Final report LuFo JoinDT
Datei-Upload durch TIBThe Joining with Damage Tolerance (JoinDT) project aimed to bring structural bonding of CFRP components to the certification level. As part of this project, ADS has coordinated the simulation partners and carried out various experimental investigations to generate validation data. Numerical methods for the high-resolution, resource-efficient simulation of crack growth were designed and optimized. Applied to different specimen types, including MCLS, CLS, SLS, WSLS and SLTAI samples, the calculation of crack propagation and the no-growth approach was achieved. These results were verified with the data from experimental investigations. In addition to the damage type, the influence of the laminate structure with regard to damage tolerance was examined. Regarding “flush repairs”, in which the top layer is omitted, their feasibility and resilience could be demonstrated in the test. A test structure was developed for the more complex component test, which was manufactured by the project partner INVENT. This structure will be used to demonstrate the calculation methodology for complex structures in preparation for a TRL5
Ubiquitous Order-Disorder Transition in the Mn Antisite Sublattice of the (MnBi2Te4)(Bi2Te3)n Magnetic Topological Insulators
Magnetic topological insulators (TIs) herald a wealth of applications in spin-based technologies, relying on the novel quantum phenomena provided by their topological properties. Particularly promising is the (MnBi2Te4)(Bi2Te3)n layered family of established intrinsic magnetic TIs that can flexibly realize various magnetic orders and topological states. High tunability of this material platform is enabled by manganese–pnictogen intermixing, whose amounts and distribution patterns are controlled by synthetic conditions. Here, nuclear magnetic resonance and muon spin spectroscopy, sensitive local probe techniques, are employed to scrutinize the impact of the intermixing on the magnetic properties of (MnBi2Te4)(Bi2Te3)n and MnSb2Te4. The measurements not only confirm the opposite alignment between the Mn magnetic moments on native sites and antisites in the ground state of MnSb2Te4, but for the first time directly show the same alignment in (MnBi2Te4)(Bi2Te3)n with n = 0, 1 and 2. Moreover, for all compounds, the static magnetic moment of the Mn antisite sublattice is found to disappear well below the intrinsic magnetic transition temperature, leaving a homogeneous magnetic structure undisturbed by the intermixing. The findings provide a microscopic understanding of the crucial role played by Mn–Bi intermixing in (MnBi2Te4)(Bi2Te3)n and offer pathways to optimizing the magnetic gap in its surface states
Abschlussbericht
Datei-Upload durch TIBOn the basis of an exact power history and accurate geometric modelling, plant-specific neutron fluences were calculated for in each case a pre- and convoy unit of German nuclear power plant for reactor components and for concrete and structural elements close to the reactor. These neutron fluences are the basis for determining the generated activation of the construction materials during the power operation of the plant. The calculations were supported by an extensive measurement program in the last cycles of two plants, where neutron fluence values were determined experimentally with the help of activation foils (monitors). A spectral analysis was possible by using different monitor materials. The monitors were measured by gamma spectrometry after sampling using a high-purity germanium (HP-Ge) detector. The comparison of the calculated and measured activities shows, with a few exceptions, good to very good agreement between the values. This means that the real ratios of neutron radiation in the elements were calculated very well and the method can be used to determine the activity distribution.
Due to the possibility of the accurate simulation of the resulting activities on the basis of these "best estimate" calculations, detailed planning of the decommissioning can already begin during the operation of the plant. It is not necessary to wait until extensive sampling after the shutdown.
In addition, the accurate mathematical determination of the activity distribution in the components enables improved cut planning and thus minimization of the waste volume for the final storage. A further advantage would be that the necessary experimental activity determinations could be reduced to a few samples thanks to the supporting experiments and thereby validated neutron fluence calculations
VVM - Schlussbericht
Datei-Upload durch TIBThe VVM project has created a consistent methodical safety approach for automated driving in an urban environment for the first time. Central aspects of the overall VVM method are the scenario-based approach, the criticality analysis, the capability-based architecture, seamless testing in virtual, semi-virtual and real test environments and integration into an overarching argumentation structure. Building on the results of the previous Pegasus and SetLevel4to5 public funded projects, industry-wide cooperation in the field of automated and connected driving can thus be further improved.
As a major German TIER1, ZF Friedrichshafen AG (hereinafter referred to as ZF) was a consortium partner in the VVM project and held the industrial lead in the sub-projects TP2 "Criticality Analysis" and TP7 "Test Procedure". In addition, ZF was involved in all sub-projects except for TP5 and was thus able to contribute the competencies and perspective of a TIER1 with experience in the development of safety-relevant vehicle systems across all sub-projects.
This final report describes the VVM project in detail and summarizes the activities and results that ZF has achieved together with the consortium partners from academia and industry
Abchlussbericht - Final report ImmuneAvatar - Teilprojekt D - Akronym: ImmuneAvatar
The Immune Avatar consortium was launched to allow for the generation and validation of immunocompetent in vitro models of the liver, intestine and adipose tissue crosstalk for drug candidate testing, particularly for metabolic diseases. The project thus aimed at tackling a current lack of multicellular, human cell-based, metabolically functional and clinically-relevant models that would also integrate the crucial and diverse roles of the immune system in disease progression or drug response. Due to logistical and technical challenges, we at Charité had to postpone the use of primary human material and instead focused on primary mouse cells. Yet, this contingency plan led us to go beyond the initial plan in terms of depth of phenotypical analyses and to further explore the versatility of the system. By doing so, we were able to demonstrate the liver-on-a-chip (LoC) potential to drastically increase the clinical relevance of organ-on-a-chip models as compared to monocellular or
conventional 3-dimensional (i.e., organoid) cell culture systems. In particular, our LoC could recapitulate all hallmarks of acute drug-induced liver injury, including circulating immune cell recruitment. Furthermore, we could also model steatosis and demonstrate the potential of drug candidates, lanifibranor and resmetirom, in differentially preventing disease onset. This data has been
published in an original research paper, along with detailed technical procedures allowing other institutes to implement the model in their procedures. Overall, we demonstrated the functional relevance of the LoC for disease mechanism study and for preclinical drug candidate evaluations.
Current projects in our department build on these successes and explore further applications as well as further optimization of the system to model other conditions.
