واجد علی شاہ بحیثیت مثنوی نگار: ’’حزنِ اختر‘‘ کے حوالے سے
Urdu literature comprises various genres, one of which is Habsiyati Adab (prison literature). A remarkable example of this is Wajid Ali Shah’s masnavi Huzn-e-Akhtar, written in 1859 and published in 1860 in Calcutta. In this poetic work, he narrates the days of his imprisonment at Fort William. The masnavi describes the annexation of his kingdom, after which he sets out on a journey to London to seek justice. However, upon reaching Calcutta, he falls ill and, as a result, sends his mother, son, and brother ahead to London while he stays in Mochi Khola, Calcutta. Just as he begins to recover, the Revolt of 1857 breaks out, throwing the region into turmoil. In response, the British authorities imprison him at Fort William.
In Huzn-e-Akhtar, Wajid Ali Shah Akhtar not only mentions his family members and household staff but also reflects on the passing of his mother, brother, and child.
In terms of language and style, the masnavi is characterized by clarity, elegance, fluency, and eloquence. It reflects the charm of the Lucknavi dialect, especially Begamati Zaban (the refined speech of noblewomen), along with literary embellishments. The smooth flow, spontaneity, and careful use of idioms and expressions make its tone highly engaging. The portrayal of events, emotions, and personal experiences is strikingly vivid, though its spelling differs significantly from modern conventions.
Overall, Huzn-e-Akhtar is an autobiographical, historical, prison-themed, and poetic travelogue. Through this work, Wajid Ali Shah expresses the sorrow and hardships he endured during this difficult period of his life

The distinction between Western and Eastern feminism is pivotal in 21st century literature, providing a nuanced exploration of women's experiences. Authors like Kishwar Naheed, Fahmida Riaz, and others challenge societal norms in the evolving gender dynamics landscape. It highlights the significance of textual editing, its historical evolution, and the influences of different linguistic traditions, including Arabic, Persian, and Western textual criticism. The study examines how Urdu adopted and adapted these traditions to establish its own scholarly editing practices.
The article emphasizes that the foundation of Urdu textual editing was laid on the principles of Hadith compilation, where preserving the author’s original text was of utmost importance. This research article analyses Ghulam Abbas's novella Dhanak from various perspectives. Specifically, it examines how Dhanak portrays the religious backwardness in Pakistan half a century ago and emphasizes the exploitation of Islam by religious leaders for their own power. The novella highlights Pakistan's scientific progress while also depicting the leaders' mistrust and discouragement of innovation. Once, under governmental control, these leaders ultimately devastate the country's development. This study employs comparative literary analysis to explore themes such as religious regression, the struggle for modernity, and the impact of political power on social progress. By conducting literary reviews, textual analyses, and considering historical contexts, this research identifies parallels between the socio-political conditions of mid-20th century Pakistan and contemporary issues. The comparative analysis draws on current academic articles and sociological studies to underscore the persistent challenges in balancing tradition with modernity. The findings reveal that the themes of Dhanak remain relevant to our present society, reflecting the enduring struggle between progressive ideals and conservative forces in Pakistan. This study helps to understand how historical literary works can shed light on contemporary societal issues, offering a comprehensive perspective on the ongoing tension between innovation and tradition in Pakistan's socio-political landscape
فرانز کافکا کے فکشن میں تجریدیت
Abstractionism is a Western term that emerged as a trend in the modernist movement. Followers of abstractionism emphasize that the unconscious emotions and desires of man are the source of individual thought and should be expressed in literature. Thomas Mann, George Orwell, James Joyce, Camus, and Franz Kafka have made successful experiments in Western abstract literature. Franz Kafka's stories The Metamorphosis, The Hunter, The Trail, The Castle are excellent examples of abstraction. A unique feature of these stories is the facelessness and blurring of characters and objects, which gives them the form of shadows and their identification is based solely on their moods, emotions and feelings. Kafka's stories are characterized by blurring, vagueness, uncertainty, ambiguity and dreaminess. In fact, he has made the loneliness of the individual and the decline of civilization and morality the subject and has presented pictures of a scattered and chaotic life with abstract expressions and qualities
