A Comparative Analysis of Prime-Time News Coverage on Public and Private Channels During the 2022 Flash Floods in Balochistan
Balochistan is highly vulnerable to natural disasters due to its distinctive geographical features and socio-economic challenges. It was severely affected by the 2022 floods. This study conducts a comparative analysis of the portrayal of the 2022 flash floods in Balochistan, focusing on the prime-time news coverage provided by two major Pakistani television channels: the state-owned PTV News and the privately-owned Geo News. A mixed-method approach was employed, integrating both qualitative and quantitative content analysis of prime-time news bulletins broadcasted between June to September 2022. The study examines the frequency, duration, and thematic focus of flood-related news, the sources referenced, and the narrative frameworks utilized by the two channels. To support the data analysis, this study utilized the theoretical frameworks of Agenda setting and framing. Agenda setting was employed to assess the allocation of time and space dedicated to the news coverage, while framing was applied to examine the imagery, tone, and other elements shaping the thematic presentation within the news content. The findings indicate notable differences in coverage priorities and framing between PTV News and Geo News. PTV News primarily highlighted government-led relief operations and development initiatives, frequently showcasing official sources and institutional activities. In contrast, Geo News offered a broader spectrum of perspectives, emphasizing the severity of the disaster, the ensuing post-disaster crisis, and the voices of affected citizens, while critically addressing the shortcomings in the government's response

This PhD research study delves into the nature of ijtihad (independent legal reasoning) as employed by selected companions of the Prophet Muhammad to address contemporary issues. Ijtihad involves deriving rulings on matters not explicitly addressed in the Quran and Sunnah (the Prophet’s teachings). The study focuses on companions renowned for their expertise in ijtihad and their substantial contributions to Islamic jurisprudence. Utilizing a qualitative research design, the study examines primary sources such as the works of the companions themselves, accounts from their students, and commentaries by later scholars. It then contextualizes these ijtihads within contemporary challenges facing the Muslim world, including those related to gender, politics, human rights, and social justice. The analysis underscores the relevance and applicability of the companions’ ijtihads in addressing these modern concerns. This study contributes to Islamic Studies by offering a deeper understanding of the nature and significance of ijtihad within Islamic jurisprudence. The research critically assesses the effectiveness of international laws and humanitarian interventions, examining the roles of global entities such as the United Nations and the International Criminal Court in promoting accountability. By integrating these theoretical frameworks, the study proposes strategies to enhance human rights protections, improve accountability, and bolster global humanitarian efforts, ultimately aiming to contribute to a more comprehensive approach to safeguarding human rights in conflict areas
بیویوں کےمابین قسم : لسان الحکام فی معرفۃ الاحکام کی روشنی میں: Division Between Wives: In The Light of The Lisan ul Al-Hokaam Fi Ma'rifat Al-Ahkam
Islam stands as a harmonious faith, thoughtfully attuned to the intricacies of human psychology. It is not uncommon for scholars and observers from the East to raise concerns regarding the frequency of marriages in Islam, suggesting that it may inadvertently perpetuate gender oppression by permitting polygamy. Nevertheless, a closer examination reveals that this is not an avenue for oppression but rather a safeguard for modesty, with the very essence of marriage rooted in the preservation of virtue. The profound wisdom behind this allowance lies in the understanding that human desires can ebb and flow with changing circumstances, including variations in climate. In cases where these desires become overwhelming and there is no provision for a subsequent marriage, the question arises: why uphold the sanctity of modesty? Thus, Islam, emerging as a force to quell discord, vice, and societal turmoil, has extended the privilege of entering into up to four marriages simultaneously. It is crucial to underline that this permission comes with stringent conditions, articulated in the realm of Islamic jurisprudence as 'Qasam'
Impact of TV Viewing on Academic Performance of High School Students Aged 16-18 in Islamabad: A Survey Study (2024-2025)
The primary objective of this study was to explore the influence of television viewing on the academic performance of high school students. A sample of 100 students, comprising 50 boys and 50 girls, was selected using a stratified sampling method from two high schools in Islamabad. The study aimed to categorize students as either heavy or light television viewers based on their responses to a questionnaire. This questionnaire inquired about the amount of time spent watching television and the types of programs watched. The relationship between television viewing habits and academic performance was then analyzed by comparing the academic achievements of both groups. The results indicated that there was no significant difference in the academic performance of heavy and light television viewers. Whether students spent a considerable amount of time watching television or only a small amount did not seem to affect their academic results. This suggests that television viewing, in isolation, may not be a determining factor in academic success. Furthermore, the study found that other external factors, such as study habits, parental involvement, and socioeconomic background, could play a more substantial role in influencing students’ academic performance. Thus, the research emphasizes the need to consider multiple variables when examining the academic success of students, rather than attributing their performance solely to their television-watching habits. In conclusion, while television viewing remains a popular activity among students, it does not appear to have a significant impact on academic achievement, suggesting that other factors may have a more direct influence on student performance
