Background: In recent years, the prevalence of vegetarian and vegan diets has increased due to their associated health benefits. However, long-term avoidance of animal foods can lead to inadequate intake of essential nutrients like iron and vitamin B-12, critical for maintaining blood health. Iron deficiency is a widespread nutritional problem, especially in vegetarian diets, due to the reduced bioavailability of non-heme iron in plant foods. This study aimed to provide a detailed comparison of anemia frequency and other hematological parameters between vegetarian and omnivorous diets, thereby offering insights into the nutritional adequacy and health outcomes of these dietary habits. Methods: The study adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, utilizing a prospective cohort from the UK Biobank. Participants aged 40–69 years were investigated for anemia prevalence in vegetarian and omnivorous diets. Data collection included informed consent procedures, a touch-screen questionnaire addressing sociodemographic and lifestyle factors, and a computer-assisted personal interview. Blood samples were collected for complete blood cell counts and hematological assays. Statistical analysis involved linear regression models, adjusted for age, sex, menopausal status, and smoking status. Results: The study found that vegetarians and other low or non-meat eaters had slightly lower age-adjusted hemoglobin concentrations and were more likely to be anemic compared to regular meat eaters. However, a well-balanced vegetarian diet did not significantly differ in iron-deficiency anemia incidence compared to omnivores. The study also noted differences in white blood cell parameters and platelet characteristics between diet groups, suggesting potential differences in immune function. Conclusion: The research concluded that a well-planned vegetarian diet does not increase the risk of iron-deficiency anemia compared to omnivorous diets. The key is dietary quality and appropriate planning, ensuring sufficient iron intake to prevent deficiency and support overall health. The findings contribute to the discussion about the adequacy of vegetarian diets and their role in preventing chronic conditions

Mental health literacy is one factor that can affect children\u27s quality of life. This study aims to determine and compare the level of literacy and description of mental health in children who conflict with the law (CCL) in the province of Gorontalo, Indonesia. This study uses a mixed parallel method. The researcher collects qualitative and quantitative data using observation, in-depth interviews, document review, and a modified RI1 Mental Health Literacy Questionnaire. Informants are 21 children who conflict with the law (CCL)  in Gorontalo Province. The results on the level of mental health literacy showed that out of a total of 6 CCL perpetrators, three children were in the moderate category (50%), three children were in the less category (50%), and none had high literacy (0%). Meanwhile, of 15 CCL victims, 6 children were in the less category (40%), 8 were in the moderate category, and 1 child (7%) had high literacy. On average, the CCL perpetrator\u27s mental state is better than the CCL victim\u27s. CCL victims have the lowest score on cognitive ability, at 38%, and the highest on emotional ability, at 44%. CCL perpetrators have the lowest emotional ability at 34% and the highest cognitive ability at 41%. The legal process triggers stress, anxiety, poor sleeping and eating functions, communication disorders, and a drastic decrease in self-confidence. Providing a mental health literacy program can be a preventive measure to maintain mental health so they are ready to return to society

In addition the positive attitude was also found to be 77.5% and 77.8% towards preventive oral health and oral disease respectively. Whereas only 11.41% showed a positive attitude towards practising the preventive oral health, in contrast with oral disease showing 35.6% parents positive practise. Conclusions:  Parents had positive attitude on the need to conserve natural teeth for their children, but they lacked adequate knowledge regarding preventive oral health and oral disease. And also very low utilization of dental services in spite of positive attitude towards dental treatments

Determination of the Risk of Oil and Gas Offshore Pipelines in Indonesia: A Risk-Based Analysis Approach for Developing Inspection Strategy Policy

