Racism and segregation against the Blacks in the Diaspora paves way for Africanfuturism as a concept coined by African, Nnedi Okorafor, to anticipate the future of Africans or the Blacks in the Diaspora. Previous studies focused on Afrofuturism and the theme of race, identity, and violence as a way to address racism. However, this study investigates reflective indices of Africanfuturism in Ibi Zoboi’s Nigeria Jones, as Africanfuturism work with the aim to restore lost identity and negotiate new identity as a means of survival in a strange land. It uses African history, African belief system and worldviews to restore the future of Africans in the Diaspora. Decolonial theory is used for this paper. The template of Ato Quayson and Ankhi Mukherjee’s Decolonial theory serves as the analytical tool for this study. This study reveals instances of African history in Ibi Zoboi’s Nigeria Jones such as Sankofa of the Akan people of Ghana, Malcom X’s struggles, and Mau Mau’s resistance. It also reveals African belief system such as Ubuntu, Uhuru, and the coming of the dead of African ancestors asa therapy to their people during the birthday of the child, Freedom Sankofa. African worldviews such as the concept of family in Africa, andnot forgetting one’s root are also depicted in this research. Diaspora literature can, thus, adopt African history, African belief system and world-views to anticipate a better future for Africans both at home and in the Diaspora

Determination of Aflatoxin Levels in Groundnuts: A Comparative Study between Domestic and Imported Seed Supplies in Libya

    Get PDF
The production of high-quality seeds presents a significant challenge for small-scale farmers in Libya. These farmers often face difficulties with storing their own seeds, encountering issues such as storage fungi and aflatoxin contamination. Aflatoxins, known to cause various human and animal health problems, are prevalent contaminants in groundnut seeds during storage, primarily produced by Aspergillusflavus and Aspergillusparasiticus fungi. This study compares aflatoxin levels between locally sourced and imported groundnut seeds. Samples were procured from the local market in Tripoli, Libya, and aflatoxins were extracted and identified using thin-layer chromatography (TLC) with Silica gel. The findings reveal higher aflatoxin levels in local samples compared to imported groundnut seeds. Various factors influence aflatoxin levels, and the detected levels surpass European Union standards. To address this, regulatory measures or awareness campaigns among local farmers are recommended to ensure quality and sustainability in groundnut cultivation in Libya

FIRST REPORT: MOLECULAR IDENTIFICATION OF THE CAUSES OF ANTHRACNOSE DISEASE IN RAMBUTAN FRUITS IN BALI

    Get PDF
Anthracnose disease on post-harvest rambutan fruit is often found in traditional markets as well as freshly picked and post-harvest fruit. The disease really interferes with the appearance of the fruit, the skin color of the fruit is black and is not good for use as offerings or consumption. Molecular search results found that a 650 bp DNA fragment was successfully amplified from 5 fungal samples using universal primers ITS1/ITS4. The DNA samples resulting from the amplification are then used for the sequencing stage to determine the fungal species. Sequencing analysis confirmed that the identity of the fungus in the sample was Colletotrichum fructicola with 68-100% homology to several C. fructicola isolates and out groups in the genebank. Further phylogenetic analysis showed that C. fructicola isolates formed three groups. The C. fructicola_Bali isolate formed a group with isolates from Taiwan. The second group consists of isolates from China, while the third group consists of isolates from Japan. Meanwhile, outside the cluster there are 3 species of Colletotrichum including C. siamense, C. musae, and C. gloeosporioides. As an outgroup isolate, the Lasiodiplodiatheobromae isolate originating from Indonesia was used

Implications of Floating Status on Employees

    Get PDF
Floating status is a prevalent problem among call centers and is the focus of this study. The fact that the Philippine Labor Code does not dwell on this issue is a challenge for managers of organizations involved. The objective of this study is to determine whether floating status as an uncertain employment condition is a moral prerogative of management or is an unlawful act to protect the business interest. Managers of every organization must be endowed with social responsibility, a mandate that leaders and managers must balance their concerns with their tasks and people. Successful managers are praised by the financial stakeholders and loved by their workers. Retrenchment also a tool for reduction may be a legal prerogative for management but the requirements set by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) must be complied with. Otherwise, retrenchment is not an option. Floating status is tantamount to dismissal. Alternative solutions for this type of case are discussed. These are (1) endorsement to other accounts (2) retrenchment; and lastly, (3) agreement to wait without a guarantee of being reinstated or immediate resignation. Retrenchment is the best answer for this type of problem, as it benefits both the company and the people who are displaced. All these processes of worker reduction result in the loss of jobs and income of workers. Separation pay is a must to provide support for displaced employees. In addition, this will give readers an idea of how the management of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) should consider things before making critical decisions

The study examined the effect of technology-enhanced competitive learning environment (TECLE) on the academic achievement and level of interest of students in junior secondary schools in Delta State. The study utilised a quasi-experimental design. This design commonly utilised two cohorts: one cohort received the intervention (TECLE), while the second cohort served as a control without access to the intervention. The study focused on a specific group of individuals, namely 174,570 public junior secondary two (JSII) students studying Information Technology in Delta State. The study's sample consisted of 382 students in six intact classes. Data gathering involved the utilisation of two instruments: Information Technology Achievement Test (ITAT) and Information Technology Interest Scale (ITIS). The instruments underwent face validation by three specialists. The reliability of ITAT was determined through the utilisation of the Kuder-Richardson 21 method, resulting in a reliability coefficient of 0.73. The reliability of ITIS was determined by the use of Cronbach alpha, resulting in a reliability coefficient of 0.79. The ITAT and ITIS were administered as a pretest and posttest, respectively, both before and after the intervention. The pretest and posttest scores were collected and analysed using ANCOVA. The results indicated a significant difference in the mean achievement and interest scores of students who were exposed to a technology-enhanced competitive learning environment compared to those who were exposed to a traditional learning environment. The technology-enhanced learning environment was shown to be more favourable in terms of achievement. The study's findings indicated that the integration of technology-enhanced competitive learning environments has a beneficial effect on students' achievement and stimulates their interest for Information Technology. The study recommended, among other things, the implementation of technology-enhanced competitive learning environment for Information Technology instruction
