This study explores the changing relationship of communities in Colonial and Post-colonial Urdu Literature. It attempts to map out the communal space in the symbolic world of literature given to the Christians over a century by Urdu fiction writers. In colonial India, the missionary activities especially for female education evoked Christians responses among Urdu writers. It is interesting to note that female novelists are more accommodating and they presented a positive picture of female Christian characters as compared to the male writers who used female body, social and reformative activities and modern living styles of the Christian females for pleasure. But ironically sometimes presented them as iconic characters of social change. After independence the social position of Christians went through a major change in different parts of the subcontinent. The social space in the ideological Muslim state was very different and somewhat deteriorating for the Christians. Their representation also incorporated these changes. The characters chosen in fiction had a different social background now. This study will help us in understanding the broader communal representation of Christians by digging into the linguistic and intertextual strategies adopted by the Urdu fiction writers

Elegiacal Poetry in Urdu is referred to "Marsia"; a famous genre of Urdu Literature, and Mir Anis (1803–1874) is the beacon of this genre. Hailing from Faizabad (Oudh State) Mir Anis stayed in Lukhnow and formed a marvelous tradition of Marsia in Urdu. His Marsias are best known for analogy, imagery and dramatic illustration of situation in Urdu. Among the early critics of Urdu, Muhammad Hussain Azad, Altaf Hussain Hali, Imdad Imam Asar and Maulana Shibli Nomani have the distinction that they were born during the reign of Mir Anis. Not only this, but they also got their basic critical insight from the socio–political condition and scholarly culture of Anis's time. They wrote excellent criticism of Mir Anis's poetry which became a beacon for future researchers. Among them, Azad wrote superficially on Mir Anis, but Hali, Asar and Shibli wrote in more detail. In the tradition of Anis Shinasi, Shibli's work is often referred to the comparison of Mir Anis and Mirza Dabeer, but among these critics, Anis has been analyzed in a very unconventional and unique way by Imdad Imam Asar because he compared the epic aspects of his poetry with European classical poets like Homer amp; Shakespeare. He found the quality of drama writing more solid in Anis rather than those of Europe. This article covers the critical views of the said four contemporary critics of Mir Anis
