This study investigates the impact of disaster mitigation spending on poverty reduction through economic growth in Aceh Province. The study employs panel data regression analysis using EViews software, with data collected from 23 districts/cities in Aceh Province from 2011–2023. The analysis applies three-panel data approaches: the Common Effects Model, Fixed Effects Model, and Random Effects Model (REM), with model selection conducted using the Chow test, Hausman test, and Lagrange Multiplier test. The results identify the Random Effects Model (REM) as the most suitable for this analysis. The findings reveal that natural disasters significantly disrupt economic activities, leading to property damage and higher poverty levels. Disaster mitigation spending is critical in reducing unemployment and poverty while fostering economic recovery. Additionally, the study confirms that economic growth serves as a mediator between disaster mitigation spending and poverty reduction, demonstrating its importance in addressing socio-economic challenges. These results emphasize the need for effective and well-targeted budget allocation for disaster mitigation programs to minimize economic disruption, enhance recovery efforts, and improve community welfare. The study’s policy recommendations encourage local and national governments to prioritize disaster mitigation initiatives and economic growth strategies that strengthen community resilience. By doing so, Aceh Province can better respond to future disaster threats, ensuring sustainable economic stability and poverty reduction

An Investigation of Work Stress among Malaysian Seafarers during the Endemic

The shipping industry contributes more than 95% of global trade and plays an important role in global economic growth. Besides its importance, seafaring is also known as a stressful occupation. They are exposed to more stressful work lives, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, and its impacts prolong the endemic phase. However, minimal attention has been paid to surveying the level of work stress, particularly among Malaysian seafarers. This cross-sectional study has surveyed work stress among 390 Malaysian seafarers using nonproportionate random sampling. Online questionnaires in Google Forms with an appended consent form were distributed to the respondents by an appointed representative. The online questionnaire comprised demographics and the Malay version of the Job Stress Scale (JSS). Data was collected in approximately four weeks and analysed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the level of work stress among seafarers was at a moderate level overall and for each subscale. This study contributes to more understanding about stress especially work stress among seafarers and how COVID-19 impacts their level of work stress. Further study is highly recommended to confirm its relationship with other related factors

Examining the Effect of Investment, Zakat and Poverty on Economic Growth in Indonesia: A Moderation Analysis

Economic growth denotes a sustained increase in a nation\u27s production of goods and services, functioning as a crucial indicator of economic vitality and advancement. This phenomenon reflects improved living standards, such as elevated income levels and enhanced prosperity. This study investigates the moderating role of investment and zakat in the relationship between poverty and economic growth. Utilising annual panel data from 30 provinces from 2018-2022, this study employs Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) to examine how zakat influences this relationship. This analysis aims to determine whether zakat amplifies or diminishes the impact of poverty on economic growth. The findings reveal that domestic and foreign investment has distinct effects on economic growth with varying impacts across different contexts. Poverty was found to have a significant negative effect on economic growth, underscoring the importance of addressing poverty in fostering sustainable development. Zakat demonstrated a significant negative moderating effect on the relationship between poverty and economic growth. This suggests that, under current management practices, zakat may not be as effective in alleviating poverty or supporting growth as intended. Based on these results, this study recommends improving zakat management in Indonesia, highlighting its potential to play a more substantial role in poverty reduction and economic development. Strengthening the administration and distribution of zakat could enhance its effectiveness in promoting equitable growth and reducing poverty, ultimately contributing to a more inclusive and prosperous economy

The Keujreun Blang customary institution aims to oversee rice field management following local wisdom, considering Aceh\u27s farming communities\u27 social and cultural values. Given its importance, it is crucial to recognize and understand the institution\u27s position and role within the broader societal context. This study employs an ethnographic descriptive approach, drawing upon previous research, to comprehensively analyze the subject matter. The findings revealed that the Blang customary institution serves as a traditional entity responsible for managing rice cultivation practices. It is led by prominent figures well-versed in agricultural philosophy and deeply rooted in Aceh\u27s local wisdom, values, and cultural heritage. The institution\u27s responsibilities encompass the entire agricultural cycle, from planting to harvesting. Despite the institution\u27s formal establishment, Acehnese farmers remain strongly influenced by the customary and cultural values associated with rice cultivation, which are considered integral to their heritage and must be preserved. Given the significance of these traditional institutions in maintaining cultural continuity and agricultural practices, it is imperative to integrate them into public policy frameworks systematically. This integration should be implemented consistently to preserve local wisdom and effective rice cultivation management in Aceh. By doing so, policymakers can balance modern agricultural practices, and the rich cultural heritage embodied in the Keujreun Blang customary institution

The Effect of Organizational Readiness and Top Management Support on Supply Chain Management Performance: The Mediating Role of Accounting Information Systems

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are crucial to the economies of developing countries like Indonesia, demonstrating resilience during economic challenges such as the 1998 financial crisis. This study investigates how organizational readiness and top management support affect supply chain management performance in MSMEs, with the success of accounting information systems as a mediating factor. Using purposive sampling and G*Power software, 178 MSMEs from diverse sectors were analyzed via Partial Least Squares (PLS). Results show that organizational readiness and top management support significantly impact supply chain management performance and the success of accounting information systems in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. However, accounting information system success does not mediate the relationship between organizational readiness, top management support, and supply chain management performance. This indicates that other factors might serve as critical mediators. To improve supply chain management performance, MSMEs should enhance organizational readiness and secure top management support. Future research should investigate alternative mediators, such as technology or innovation, and include studies across various sectors for broader insights

Although still below the global average, Indonesia Human Development Index is increasing annually. The HDI of provinces in Indonesia also exhibited an upward trend. Fiscal capacity, government spending, and inflation are subject to continuous fluctuation. Consequently, this study aims to analyze the effects of regional fiscal capacity, government spending, and inflation on Indonesia\u27s Human Development Index in both short and long terms. Secondary quantitative data were also used in this study. This study employs panel data obtained from the Ministry of Finance and Central Bureau of Statistics, focusing on 33 Indonesian provinces. The data used for this study comprised 594 observations, which were analyzed using the ARDL method. The results indicate that the fiscal capacity variable positively affects the Human Development Index in the short run but has no effect in the long run. The government expenditure variable does not affect the Human Development Index in the short term but exhibits a positive effect in the long term. Conversely, the inflation variable negatively affects the Human Development Index in the short term but positively affects it in the long term. The Indonesian government should implement more intensive policies to improve its HDI. This includes utilizing fiscal space with a budget that prioritizes education, health, economic improvement, and maintaining inflation stability to enhance people\u27s welfare as an indicator of the HDI calculation. Researchers in the same field should consider incorporating additional variables and employing a larger sample size to produce more comprehensive, in-depth research and clearer results regarding the Human Development Index in Indonesia
