Kidnapping of all manner of persons has gained ascendency among communities in Nigeria and has instilled fear which has affected communal living and functionality. More so, the police who are mandated to provide security for the people are often unprepared for the task at hand. This has made the populace to lose confidence in criminal justice systems and other law enforcement agents’ ability to secure their lives and properties. Based on the above, this study examined the public perception of kidnapping in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to examine the prevalence of kidnapping; an evaluation of the public perception on the causes of kidnapping; an examination on the effects of kidnapping on socio-political and economic activities and then bringing to light the strategies for mitigating the prevalence of kidnapping in Dekina Local Government Area. The study used cross sectional survey research design and was anchored on structural strain theoretical framework. Multi-stage sampling technique was utilized to randomly select participants from the sample size of 511 in their respective communities. The study found that there was a high prevalence of kidnapping in the study area arising from the causative factors such as attractive ransom payment, non-cooperation with the police, insufficient model with strong moral standard, and too much emphasis on material gains, poverty, greed and unemployment among others. Arising from the findings, it was recommended among others that religious organisations and parents should strongly inculcate morals in their children as people perceived to be involved in kidnapping are affiliates of varying religion; It also recommended that government should engage unemployed youth in jobs and empowerment programmes

This research paper examined the relationship between Fund Accounting and Infrastructural Development in Nigeria for a period of 10 years from (2008-2017). Secondary data obtained from the Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin of each year, the Recurrent and Capital Budget of the selected time series, and the Appropriation Act of each year were used for analysis, to test the hypotheses formulated. Ordinary least square multiple linear regression was the statistical tool used for the analysis with the aid of E-view 10. The proxy for the independent variable; Fund Accounting; Capital Development Fund and dependent variable Infrastructural Development; Education Sector was used to formulate the hypotheses tested. In carrying out the analysis, the stationary test showed that the variables were stationary at first difference. The co-Integration test proved the presence of a long run relationship between the variables. The granger causality test proved no causality between the variables. The recommendation made after the results posits that theFund accounting principle should be adhered to, for an effective and efficient accountability system, infrastructural development, economic growth and all round development in Nigeria

This study sought to ascertain the impact of knowledge management strategies on organisational creativity of hospitals in the Niger-delta region of Nigeria. Specifically, the study examined the impact of knowledge creation, knowledge sharing and knowledge implementation on organisational creativity.  This gave rise to three specific research questions and hypotheses which guide the study. A descriptive survey design adopted for the study; using a cross sectional survey, and the researchers gathered their data from primary sources using a 5-point Likert validated questionnaire. The target population of the study comprised medical staff of both federal and state teaching hospitals in the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria. Using a purposeful sampling technique, the questionnaire was distributed to 255 respondents across the selected hospitals. The data was analysed using correlation analysis. This method was used to process the data since it allows researchers to estimate relationship between two variables. The result revealed that a statistically significant positive relationship between knowledge management strategies and organisational creativity. Specifically, the result showed beta (β) coefficients of 0.493, 0.681 and 0.904 respectively on the relationships between knowledge creation, knowledge sharing and knowledge application with organisational creativity. Management and policy makers in Health sector especially hospital should as a matter of urgency develop policies that would encourage knowledge management practices in the industry. Also government and other relevant stakeholders are encouraged to improve funding of research and training for medical professionals

Public health places a premium on understanding the amount of fluoride in potable water and other toothpastes, as well as how it affects skeletal and dental tissues to cause fluorosis. Fluorosis is, however, poorly understood and known in Nigeria. The goal of this research was to Ascertain the Overall Occurrence of Dental Fluorosis in Students of Selected Secondary Schools in Rivers State. A cross-sectional survey of 541 students from selected secondary schools in Rivers State who were between the ages of 9 and 17 was carried out. All students present at school on the day of data collection had their mouths examined by oral health professionals as part of a quasi-experimental method. Each subject was supported by a torch light while seated on a chair, and their teeth were examined for dental fluorosis in their wet state. The presence of dental fluorosis and the severity of it were documented using Dean's Dental Fluorosis. The presence of dental fluorosis and the severity of it were documented using Dean's Dental Fluorosis. (358) Dental fluorosis impacted 66.17% of the students, varying in severity from very mild to severe cases

