Loneliness in Carson Mcculler’s The Heart is a Lonely Hunter

    Get PDF
As the novel The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter, it is a darker, more terrifying drama of isolation and despair. The novel through its characterization of Mick and Portia, can be seen as a critique towards certain intersecting power structures of the 1930s South, and by that demonstrate the crucial need of inter sectionality theory when examining those power structures in the characterization of the two characters. With my account of previous research on both Carson McCullers’ works in general, and her novel The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter more specifically, I have found that the novel has been read both as political and also as a text concerned with the social and political issues of its time. The major characters as well as the minor characters are greatly influenced by their past, their families, and people they met. Both primary socialization and secondary socialization spell out the future of their lives. Their isolation, resentment, bitterness, rebelliousness or meekness are caused according to Durkheim by many factors such as the material and non material social facts such as society, environment, church, state, morality, collective conscience, collective representation and social currents

Coverage Issues in Wireless Ad-Hoc Sensor Networks

    Get PDF
Wireless Ad-Hoc sensor networks have a broad range of applications in the military, vigilance, environment monitoring, and healthcare fields. Coverage of the sensor networks describes how well an area is monitored. The coverage problem has been studied extensively, especially when combined with connectivity and well-organized. Coverage is a typical problem in the wireless sensor networks to fulfil issued sensing tasks. In general, sensing analysis represents how well an area is monitored by sensors. The quality of the sensor network can be reflected by levels of coverage and connectivity that it offers. The coverage issues have been studied extensively, especially when combined with connectivity and energy efficiency. Constructing a connected fully covered, and energy efficient sensor network is valuable for real world applications due to limited resources of sensor nodes. The survey recent contributions addressing energy efficient coverage problems in the context of static WASNs, networks in which sensor nodes do not move once they are deployed and present in some detail of the algorithms, assumptions, and results. A comprehensive comparison among these approaches is given from perspective of design objectives, assumptions, algorithm attributes and related results

Profit Analysis of a Warm Standby Non-Identical Units System with Single Server Subject to Priority

    Get PDF
The present paper deals with the profit analysis of a warm standby non-identical (one is main unit another is duplicate unit) units system with single server. The model consists of two non-identical units –one is operative and the other kept as warm standby and one unit is sufficient to make the system in operative mode. The main unit may fail directly from normal mode and the warm standby unit can fail owing to remain unused for a longer period of time. There is a single server, who gives priority to repair of the main unit over the repair of the duplicate unit. The time is taken to repair activity by the server follows negative exponential distribution whereas the distributions of unit are taken as arbitrary with different probability density functions. The expressions of various efficiency measures are analyzed in steady state using semi-Markov process and regenerative point technique. Also, taking the arbitrary values for the parameters (i.e. ?, µ, ? and ?) to delineate the behavior of some important performance measures to check the efficacy of the system model under such situations shown in the graphs

Effective and Efficient Algorithms for Concise Range Queries

    Get PDF
With the advance of wireless communication technology, it is quite common for people to view maps or get related services from the handheld devices, such as mobile phones and PDAs. Range queries, as one of the most commonly used tools, are often posed by the users to retrieve needful information from a spatial database. However, due to the limits of communication bandwidth and hardware power of handheld devices, displaying all the results of a range query on a handheld device is neither communication efficient nor informative to the users. This is simply because that there are often too many results returned from a range query. In view of this problem, we present a novel idea that a concise representation of a specified size for the range query results, while incurring minimal information loss, shall be computed and returned to the user. Such a concise range query not only reduces communication costs, but also offers better usability to the users, providing an opportunity for interactive exploration. The usefulness of the concise range queries is confirmed by comparing it with other possible alternatives, such as sampling and clustering. Unfortunately, we prove that finding the optimal representation with minimum information loss is an NP-hard problem. Therefore, we propose several effective and nontrivial algorithms to find a good approximate result. Extensive experiments on real-world data have demonstrated the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed techniques

