Purpose: The hospitality and tourism industry is a vital sector in Indonesia, significantly contributing to the country's economy. East Java is the province with the second-largest number of hotel buildings in all of Indonesia. The largest hotel star category in both Indonesia and East Java, particularly in Surabaya, the capital of East Java, is a three-star hotel. The tight competition in the hospitality industry, especially among the hotels themselves, makes business actors in this industry need to think about ways to survive. A key factor that enables a company to survive in a highly competitive industry is a competitive advantage. This study aims to investigate the impact of market orientation and strategic flexibility on a firm's competitive advantage, as measured by its performance. The study was conducted on three-, four-, and five-star hotels in Surabaya. Method: Research data were obtained through the distribution of questionnaires to owners or managers of three-, four-, and five-star hotels in Surabaya. A total of 110 responses were used as research data and processed using SEM-PLS data processing techniques. Result: The study's results showed that the market orientation variable had an impact on strategic flexibility and competitive advantage, but did not affect firm performance. The strategic flexibility variable was found to affect firm performance and competitive advantage. Firm performance was also found to have a significant effect on competitive advantage

China and Protectionism in Advanced Manufacturing: Why It is Prioritised and How It is Done

This study offered critical reinterpretation of China’s protectionist trade policies within its advanced manufacturing sector, focusing specifically on the development of the solar photovoltaic panels, electric vehicles, and lithium-ion batteries. By moving beyond normative justification for protectionism, the analysis employed the Infant Industry Argument as a solid theoretical lens to dissect the strategic rationale, institutional mechanisms, and specific policy instruments underpinning this state-driven initiative. The research employed a qualitative, case-study methodology, drawing on historical data from official government policy documents, industry reports, and numerous academic articles. The findings demonstrated that China’s success in practicing protectionist policies on its advanced manufacturing sectors stemmed not from passive or indefinite protection but from a dynamic and unique policy architecture. Its model strategically employed initial, timely-bounded subsidies and tariffs with the active promotion of market competition and clear performance benchmarks. This approach compelled firms to innovate and achieve economies of scale. Furthermore, the protection was deliberately made to be phased out, adapting industrial maturity through gradual liberalisation. Consequently, this strategy fostered globally competitive industrial champions, thereby avoiding the technological stagnation and market distortion in historical cases. This study concluded that China’s trajectory redefined the IIA as sophisticated governance strategy where protection was inherently conditional, competitive, and transitional, demonstrating its significant efficacy

Government Regulation Number 58 Year 2023 was passed by the President with the aim of improving efficiency, fairness, and simplification in the taxation system. This regulation changes the mechanism for calculating Income Tax Article 21 by introducing the concept of Average Effective Rate, which comes into effect on January 1, 2024. This study aims to determine the difference in the amount of Income Tax Article 21 before and after the implementation of Government Regulation Number 58 Year 2023. The method used is a qualitative method with a legislative and comparative approach, and is accompanied by calculation simulations of three data sets. The results show that the amount of Income Tax Article 21 deducted based on the calculation in accordance with Government Regulation 58 Year 2023 tends to be greater than the previous calculation. However, this change in mechanism does not affect the total Income Tax Article 21 for one fiscal year, as the annual calculation still uses the same method as before. This change actually has an impact on the amount of tax paid by personal taxpayers in the Annual Tax Return

Abstract—Hate speech has had many negative impacts in Indonesia, such as riots, physical and verbal altercations, divisions in society, and many more. Social media is the place to spread hate speech most quickly. Not only through text posts, It is quite common to find hate speech in the form of videos. In this research, researchers will create a model that applies machine learning models to detect hate speech in videos, where currently most machine learning models are used to detect hate speech in text form only. In its application, the model will convert the input video into text using Google API. Then classification will be carried out using KNN to classify whether the video is hate speech or not, and Naive Bayes to classify the context of the video. In an unbalanced dataset, the classification results obtained for hate speech classification were 74% and for video context classification the accuracy was 45%. In a balanced dataset but overfitting occurs, the accuracy obtained in hate speech classification is 93% and in video context classification the accuracy is 55%. Based on the test results, it was found that the model used can have good accuracy if the dataset used is balanced between labels and there is no overfitting on the labels. Full text link
Purpose: This study examined the optimization of a stochastic sustainable closed-loop supply chain network for multi-product, single-period operations in a beverage company in Benin City, Nigeria, with a focus on five beverage products (Coke, Fanta, Sprite, Big Cola, and Eva). Method: The research employed a scenario-based stochastic mixed integer linear programming (SMILP) modeling approach to address demand uncertainties while minimizing costs and environmental impact. The network integrates forward and reverse logistics, including manufacturing, warehousing, retailing, disposal, recycling, recovery, redistribution, and remanufacturing stages. Result: Key findings reveal optimal product allocation scenarios for each product, demonstrating significant cost savings through remanufacturing and recycling. For instance, 94-100% of PET bottles were recovered and reused, reducing reliance on virgin materials and lowering production costs. The total environmental impact was quantified at 481,360 kg of CO₂, with variations across products due to differences in recycling efficiency and reverse logistics costs. The total network cost was optimized to N144,315,000, balancing economic and sustainability objectives. The study highlights the viability of closed-loop supply chains in emerging markets, emphasizing the role of stochastic optimization in managing demand variability. Practical implications include strategies for enhancing resource efficiency, reducing waste, and improving circular economy practices in the beverage industry