    Get PDF
Indonesia has a target of producing 1 million BOPD of oil and 12 BSCFD of natural gas in 2030. The strategy for achieving the production target in 2030 is transformation from resources to production, accelerating chemical EOR, massive connectivity for finding large wells, and optimizing field production. In optimizing existing field production, one of the supporting factors is production facilities, so production facilities with good integrity are needed to minimize upplanned shutdowns. One of the oil and gas installations that pose a high risk is the installation of oil and gas pipelines. The existing pipeline installation in the Java Sea, from North Cirebon to the Seribu Islands, has an area of 8300 km2 and is operated by PT XYZ. Therefore, it requires complete and accurate inspection data to find out. This research method uses a modification of the Kent Mulhbauer scoring index. The risk level of the three subsea pipelines at Company XYZ, namely 4 in Gas Line Mike Mike, 8 in Gas Line Echo pipeline, and 8 in Gas Line Mike Mike pipeline, is found to be in the very highrisk category. The inspection strategy carried out for the third pipe with a very high risk category is visual inspection (ROV), freespan assessment, cathodic protection check (CP), UT thickness inspection on the riser and elbow (topside and subsea), and UT thickness inspection on the bottom pipe sea using the NACE ICDA method for thickness taking points and inspection periods once every 4 years or based on risk-based inspection (RBI). The cost and effort of examining the strategy will be assessed directly with the level of the risk category. Because of this, so that the inspection of the strategy can be optimal, effective, and efficient, it is divided into 3 (three) risk categories, namely low, medium, and high/very high, where the selection of strategy inspection is appropriate with the level of risk. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in making a policy or regulation to carry out regular inspections of underwater pipelines by using the risk analysis method to determine the inspection strategy

Xenobiotic Detoxification in Insects: Regulatory Mechanisms and Evolutionary Roles of Cytochrome P450

    Get PDF
Insects have developed sophisticated defense mechanisms to survive in environments rich in xenobiotics, including plant allelochemicals and synthetic insecticides. A major component of their adaptive response is the cytochrome P450 monooxygenase (P450) enzyme system, which plays a central role in the detoxification of these compounds through oxidative metabolism. P450-mediated resistance involves multiple mechanisms, including gene overexpression, allelic variation, and substrate-specific catalytic activity. These enzymes are inducible by both phytochemicals and synthetic insecticides, often leading to cross-resistance. The evolutionary arms race between plants and herbivorous insects has driven diversification in P450 genes, especially in specialists like Papilio species and generalists such as Helicoverpa zea. Furthermore, the regulation of P450 expression is modulated by complex signaling pathways including the MAPK, ROS/CncC, and AhR/ARNT pathways, with transcription factors like CREB, CncC, and HR96 playing key roles. Understanding these regulatory mechanisms provides insight into how insects sense and respond to xenobiotic stress and offers promising targets for novel pest control strategies. This review highlights the metabolic and regulatory versatility of P450s, their economic importance in insecticide resistance, and underscores the need for further research into the molecular networks governing xenobiotic adaptation in insects

Effect Of Moringa oleifera On Fruit Infestation In Different Tomato Varieties Against Heliothis armigera

    Get PDF
Solanaceae family includes the flowering species Lycopersicon esculentum. This plant is commonly known as a tomato (10). Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and others are among the states in India that produce the most tomatoes (18). These states contribute about 90% of the nation\u27s tomato harvest. The tomato fruit borer, or Helicoverpa armigera, is a pest that damages tomatoes all over the country and feeds on over 15 different crops. 90% of the time, Helicoverpa damages fruit, causing up to 3.48% in economic losses. Fruit damage causes bacterial infection, which in turn causes surface deformation and rotting (11,15). Numerous biotic and abiotic obstacles have hindered tomato development. The usage of pesticides on fruits and vegetables has increased by 10–20% annually in India. Here, pesticides are more likely to have detrimental impacts on human health. In addition to damaging ground water, excessive use of chemical pesticides reduces soil fertility and eliminates soil microorganisms. Therefore, one alternate strategy to synthetic chemical management is integrated pest management, or IPM. During current experiment, five different tomato varieties Pusa Gaurav, Ratna, Arka Saurabh, Pant bahar and   Arka Abha were assessed based on fruit infestation against Heliothis armigera after different concentration of Moringa sprays. Ratna (1.33) variety of tomato is found to be most resistant against Heliothis armigera while Pant Bahar (1.66) is most susceptible