Semi Supervised Video Object Mining Framework to Multiple Object Extraction

    Get PDF
Video mining using combination of supervised and unsupervised learning techniques has created an arc in multimedia data mining. With this binding (usual & unusual mining) technique, today we can get accurate results in multimedia applications. This blend takes away the formal techniques that were used in video mining. Though video mining in general it is purely unusual mining, there exists some complex computational work by all means. Hence this work first compares the efficiency in video mining between unsupervised and semi-supervised learning techniques and then proposing a model or framework for multiple object extraction. In Multimedia Mining multiple object extraction is one of the challenging areas. This is because it contains more critical issues and it is a complex task when it comes to dynamic applications. Hence an attempt is made with some assumptions to extract multiple objects using semi supervised learning techniques. This proposed model blends semi supervised learning techniques and multiple object extraction with necessary compression and decompression methods in a simple way as an initial step to address the two challenging areas of video mining

Automatic Solar Tracking System and Fault Detection Using Wireless Technology

    Get PDF
Renewable energy solutions are becoming increasingly popular. Photovoltaic (solar) systems are but one example. Maximizing power output from a solar system is desirable to increase efficiency. In order to maximize power output from the solar panels, one needs to keep the panels aligned with the sun. As such, a means of tracking the sun is required. This is a far more cost effective solution than purchasing additional solar panels. It has been estimated that the yield from solar panels can be increased by 30 to 60 percent by utilizing a tracking system instead of a stationary array [1]. This project develops an automatic tracking system which will keep the solar panels aligned with the sun in order to maximize efficiency. In this paper we proposed automatic solar tracking system and fault detection using wireless technology as a key to the new era

    Get PDF
The thin films of Pt and Zn were coated with on the electrode in the board. Thin films of Pt are fabricated by ion plasma and Zn is manufactured by DC sputtering methods. Then the deposited boards were produced by ultrasonic chemical deposition in 0.01M aqueous solution of C6H12N4 and Zn(NO3)2?6H2O. To make the Zinc oxide, prepared-substrates were annealed at 600? for 1h and analysis on response characteristics of ZnO-structured sensors are tested for Methane gas. In the experiments, the concentration of Methane gas was used from 15% to 40% LEL. We measured the change of the voltage before and after the Methane gas injections, it was judged whether it had a suitable performance as the Methane gas sensors. As a result of the sensitivity of the fabricated sensor, it was confirmed that the voltage increases according to the Methane concentration. The sensitivity of the sensor was constantly increase so the graph showed a linear shape. Also, the fabricated sensors showed a very short stabilization time, fast reaction and recovery. As a result, the using possibility of the detector is suggested in the industrial facilities

Parallelism between Advaitic Metaphysics and Quantum Mechanics to Reveal the Unity Immanent in the Entire Creation

Physical Sciences carry out their investigations to expand the domain of knowledge, vision and make human life comfortable; on the other side Philosophy, in Indian context, strives to seek knowledge in order to elevate the state of Human Consciousness. Both Philosophy and Physical Sciences are the intellectual activities to seek the nature of Reality. The in-depth analysis ofMatter, since ages, have finally resulted in the denial of Matter with the emergence of Quantum Physics.Quantum mechanics has revealed the wave nature of Universe and now it is accepted that universe is neither a material body nor it has material structure. Matter is the most condensed state of energy. Universe is the flow of energy as Waves in different directions. TheWave is not an individuated entity separable from medium but a pattern imposed upon the activity of medium.Physics explains the duality and mutual conversion of Matter and Energy with the help of massless God’s Particle, likewise Metaphysics of Advaitic Vedanta counters the duality of Consciousness and energy with its Doctrine of Maya. The doctrine of Maya harmonises all contradictions regarding eternity and non – eternity, unity and diversity, determinacy and indeterminacy, reality and appearance. We find a sort of conformity in the Theories of Contemporary Quantum Physicists such as ‘Veiled Reality and Hypercosmic God’ and ‘Holomovement and Implicate Order’, with that of the Advaitic Metaphysics of ‘Pure Conscious and Entirely Blissful Brahma’ and ‘Maya’ respectively in revealing the interconnectedness and inseparability lying beneath the diverse and fragmented appearance of World
