CHALLENGES FACED BY STUDENTS WHEN USING PHET SIMULATIONS IN SCIENCE EDUCATION: A CASE STUDY IN HAI PHONG CITY
This study investigates the challenges faced by secondary school students in Hai Phong, Vietnam, when using PhET simulations in science education. PhET simulations are widely recognized for their ability to enhance students' understanding of scientific concepts through interactive and hands-on experiences. However, the effective implementation of these tools in classrooms can be hindered by various obstacles. The primary objectives of this research were to identify the specific challenges students encounter, assess the impact of these challenges on learning outcomes, and propose solutions to improve the effectiveness of PhET simulations in science education. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather comprehensive data from 265 students across multiple grade levels. The findings reveal that students experience significant technical difficulties, such as issues with device compatibility and unstable internet connections. Additionally, cognitive challenges were identified, with students reporting difficulties in understanding the scientific concepts presented in the simulations. A considerable number of students also expressed the need for additional guidance from teachers, indicating that insufficient instructional support is a key barrier to the effective use of PhET simulations.
These challenges have important implications for science education. Without addressing these obstacles, the potential benefits of PhET simulations may be limited, leading to reduced student engagement and suboptimal learning outcomes. The study concludes by recommending strategies to mitigate these challenges, including enhancing technical infrastructure, providing targeted teacher training, and developing supplementary instructional materials. By implementing these solutions, educators can better integrate PhET simulations into their teaching practices, thereby maximizing their educational value. while PhET simulations hold great promise for improving science education, their effectiveness is contingent on overcoming technical, cognitive, and instructional barriers. This study contributes valuable insights to the discourse on technology integration in education and offers practical recommendations for enhancing the use of educational simulations in diverse learning environments
Effect of team teaching strategy on secondary school students' achievement and interest in linear equations
The study examined the effect of Team- Teaching Strategy (TTS) on secondary school students’ Achievement and Interest in Linear Equation. It adopted a quasi- experimental, non- randomized control group design. The study was guided by six research questions and six null hypotheses. The population of the study consisted of 4670 mathematics students in Onitsha Education Zone of Anambra State of Nigeria. A sample of 230(68males and 72 females)senior secondary school students was drawn from six co-educational schools drawn from a population of 14 co-educational secondary schools within the specified area. A flip of coin was used to assign three of the schools to experimental group and the other three to control group. Linear Equation Achievement Test (LEAT) of 50 multiple choice items structured by the researcher and Linear Equation Interest Scale (LEIS) of 20 items formed the instrument for data collection. The instruments were duly validated by experts and reliability index of 0.89 was obtained for LEAT using KR-20 while 0.87 was obtained for LEIS using Cronbach alpha reliability. Mean and Standard Deviation were used to answer the research questions while ANCOVA was used to test the null hypothesis at 0.05level of significance. The findings of the study showed a significant difference between students taught using TTS and those taught using Single Teacher Teaching Strategy (SSTT) in favor of TTS. Also there was a significant difference in students’ interest in linear equation when taught with the two methods infavor of TTS, among other findings. The study concluded that TTS is a better strategy for improved students’ achievement than STTS. It was recommended among others that TTS should be adopted for effective teaching of mathematics in secondary schools. Mathematics teacher- trainees should be trained on the use of TTS and serving teachers should be encouraged to use it in teaching

Enhancement of Communication Abilities in Learners with Autistic Spectrum Disorder via the use of Nature-Expo Therapy in Buea, Cameroon; stakeholders’ perspectives
Communication is a naturally acquired ability, but it is an uphill task for most learners with autistic spectrum disorders. Absence of time in nature fosters deficiency in areas such as language development and communication skills. This study examined the effect of nature expo therapy on the enhancement of communication abilities in pupils 9-11years with autistic spectrum disorders in the Buea municipality, Southwest Region of Cameroon. The study sought to answer the following questions: how would you describe your child’s communication abilities before the intervention, what kind of natural environment did you expose your client to and what constituted the therapeutic activities and the duration and how does nature-expo therapy impact the communication ability of children with ASD?The study adopted the descriptive survey with a qualitative paradigm where parents and therapists of children with autistic spectrum disorders were interviewed and given opened ended questionnaire to decipher their opinion on the children’s communication abilities. Five Parents and five therapists of five children with ASD of both genders, from the Buea Municipality of the Southwest regions of Cameroon, aged six to eleven years participated in this research. Data collection was done from April till September 2024. It was done simultaneously between parents and therapist to avoid differences in responses in relation to time. Children’s communication deficits were established, and interventions given by therapists. The intervention adopted was nature expo therapy. Parents and therapists reported positive changes in verbal non-verbal and pragmatic language ability for all the children with autism who took the intervention. The study recommended the integration of nature-expo therapy and nature-expo teaching into the everyday activities for children with autistic spectrum disorders

Therefore, it was recommended that the management team of JAMB should adopt new public management to provide leadership at all the JAMB offices in the study. Moreover, further study of other branches of JAMB, other examination bodies and public sectors of the Nigerian economy can be replicated
Rites Associated with Owho-nu-ogwu (Deified Symbols of Justice) in Ikwerre of Niger Delta
Owho-nu-ogwu are two different deified ritual symbols which complement each other in Ikwerre worldview. These two ritual symbols occupy a central and unique place in Ikwerre ritual balance. This is because the people believe that these two cultic symbols can vindicate anyone who is accused falsely as well as punish any offender in line with their customs and traditions, but the belief and practices associated with them are gradually going into extinction as a result of modern forces of change such as westernization. This article, therefore, re-examines the rites associated with these symbols in Ikwerre religious thought. The article adopted the symbolic interactionism theory as its frame work which states that the meaning of symbols is imposed on what the users interpret them to mean. The article adopted both the analytical and descriptive approaches. Our findings so far revealed that the belief in these cultic symbols is still relevant to the people in-spite of the devastating effects of modern changes. The work therefore, recommends that the socio-cultural values of these symbols should not be misconceived as “fetish” as most Christians see it, but rather be seen as institutionalised practice which they inherited from their forebears. The work also recommended that these practices should not go into extinction, but a way through which their culture is kept

Abstract
Children mortality is a major public health concern, particularly in developing countries. It is one of the most important indicators of development and a factor in determining life expectancy. It can also inform health services policy makers about matters to prioritize. This study aimed to identify the pattern and causes of childhood mortality in a tertiary public hospital (Benghazi Children Hospital) over a 3- year period. Retrospective study was undertaken at the Benghazi Children Hospital over a three-year period (January 2018-December 2020). Data was gathered from the medical records of infant and children (aged 1 month to 16 years) of age that died in the Benghazi Children Hospital. Demographic details and the main causes of deaths were reviewed. The result of this study indicated that, atotal of 691 mortalities were recorded during the study period, giving a mortality rate of 1.4%. Males constituted 353 (51.1%) and females constituted 338 (48.9%). The mortality rate was the highest in the age group of less than 1 year (58.7%).Infectious diseases (21.7%), nervous system disorders (19.8%) and disease of the respiratory system (19.4%) were the most common intrinsic causes of deaths. Extrinsic causes were responsible for smaller number of deaths (1.2%).Pneumonia was the leading immediate cause of deaths in hospitalized children among all ages.
Study results concluded that infectious diseases represented as the most common systemic cause of child mortality. Special efforts (preventive and curative) to combat the risk of childhood mortality are needed
