, with the proportion of elderly in the total population rising from 12% in 2008 to 16% in 2016. The aim of this study is to identify the prevalence of mental disorders among the elderly in Taipei City and to elucidate risk factors contributing to mental disorders.
Methods: The elderly health examination database was obtained from the Department of Health, Taipei City government, from 2005 to 2012. A total of 86,061 people underwent publicly funded health examinations, with 348,067 visits. Each year, there are around 43,000 elderly persons in Taipei City using this service. We used a mental health questionnaire including five questions to estimated relative risks among potential risk factors with the generalized estimating equations (GEE) model to measure the mental health status of the elderly. Mood disorders were measured with the Brief Symptom Rating Scale (BSRS-5) questionnaire. Age, education level, gender, marital status, living alone, drinking milk, eating vegetables and fruits, long-term medication, smoking status, frequency of alcohol consumption, frequency of physical activity, BMI, and number of chronic diseases were included as covariates.
Results: The results show that being male (odds ratio (OR) 0.57; 95% CI = 0.56, 0.59), higher education (OR 0.88; 95% CI = 0.82, 0.95), no long-term medication (OR 0.57; 95% CI = 0.56, 0.58), and exercising three or more times per week (OR 0.94; 95% CI = 0.91, 0.98) were all positively correlated with better emotional status. However, being divorced (OR = 1.22, 95% CI = 1.09, 1.36), not drinking milk (OR = 1.12, 95% CI = 1.09, 1.14), not eating enough vegetables and fruits every day (OR = 1.78, 95% CI = 1.73, 1.83), daily smoking (OR = 1.15, 95% CI = 1.01, 1.32), and having more chronic diseases (OR = 1.02, 95% CI = 1.01, 1.03) were all correlated with poor mental status among the elderly.
Conclusions: The findings of this research can both estimate the prevalence of mood disorders at the community level, and identify risk factors of mood disorders at the personal level.補正完畢DE

key elements in successful VR event marketing. Using a two-phase design, the study first conducts expert
interviews with curators, venue managers, and policymakers to develop valid measurement scales. In the second phase, a survey of VR exhibition attendees tests the proposed framework through exploratory
and confirmatory factor analysis. By linking authenticity, experiential value, and technology readiness, the study offers actionable insights for enhancing VR event marketing strategies. Intermixing of Sn3Ag0.5Cu solder balls and Sn52In solder paste for interconnection
As semiconductor technology advances, products are evolving toward higher performance and miniaturization. Moreover, global warming and climate change have considerably affected human life, making the development of low-temperature lead-free solder an important research topic. Sn3Ag0.5Cu solder balls were combined with low-temperature solder paste for energy efficiency. The process temperature was reduced by intermixing Sn3Ag0.5Cu solder balls and Sn52In solder paste. The mixed-assembly Sn3Ag0.5Cu/Sn52In solder joint was fabricated at a lower bonding temperature. This study presents an investigation of a composite solder system comprising medium–high-temperature lead-free solder Sn3Ag0.5Cu and a low-temperature lead-free solder Sn52In, which was bonded to an ENIG substrate. The microstructure and shear strength of the hybrid solder were examined. Sn52In low-temperature solder paste combined with Sn3Ag0.5Cu ball-grid-array (BGA) solder balls was used to reduce the process temperature. It enables the reflow process to occur at temperatures 155 ℃, compared to the typical 250 ℃ for standard SnAgCu solders. This reduction in temperature minimizes thermal stress on sensitive components and substrates, improving overall assembly reliability. The experimental results revealed that at 60 ℃, due to insufficient Cu content in the solder joint, heterogeneous nucleation resulted in discontinuous (Cu,Ni)6(Sn,In)5 in regions with relatively high Cu concentrations. At 80 ℃, the discontinuous (Cu,Ni)6(Sn,In)5 gradually transformed into a layered structure over time, and after 2000 h of aging, the reduction in the Cu content led to the transformation of (Cu,Ni)6(Sn,In)5 into (Ni,Cu)(Sn,In)2. At 130 ℃, after 1000 h of reaction, rapid intermetallic growth caused the surface treatment layer to fully react, resulting in failure. The ball shear test results revealed that the hybrid solder had a weak shear strength, with brittle fractures observed across all the tested samples. The shear stress decreased as a dual-layer intermetallic structure formed at the interface.補正完畢DE
Utilization of agro-processing by-products for Bacillus velezensis EB.KN15 fermentation and elucidation of its potential fungicide effect
Agro-processing by-products have been widely used for fermentation to produce bacteria and their bioactive compounds. The aim of this work was to reuse agro by-products as a substrate to produce a bacterial strain Bacillus velezensis EB.KN15 and reporting its potential fungicide effect against various pathogenic fungi. Groundnut oil cake (GOC) was newly investigated as a potential substrate for B. velezensis EB.KN15 fermentation. This substrate contained significant amount of protein (35.7%), lipid (14.3%), total ash (12.34%), and diverse mineral elements. The suitable medium was investigated containing 2% C/N source (mixture of GOC/LB = 2/1), initial pH medium at 6.5, salt compositions of 0.05% CaSO4.2H2O and 0.1% K2HPO4.3H2O, fermented at 34oC, shaking speed at 200 rpm for 36 h. The utilization of a 14 L-bioreactor system for fermentation resulted in harvesting higher bacterial productivity (7.94×1012 CFU/mL) in a much shorter cultivation time (10 h) compared to fermentation in the minor flasks (3.018×109 CFU/mL after 36 h). In bioassays, B. velezensis EB.KN15 showed potential antifungal activity against various pathogenic fungal strains. Of these, Fusarium oxysporum was the most significantly inhibited at a value of 68.18%. The bioactive compounds produced by EB.KN15 was identified using GCMS, and their mechanism interaction was further investigated using a molecular docking study. B. velezensis EB.KN15 was also found producing 2 major plant growth-promoting compounds, including gibberellic acid (GA3) and zeatin with contents of 1589 µg/mL and 30.84 µg/mL, respectively and minor amount of indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) and kinetin. The results suggested that GOC could be used as a promising substrate to produce B. velezensis EB.KN15 for applying as a biocontrol agent in biofungicides and biofertilizers.補正完畢VN
Effects of Microplastics on Nitrogen Removal Performance of Enriched Anammox Cultures
Microplastics (MPs) and their chemical leachates are increasingly detected in landfill leachate, raising concerns about impacts on biological nitrogen removal. This study examined the effects of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and polypropylene (PP) MPs on anaerobic ammonium oxidation (anammox) performance using suspended, attached, and granular biomass. The results showed that exposure to LDPE and PP MPs did not significantly inhibit specific anammox activity (SAA) across all anammox biomass types. However, the leachates of LDPE and PP MPs under relevant EU migration testing guidelines could cause transient inhibition. Non-targeted GC-MS analysis identified 31 and 37 leachable compounds from LDPE and PP, including the toxic plasticizer dibutyl phthalate (DBP). DBP caused concentration-dependent but transient inhibition of nitrogen removal in granular biomass, peaking at 29.4% after 5 h at 100 mg/L, with full recovery within 24 h. Higher DBP retention was observed in granular and attached growth biomass compared to suspended growth biomass. Crucially, complex biomass structures buffer these effects, emphasizing the need to assess both physical and chemical MP aspects in wastewater systems. Consequently, attached growth and granular systems are recommended over suspended growth configurations for leachate treatment, owing to their superior resilience to toxic shock and enhanced retention capabilities.補正完畢US
