    Small-scale online sellers: Inputs for sustainable business strategy

    The emergence of online platforms has paved the way for many entrepreneurs to broaden their audience. In Naga City, online selling can be considered to be dominant in the e-commerce industry as more and more people try this venture. This study aims to look into the profile of the online sellers in Naga City, as well as the challenges they face in terms of personal, social, financial, regulatory, and technological aspects. Furthermore, it aims to identify the profile that influences these challenges. The study made use of descriptive-correlational research design method for comparative data analysis of key variables. 30 online sellers from Naga City participated in the survey. The gathered data were analyzed through frequency counts and percentage, weighted means, ranks, and chi square. The findings have revealed that majority of the respondents were female, high school graduate, has operating for 1-3 years, and started with a capital ranging from Php 10,000- Php 50,000. In terms of personal challenges, allotting enough personal time is the biggest problem. In terms of social, online sellers’ biggest challenge is the tight competition with others. In terms of financial, cash implication such as refund or loss going is the biggest issue. Not receiving help from the government and legal barriers on import or export are the biggest challenges in terms of regulatory, while technical issues with payment systems of online transactions is the hardest issue in terms of technological aspects. Findings have also revealed that age has an impact on personal and technological issues, suggesting that older sellers may have a harder time facing them. Furthermore, educational attainment has been revealed to have a significant impact on personal, social, and technological aspects, suggesting that sellers with higher education performs better in solving problems along these areas. The researchers highly advise the government to allot more help to online sellers as they are progressively rising

    CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS OF WORK-LIFE BALANCE AMONGST CAMEROON FEMALE INTERPRETERS

    The current research aims at investigating the challenges Cameroon female interpreters face in maintaining work-life balance.It is a sociological study of the challenges faced by female interpreters in maintaining work-life balance in an African context where they are equally expected to be devoted housewives, in addition to being career women.Most youths investing in this field may never know what the field holds for them as professionals are usually distant and only mirror the good side of things.Based on a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach, the study draws data from six (6) interviews and fifty (50) questionnaires. Findings revealed that Cameroon female interpreters face challenges related to family responsibilities, professional demands, health issues, disorganisation, financial constraints, job dissatisfaction, gender, stigmatisation, sexual harassment and incompetence. Results equally showed that the challenges faced across the three generations sampled are significantly similar by 88% and only different by 12%.  Somecoping strategiesto balance work and life are:defining priorities, having support systems, adopting healthy lifestyle, making consensus, sticking to values and beliefs, and investing in capacity building.

    Effectiveness of the city events, protocol, and public information office events management of LGU Naga

    This study aims to develop an enhanced events management framework for the City Events, Protocol, and Public Information Office (CEPPIO) of Naga City to optimize the efficiency and effectiveness of managing public events. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, the study gathered data from 42 respondents, comprising CEPPIO staff and stakeholders involved in event planning and management. It examines the existing practices and challenges in CEPPIO’s event management processes and their impact on operational success. Specifically, the study investigates four key areas: planning, coordination, implementation, and post-event evaluation, identifying the best practices currently employed. It also explores the logistical, financial, technological, and organizational challenges CEPPIO faces and analyses the relationship between the effectiveness of its events management practices and these challenges. Findings highlight the strengths of CEPPIO’s current practices, such as strategic coordination and structured planning, while also revealing critical barriers, including limited technological resources and logistical constraints. The study establishes a weak to no correlation between the effectiveness of CEPPIO's practices and the challenges encountered, underscoring the need for targeted improvements. Based on these insights, the proposed framework introduces actionable recommendations, including clarifying role assignments, enhancing staff capacity, strengthening coordination, and investing in modern communication tools. These recommendations aim to create a more adaptive and responsive event management process, ultimately enhancing public event outcomes for Naga City

    Enhancing translator employability in the artificial intelligence era

    This exploratory study investigates Enhancing Translator Employability in the Artificial Intelligence Era (AI). As AI, particularly through machine learning and neural networks, revolutionizes translation services, concerns have emerged regarding the future demand for human translators.The study sets out to assess perceptions of employability among trainee translators. Translators and employers in the Artificial Intelligence Era (AI) era, identify factors influencing these perceptions, and propose strategies for enhancing their employability. Employing a mixed-methods approach with 60 participants—comprising 40 ASTI trainees, 16 recent graduates, and 4 employers—the study examines perceptions of future career prospects, factors influencing these perceptions, and strategies for enhancing employability. The research draws on Skills-Mismatch Theory, Human Capital Theory, Career Adaptability Theory, and Job-Market Signaling Theory guiding our research and findings. Results highlight significant uncertainty among trainees, largely due to the rapid integration of AI tools in translation. However, the study also reveals opportunities for human translators to adopt AI as a complementary tool, emphasizing the importance of targeted training programs in technological proficiency and adaptive skills.The study provides actionable recommendations, including curriculum reforms to incorporate AI-focused training, industry-academia collaborations, and the promotion of lifelong learning to ensure translators remain competitive. These findings offer insights into the evolving translation market and guide educational institutions, policymakers, and industry stakeholders in preparing translators for an AI-enhanced professional landscape