CONTRIBUTION OF SUPPRESSIVE SOIL IN CONTROLLING PLANT DISEASES

    Get PDF
Some soils have been observed to suppress diseases in crops grown upon them. Soils are a rich source of microbes that are thought to help plants suppress pathogens by improving the health of the plant, induce natural plant defense, produce antibiotics, compete against pathogens, or hyperparasitize the pathogen. Soil that suppresses crop disease due to the specific structure of its microbial community is known as disease-suppressive soil. Suppressive soil is an attractive method of biocontrol, because it has the potential to be sustainable over many seasons under favourable conditions.Suppressive soil is an example where the microflora in the soil is effective in protecting plants against soil-borne pathogens. The diversity and density of populations (bacteria, actinomycetes and fungi) is higher in suppressive soil than in conducive soil, including the diversity and population density of antagonistic microbes, for example in banana plant habitats without symptoms of Fusarium wilt (suppressive soil) is higher than the diversity of soil microbes in banana plant habitat with Fusarium wilt symptoms (conducive soil)

IMPLEMENTATION OF DIVERSION IN CRIMINAL CASES OF THEFT BY CHILDREN BASED ON LAW NUMBER 11 OF 2012 CONCERNING CHILDREN'S CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM

    Get PDF
Children are the next generation of the nation and have a long future journey and high aspirations. The psychological condition of children is still unstable, not independent, and easily influenced so criminal acts committed by children cannot be fully held accountable by the children themselves because children as perpetrators are not pure perpetrators but are also victims. When a child conflicts with the law, the child has the right to receive special protection. The research aims to determine the application of diversion in cases of criminal acts of theft by children and to determine the factors that become obstacles in the process of applying diversion to criminal acts of theft by children. The type of research used is normative juridical legal research, namely research that examines document studies using various secondary data such as statutory regulations, court decisions, legal theory, and research journals, and can be in the form of opinions by experts. The results of the research show that the implementation of diversion in cases of criminal acts of theft by children in Berau Regency has been successfully implemented in a coordinated manner among related institutions, where implementation is determined at all levels of case examination (investigation, prosecution, and trial). The obstacles faced in implementing diversion in Berau Regency are the lack of understanding of the community's thinking regarding the concept of diversion, the conditions and peace agreements not being achieved, and children not meeting the requirements for diversion. Police agencies and the Regional Technical Implementation Unit for the Protection of Women and Children (UPTD PPA) are expected to increase outreach to the community, victims, and victims' families regarding the concept of diversion and it is hoped that all levels of inspection will be more active in involving various parties who should be involved in the diversion process

The study sought to establish the relationship between environmental reporting and financial performance from 2002-2022 in quoted oil/gas companies in Nigeria.  Environmental reporting served as the independent variable with study dimensions as Employee Health/Safety Cost (EHC), Waste Management Cost (WMC) and Environment Compliance/Protection Cost. (ECC)., whereas the dependent variable included financial performance with Return on Assets (ROA) as proxy. The study adopted the ex-post facto research design and used secondary data. The data spanned the period between 2002 and 2022. The data used for the analysis was the average annual figures and was obtained from annual publish statement of account and Nigeria Stock Exchange statistical data. The data was analysed using E-view-10 statistical software package. This study established positive and significant relationship between the variables studied. Management of oil/gas downstream companies should ensure that environmental reporting is strongly implemented since it improves the quality of financial reports. The research recommended as follows: shareholders of oil/gas downstream companies in Nigeria should provide all necessary resources needed to understand the import of environmental reporting on their organisation and train staff on changes in accounting framework. Government should empower the financial reporting council of Nigeria (FRCN) to monitor and enforce standards and training to smoothen the introduction of International Financial Reporting Standards. This process would enhance credible and qualitative financial statements, promote growth and development of capital market in Nigeria. The Financial Reporting Council in conjunction with various professional bodies should place more premium on continuing professional education and training. As much as possible, the professional accountancy bodies should align their continuing professional education requirements with environmental reporting guidelines
