    Replayability in Roguelike Games

    No full text
Over the past ten years the roguelike genre has become one the most popular genres on the indie gaming market. This can partially be attributed to the rising number of indie developers that have decided to develop roguelike games. Thanks to its high flexibility in regards to game design the roguelike genre is especially attractive to small developer teams and solo developers that only have access to a limited amount of resources. There are however certain aspects of roguelike development that lead to special challenges. One of those aspects is replayability. Roguelike games require a high degree of replayability because of their run-based gameplay. This master's thesis takes a look at the role of replayability in roguelike games and its impact on the game design. In order to understand which game design elements are used by developers to increase the replayability of roguelike games, firstly relevant aspects of video games in relation to replayability are explained through a literary analysis. These aspects are then used to analyze four roguelike games. The game design elements that are identified during the game analyses are finally used to create a guide for replayability in roguelike games

The influence of labels on the front of In vitro chicken meat packaging on the choice behavior of German consumers

    Get PDF
In vitro meat presents a promising alternative to conventional meat production by addressing environmental and animal welfare concerns. However, broader market adoption depends on increasing consumer acceptance. Labels on product packaging have been shown to be effective in influencing consumer behavior in previous studies. This paper examines the impact of different front-of-package labels on German consumers’ choices regarding in vitro chicken meat, with the goal of identifying effective labeling strategies. To investigate this, an online choice experiment was conducted with 200 participants from Germany. In addition to the label, products varied in terms of price, origin, and calorie content. The data were analyzed using latent class analysis, which identified four distinct consumer segments characterized by their preferences, attitudes, and personal characteristics. The results were used to simulate market scenarios, evaluating the effectiveness of different labeling strategies for in vitro chicken meat. These insights provide a foundation for targeted marketing approaches that promote consumer acceptance and inform the introduction of in vitro meat products in Germany.

    Get PDF

    Get PDF

Performance of PBS materials with degradable additives for food packaging

    No full text
This study evaluates the physicochemical, mechanical, thermal and morphological properties of PolyButylene Succinate (PBS)-based bioplastics reinforced with degradable additives for food packaging applications. Water uptake tests revealed increased hydrolytic degradation at higher temperatures, particularly in ethanol-based simulants (from D = 0.0422∙108 cm2/s at 4 °C to 3.3491∙108 cm2/s at 40 °C). Migration tests confirmed compliance with EU regulations in acetic acid but some limitations to its suitability for alcoholic solutions, due to the overcome of overall migration limits (10 mg/dm2). Specific migration of metal species was below EU limits, especially Co (<0.005 mg/kg) and Cr (0.0004 mg/kg), but is worthy of attention for packaging surface design. Mechanical analysis showed changes in the properties of the specimens after treatment, such as a slight increase in brittleness after exposure to acetic acid, coupled with a small increase in Young's modulus from 1.46 GPa to 1.65 GP, and a significant reduction in strain at break of about 37 % in ethanol-treated specimens, as also evidenced by the surface degradation shown by SEM analysis. FTIR-ATR analysis after treatments in ethanol and acetic acid solutions evidenced only few changes in main polymer chain, due to some limited hydrolysis of the PBS chain. Apparently, additives are mainly affected by the soaking in solutions, namely in the case of ethanol 50 % treatment at low temperature. DSC confirmed additive interactions and structural modifications. The results suggest that PBS-based materials are viable for food products with a pH < 4.5 under refrigerated conditions but require formulation adjustments for broader applicability.PeerReviewe

    Get PDF
This bachelor’s thesis develops a concept for the deployment of an existing, cost-effective robot specifically optimized for rescue operations in earthquake-affected areas. The focus lies on the reliable detection of victims trapped under unstable and hazardous debris using integrated visual sensor technology. This approach complements traditional rescue methods and aims to reduce response times while significantly increasing the survival chances of those affected. As part of this work, the necessary technologies are analyzed, the sensors are programmed, a communication infrastructure is established, and an AI model is developed to support visual detection. Finally, the entire system is tested to evaluate its reliability

Acceptance, usability, and emotions : an extension of the UTAUT designed for AI virtual assistants in the context of housing modernization

    No full text
The integration of AI virtual assistants (AIVAs) into daily life raises critical questions about acceptance, usability, and emotional reactions. This paper explores these constructs within the context of the German state-funded KIMM project, which investigates the use of AIVAs to support the modernization of rental housing stock. To better understand users' interactions with AIVAs, we propose an extension of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT), incorporating usability, valence, and arousal as aspects of technology acceptance. To validate our proposed model, termed Usability-Valence-Arousal-UTAUT (UVA-UTAUT), we present a study design that combines explicit measures of usability and acceptance with implicit emotion recognition techniques. The findings are expected to contribute to the fields of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Affective Computing, and Psychology by offering a deeper understanding of how emotional states and usability influence the acceptance of AIVAs. Further exploration of the model is encouraged and future research directions are outlined.PeerReviewe

Modelling and analysis of self-adaptive systems using petri nets : a robot kitchen case study

    No full text
Current cyber-physical systems (CPS) consist of connected sub-systems. Recently, flexibility and adaptivity gain more and more attention in application areas, e.g. in the smart factory context. Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) are used to model CPS sub-systems and their interaction. Recent research focuses on the self-organization of these CPS-MAS. In MAS the concept of an organization (and consequently that of self-organization) is a research topic on its own. Within our research, we address the modeling and the analysis of these self-organizing MAS-Organizations. As part of this paper, we demonstrate the usefulness of formal modeling techniques (here: high-level Petri Nets) to obtain qualitative and quantitative insights. Here, a robot kitchen is used as a metaphor for a flexible production scenario: We have recipes as production jobs, cooking robots with tools as interacting CPS, a conveyor belt as a transportation system for the dishes under preparation and so on. The scenario provides several sources of adaptivity: the robot cooks may decide to change the priority of jobs due to changing external signals (prices); the kitchen may run out of stock; a specialized robot may become a bottleneck and other robots change their tools to support it. Our model is implemented in RENEW, an interactive Petri net simulator that supports nets-within-nets, which is a formalism defined to support self-modification in a direct manner. The graphical model deepens the understanding of the application domain (the real world) among the project partners; the formal model allows for qualitative analysis, for example the absence of deadlocks, as well as quantitative aspects like finishing time and throughput.PeerReviewe