    la pratique de l’interprétation auprès des tribunaux au Tchad

    Résumé :La présente étude pose le problème du rôle des interprètes auprès des tribunaux au Tchad et les défis auxquels ils sont confrontés. Elle opérationnalise ce problème en trois questions de recherche : Quels rôles jouent les interprètes auprès des tribunaux au Tchad ? A quels défis sont-ils confrontés ? Quelles mesures idoines permettraient de pallier les difficultés auxquelles font face les interprètes auprès des tribunaux au Tchad ? Pour répondre à ces questions, une approche mixte a été utilisée. Un questionnaire a été administré aux interprètes auprès des tribunaux, des entretiens ont été menés avec les magistrats, greffiers et avocats et des observations ont été effectuées aux tribunaux et Cour d’appel (Tchad). L’étude s’est adossée sur les travaux théoriques de (Bravo, 2019) sur la perception du rôle de l’interprète et le modèle de professionnalisation de l’interprétation de (Tseng, 1992). L’étude conclut que les interprètes auprès des tribunaux au Tchad sont des simples machines d’interprétation, des canaux passifs sans avoir une influence réelle sur la communication. L’étude a également révélé que l’interprétation auprès des tribunaux au Tchad est confrontée à un florilège de défis liés notamment à l’interprétation des termes techniques, l’attitude des accusés, les difficultés linguistiques, les difficultés liées à la procédure et le manque de professionnalisme. Par ailleurs, selon les résultats une connaissance préalable de l’affaire, une meilleure rémunération, une formation de base en droit, et si possible, en droits de l’Homme, une formation en interprétation ou tout simplement la professionnalisation du métier augurent des améliorations futures dans le domaine d’interprétation auprès des tribunaux au Tchad

    Educational intervention in the production of narrative texts for primary education students

    The aim of the present study is to investigate the degree of improvement in the writing of written narrative texts of students, with and without learning difficulties, after teaching the structural and linguistic elements of narrative that constitute the two levels of narrative, the macro- and micro-structure, respectively. 18 students of the third grade of a public primary school in Attica participated in the survey. Of the 18 students in the sample, 7 had a learning disorder or learning difficulties. The evaluation of the research subjects was conducted both before (pre-test) and after (post-test) the implementation of the educational intervention programme in order to determine its effectiveness. A variety of teaching methods and techniques and enriched multisensory materials were used to support the educational needs of all students. The evaluation of the produced narrative, initial and final, was based on the examination and co-evaluation of the structural and linguistic elements required for a coherently structured narrative. After the educational intervention, a comparison of pre-test and post-test results was conducted, which showed that all students, with and without learning difficulties, improved significantly in the production of narrative texts

    DEVELOPING THE ABILITY TO GAIN KNOWLEDGE AND COMMUNICATE THROUGH STEM EDUCATION: RESULTS FROM A PRACTICAL SURVEY

    This study investigates the current state of STEM education in high school Chemistry and its role in developing students' abilities to gain knowledge and communicate. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education integrates interdisciplinary approaches to enhance students' inquiry skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. The research, conducted through a survey of 82 Chemistry teachers, reveals that while educators recognize the value of STEM in fostering students' scientific exploration, challenges such as insufficient resources, time constraints, and a lack of professional development hinder effective implementation. Despite these barriers, teachers expressed strong support for STEM education and a desire for additional training and resources. The findings suggest that providing teachers with more resources, flexible teaching time, and targeted professional development would improve the integration of STEM in Chemistry education, thus fostering a deeper gaining knowledge and communication among students

    This article explores a family business negotiation involving a silent partnership in northeastern Brazil. The management and silent partners encountered a financial impasse in their real estate development project. They considered various options, such as selling a rural area or obtaining a bank loan, before ultimately negotiating a deal to dissolve the partnership. This negotiation challenged family harmony and the ability to reach a mutually beneficial agreement without disrupting family relations. The article concludes with a discussion and managerial recommendations

It is as a natural phenomenonthat contributes to the growth or failure of any business. If organization does not choose the right medium of communication to covey information or market its product, the firm may suffer low customer patronage and low profitability. Managers with communication skills are likely to protect the image of the company and improve productivity. Poor communication system may lead to mismanagement and low business output.This study disclosed that the progress of a firm comes from effective communication which is essential for the survival, profitability, and job satisfaction in the organization. Indeed, oorganizations should apply the appropriate channels of communication to transfer information to the receiver for the purpose of achieving organizational performance
