This is the translation of an excerpt from the autobiography of Abd al-Majid Daryabadi (1892-1977), an Indian Muslim scholar who was active in political, academic, literary and religious circles during a career spanning more than six decades. This excerpt highlights the spiritual journey of the scholar as he drifts away from religious and ethical beliefs towards materialism, atheism and apostasy and then gradually returns to Islam under the influence of Eastern religious philosophy, Rumi’s Maṣnavī and other spiritual and religious texts

Bābū Gōpī Nātẖ is one of Manto’s epic characters. Through him the writer studies the gradual purging and transcendence of the human soul. اردو لغت نگاری کے بعض مسائل
This article discusses some important issues of Urdu lexicography, i.e. the act of compiling dictionaries. The writer points out that no Urdu lexicon as of now has been comprehensively compiled using modern methods and principles of the discipline. For example the issues about the number of alphabets, their order, the meanings of words, different shades of synonyms, pronunciation, source etc. need attention. Most importantly, several words, now integrally a part of the language are ignored, thus showing that a complete and comprehensive work has yet not evolved
