Zillah Dictionary (1852) compiled by Charles Philip Brown (1798-1884) is a historical document of language, civilizations and culture of Indo-Pak sub-continent. However, it couldn’t win a prominent position among its contemporaries. Apparently, its subject is everyday terms of judiciary, revenue and business in India. The headwords are given in roman and meanings explained in English language. All entries of different languages are also given in their respective scripts. This glossary is multilingual in its presentation but it has a dominant number of words owing to Urdu. Regarding this it should have been enlisted in descriptive lists of dictionaries complied by orientalists and others. But due to some unclear reasons, this glossary remained unfamiliar to Urdu circles. Commendable research has been carried out on early Urdu dictionaries and glossaries in the past decades but under discussion glossary has not under gone any analysis or research yet. Its worth can only be estimated if it is analyzed linguistically and critically, which will be of interest for linguists and lexicographers. An in-depth study of literary biography of the compiler of this glossary can be helpful in assessing his thought process while doing this work and revealing reasons behind its unpopularity.

There are two very opposing opinions regarding his life and poetry. Sara rejects social, religious and historical concepts regarding women. She talks about women's rights and equality. Her feminist thought was not the gift of book studies or fashion, but the result of bitter life experiences. Therefore, we see that there is no contradiction in his words and actions. Just as his life was spent protesting, his poetry has also become a metaphor for protest..
