A total of four thousand (4000) questionnaire copies were administered to youths and 99 % copies were retrieved from respondents. Twenty field assistants were engaged for three weeks for the exercise and face to face survey approach was adopted. Deposit Money Banks-Based-Financial Inclusion and Economic Growth in Nigeria: The Role of a Dual Folded Proxy
Access to finance and financial services have made deposits money bank (DMBS)- enhanced financial inclusion a recent hotspot for either empirical or theoretical research explorations or both. Since FIcn is basically designed to link the unbanked and 'misbanked' to DMB services and products, integrating DMB and FIcn services to form comprehensive and composite index for FIcn would not only improve the empirical validity or performance of the surrogates, but also enlarge the impact base of such metrics. Hence, this study innovatively introduced the non-scarcity of DMB services as mechanism through which FIcn can be transmitted to the financially unreached and disadvantaged segment of the economy. This study seeks to explore the role and importance of DMBs in appropriately including the financially excluded economic agents in the trajectory of FIcn; and to critically evaluate the potency of DMB-based FIcn proxies and surrogates on growth. These surrogates are dual-folded proxies that integrated DMB services into the definition of FIcn to reflect comprehensive dimensional indices such as DMBs- FIcn service penetration, DMBs-FIcn service non-scarcity, DMBs- FIcn service usage, DMBs[1]FIcn location and localisation of services and DMBs-FIcn affordability of services. The study employed diverse estimation techniques in the validation of the models. Results that emerged from the analysis indicated that: GDPP( GDP per capita) is a determinant of ATMp penetration, ownership, and usage in Nigeria in the short[1]run only; ATMp penetration, ownership, and usage only Granger-caused GDPP in the long-term; ATMp Granger-caused the spread of banks branches network in the long-run, while the spread of banks branches network Granger-caused ATMp in the short-run( a confirmation of non-sustainable and ephemeral impact)
Geospatial Analysis of Snakebite Hotspots in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, Nigeria
Snakebite is a health problem to persons in agrarian rural environments, and Langtang North Local Government Area is not an exception. A total of 861 reported cases of snakebite incidence were recorded in Langtang North Local Government Area, Plateau State from 2007 to 2019. However, agriculturalists and other fieldworkers have been reported to be at higher risk of snakebite globally. The present study objective is to map the snakebite hotspots within the study area, using Getis-Ord statistics to determine the snakebite hotspots in ArcGIS version 10.1. From the result of hospital records, it can be concluded that the highest number of snakebites incidence was recorded in 2017 with 117 cases, followed by 2008 and 2018 with 109 cases each. The lowest was recorded in 2014 with 33 cases of snakebites. The result of the study showed that Zamko ward with GiZScore of 2.57841 and a small GiPValue of 0.009926 and Nyer ward with GiZScore of 2.776195 and GiPValue of 0.0055 had the most significant hotspot, followed by Mban ward with GiZScore of 2.155089 and lower GiPValue of 0.031155. Kwallak, Kuffen A and Tabat shaded in blue indicating cold spots, due to their negative GiZScores and low GiPValues. Finally, the study recommended that more anti-Snake Venom Centre or hospital should be provided within each ward
Migration Pattern and Poverty: A Spatio-Temporal Study in Selected Parts of Katsina State
This study examined and analyzed migration pattern in some parts of Katsina State with a view of investigating the characteristics of people involved and the pattern and trends of migration and analyzed the causes and factors responsible for migration in the area. The number of rural populaces in the state that migrate to cities with high hopes of overcoming poverty is unprecedented. Purposive sampling was used in which only those affected by frequent migration were involved, 80 questionnaire were administered in the 12 wards that were selected systematically according to the inventory and population of the wards in the L.G.A, in which 10 questionnaires were administered in each of the four wards located outside the city and 5 in each of the other 8 wards selected. The data generated were analyzed, described, interpreted and summarized using descriptive statistic. The result of this study reveals that the categories of people involved are youth; however, female only migrated as a result of marriage and visitation or other forms of temporary movement, thus most of the motives for the movements of youth are economic in searched of greener pasture. Again, the nature and period of migration of the respondents is seasonal. The geographic pattern of migration in this area is rural[1]urban migration pattern and the trends are fluctuating toward rural direction with slight increase and decrease and it indicates higher inclination toward urban direction. The study recommends the need for government to expand employment opportunities in the rural areas by investing more in small scale and medium scale labor intensive industries.
