    Patients Operated By Female Surgeons Have Lower Risk-Adjusted Adverse Postoperative Outcomes

            Surgery is the modality of treatment whereby injury, deformity or disease is managed by removal, repair or readjustment of the tissue or organs. One may have to incise and cut open the body cavity to remove or repair the diseased organ. Surgical branches attract the doctors right from their student life. It requires deep knowledge, surgical skill, decision power, and determined mind to handle the complications. In modern era it has been observed that gender ratio in the medical college admissions is shifting more towards female candidates compared to male. Few decades back gynaecology was the preferred branch of medicine for female doctors to pursue their further post graduate studies. In modern times with changing social scenario, we see female doctors in other surgical branches like ENT, ophthalmology, general surgery and even orthopaedics! As our institute is a teaching hospital to affiliated a medical college in outskirt of Baroda city draining vast surrounding peripheral areas and serves to provide free of cost maternal and child health services under various govt maternal and child health schemes, labour rate in our hospital whorls around 300 per month on an average. Unregistered and complicated emergency patients referred from peripheral referral units constitute a sizeable bulk of patients . On average 8 to 10 major and 10 to 12 minor surgeries are performed in our hospital. Post graduate admissions fetch good number of female doctors to the hospital for training.  In view of good no of operable patients and a decent ratio of male and female doctors we were inspired to carry out this study.         In view of the changing trends a study was carried out at Dhiraj hospital to determine the surgeon’s gender based post operative outcome of surgery in patients operated by male and female surgeons. It was observed that the patients operated by female surgeons had lower risk adjusted adverse post operative outcomes considering mortality, readmissions and complications.&nbsp

    Insects Associated With The Medicinally Important Plants Used By The Tai Khamyang Tribe Of Titabar, Assam

    A small, very small Assamese community group known as the Tai Khamyang or Shyam people live in the districts of Tinsukia, Jorhat, Sivasagar, and Golaghat in Assam, as well as certain nearby areas of Arunachal Pradesh. The villages where the Shyam people live, Balijaan Shyam Gaon, Na Shyam Gaon, and Betbari Shyam Gaon in Titabor in the Jorhat district, were chosen for the research. The people of rural areas are mostly economically unstable and dependent on medicines extracted from plants for the treatment of diseases, as it has almost no side effect. The curing capacity of the medicinal plants is also good. The survey was done to collect data by interaction with the local people and interviews were taken with the people of the area to get an idea about their food habits and uses of medicinal plants. Several new findings on traditional rural practices were reported. A total of 43 species of flower-visiting insects were reported associated with 26 species of medicinally important flowering plants used by the Shyam people. The flower-visiting insects unintentionally transfer the pollen grains from the anther to the stigma while nectaring, thus helping in pollination.     Background- Multidrug-resistance has become an emerging health concern worldwide mostly in the immune-compromised patients. This indicates the need to search for alternative methods of controlling antibiotic-resistant pathogens. Ethono-medicinal data indicated sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas), a widely consumed vegetable as a potent remedy in inflammatory and infectious diseases. The present study evaluated the phytochemical, antioxidant and anti-bacterial action of the ethanolic extract of Ipomoea batatas peels against some drug-resistant pathogens like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and anti-fungal action against Aspergilus niger responsible for most of the infections leading to the treatment failure. There is inflammation induced disorders like cardiovascular diseases, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes, etc. where the peels of Ipomoea batatas have very much potent anti-inflammatory activity. Methods- The peels of sweet potato were authenticated and macerated ethanolic extract was used for the Phytochemical analysis, antioxidant, in-vitro anti-inflammatory studies were performed. The antifungal activity was studied against Aspergilus niger and antimicrobial action was evaluated against two most commonly found resistant strains like Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. Results- The phytochemical analysis the ethanolic extract of the peels of Ipomoea batatas has shown the presence of alkaloid, glycoside, phenol and tannin. Antioxidant activity in terms of total phenolic & total flavonoid contents has shown a significantly good value, less than 50µg/ml. The anti-bacterial activity against two antibiotic resistant bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureous were prominently good with the MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) 25 mg/ml and for the fungal strain Aspergilus niger, the MIC was 50 mg/ml. The various in-vitro anti-inflammatory studies like heat induced haemolysis, protein denaturation study etc. have proved that the sweet potato leaves have potent anti-inflammatory activity with an IC50 value less than 400 µg/ml. Conclusion- The present study indicated the ethanolic extract of Ipomoea batatas peel can be beneficial to develop a cost-effective natural source of antimicrobial agent against drug resistant pathogen and also source of cure for various inflammation induced disorders. Further study will lead to a sustainable source in pharmaceutical industries also helpful to maintain an eco-friendly environment

    "Effectiveness Of Short Foot Exercise In Plantar Fasciitis": A Narrative Literative Review

    Introduction: The most frequent cause of heel discomfort is plantar fasciitis. Pain in the medial longitudinal arch of the foot is a frequent symptom of plantar fasciitis. Short foot exercises have been a widely utilized technique for enhancing postural stability and bolstering the plantar muscles. Objective: This narrative literature review aims to explore the effectiveness of short foot exercise in plantar fasciitis. Data sources: Between 2018 and 2023, the literature was gathered using medical database searches on MEDLINE, PEDro, PubMed, and Google Scholar. Review method: Selection criteria include the papers that affirm the role of the short foot exercises in plantar fasciitis. A total of 22 articles including Randomized control trials, longitudinal studies, case-controlled trials, and original studies in physiotherapy published in peer-reviewed publications, as well as full-text English language articles, were reviewed. Twelve studies were eligible for inclusion in this narrative review.  PEDro scoring was done for all the articles included in the review. Information is extracted from data using a technique called content analysis. Result: The main focus was on establishing a effectiveness of short foot exercises in plantar fasciitis. This review highlights the short foot exercises impact in plantar fasciitis. Abnormal alignment of foot, therapeutic approaches like toe raise and curl, toe splay, marble pickup, tennis ball roll reduced the pain and function in plantar fasciitis. Stabilization exercises, which increase balance, play a vital role in enhancing foot stability during plantar fasciitis treatment. Conclusion: This review discovered the vital involvement of the short foot exercises in both the prevention and treatment of plantar fasciitis, presenting opportunities for effective interventions and better patient results. Convenience follows closely behind, with 70% of respondents considering it important. Product variety and brand reputation also influence online purchasing behavior, with 65% and 60% of respondents respectively citing them as important factors.     The infection caused by Rubella virus is also known by the name of German measles. The number of birth defects might develop in the fetus of a rubella virus infected woman during the early stage of pregnancy. These defects are termed as congenital rubella syndrome (CRS).There is also possibility that the infection due to virus can lead to abortions. The study was conducted to find out the cases of CRS among the pregnant women. A combined vaccine against measles, mumps, and rubella was licensed for use for the first time in the year 1971 in the United States. The report from the data collected in the various studies have proved the rubella infection to be the cause for about 3-5 percent of all suspected CRS cases in India. A questionnaire was prepared and pregnant women as well as female of child-bearing age were asked about the rubella vaccination. In the research survey, more than 1000 females were involved in different areas and age-groups. It was concluded that very less or negligible data is available related to awareness about the routine immunization among the common people of India. Thus, it is required to conduct more research in this field and make people more and more aware about the harmful effects of not being vaccinated at the proper age. Indians need to collect reliable and accurate data to prioritize and tackle the serious consequences of CRS. &nbsp
