No full textGhazal is a popular genre of not only of Urdu and Persian poetry but also has its musical and melodious effect. In this paper an attempt has been made to measure statistically the popularity of various Urdu poetic rhythms i.e metres. It has been discovered that in a corpus of five hundred sung Urdu ghazals, a total of forty metres have been used. Out of these forty metres, only four metres were found to cover more than half of the corpus. These observations are compared with classical Urdu poetry and analysed using several classifications. An attempt is also made to find linkages between Urdu poetic and musical rhythms

No full textSyed Sibt-e-Hassan was a Marxist Idealist and Radical Laureate. He had great contribution in Urdu Journalism, Political and Social Science, Literature, History and Culture. He put-new light through his writings for the promotion of Scientific Rational Approach to strengthen the foundation for the critical thought process to uphold democratic values in the society. Stereotype customs and clutches and superstition of the past were interpreted in a new way under the light of historical and Marxist perspective to harmonize the contemporary compulsions. Theological based approach and interpretation regarding religion, society and culture imposed the inertia in the society, were confronted with on the basis of logic reasoning and inference. This abstract is a subtle analysis of the ideas and thoughts of Syed Sibt-e-Hassan through which new arena of his genius is exposed

No full textThe history of conflict between Islam and the West has posed questions such as: whether Muslims and the West are really at cross-road? And is there no way to reconcile the differences? Keeping in view the western claims to superiority over the Muslims in the name of modernity, the paper explores some of the points of assimilation between Muslims and the West. Tracing the origin of western claims to modernity in 'scientific method, and 'politics of individualism' it evolves around the view that Ibn Khaldun (1332-1406) was pioneer of the approach on the basis of which the modern west is claiming the leadership of modern world. Although until the twentieth century, the impact of Ibn Khaldun on the West was not accepted, A. J. Toynbee's analysis reflects an extreme impact of Ibn Khaldun on the Western thought. Therefore, comparing Ibn Khaldun and A. J. Toynbee's systems of thought, the paper concludes that Ibn Khaldun is the only theorist, whose theories are equally appreciated by the Muslims and the West, which can bridge the gap between Muslims and the West. It has a wide scope to serve the cause of de-escalation of intellectual tension and developing harmony among the conflicting methods, communities and culture

Urdu Mushaira is a great source of growth and development of Urdu Language and Literature. Asian community is always very excited about it. Pakistani and Indian consulates, Asia educational-institutes, schools, literary associations and well-to-do people arrange for these Mushairas. These Mushairas are not only a source of entertainment for South Asian community but these gatherings have attracted Saudi poets too.
