No full textIn the modern literary scene of Bahawalpur in perspective of technique and time, there are perhaps two poets considered as the oldest. The specialty, they have, is that both were born before the acceptance of Pakistan resolution. The major part of both poets' life was passed in Bahawalpur and both are bilingual poets, Professor Abdul Aziz Javed's poetic work is in Urdu and Persian and Punjabi where as Syed Imam Ali Ibn-ul-Shafter's work is in Urdu and Saraiki. Both poets have their own opinion about every genre and topic, moreover, their final opinion has got an Islamic touch. It can be said that both the poets are best representative of the culture of Bahawalpur Despite of all their deficiency in their knowledge and wisdom

In this article introduced and edited one of his important and rare book. It was written in 1863 and published in 1874

No full textFaiz has very resolutely poeticized his dear homeland and here residents. He visualizes his country and its people as his beloved. He declares his war against dictatorship as his passion. Faiz has always lamented over the miserable condition of his dear homeland and its people. He is very pathetic about the degradation of pride of his nation, the ignorance, starvation and about the doom as well. Faiz makes his imprisonment as his second home. His poetry written during his imprisonment has highlighted the symbols of classical poetry. So it has a general as well a universal appeal. Both of his poems and contains all the above mentioned elements. This short article highlights Faiz's poetic devices created during his imprisonment

No full textThis article is the evaluation of some critics who wrote about Faiz poetry with a particular state of mind. Dr.Wazir Aagha, Prof.F.M.Malik and Dr.Anis Nagi are of the opinion that Faiz as a poet was static in his thought, views and expressions. This article tries to seek the intention behind these assumptions. Dr.Aagha and Dr.Nagi basically belong to one anti camp of progressive writers and are considered anti Marxists. This is the reason they declared Faiz a static poet. This article exercises a practical reading of Faiz poetry and tries to set aside these assumptions or point of view with the help of Faiz own text. It establishes that Faiz was a dynamic poet and has an evolution in his poetry

No full textThe Baloch writers of Pakistan contributed a lot in the genre of Urdu short story. This article critically introduces such Baloch writers and their collections of Urdu short stories. Those Baloch writers who translated the foreign short stories or compiled collections, have also been critically appraised. The Baloch writers contributed 21 collections of Urdu Short stories so far, out of them 13 are self written, three partially written, three translated from Balochi, Brahoi and English literature, while two collections have been compiled. The prominent Baloch Urdu short story writers are: Prof. Anwar Ahmed Zai, Rafia Sarfraz Ahmadani, Tariq Baloch Sahrai, Abdul Rehman Ghaur, Muhammad Shafi Baloch, Mussarat Leghari, Maulana Noor Ahmed Khan Fareedi, and Prof. Yasmin Huma Gurmani. However Azra Hafeez ur Rehman Buzdar and Prof. Aziz Muhammad Bugti have also wrote short stories on a short scale. The fiction translators are: Afzal Murad and Prof. Dr. Shah Muhammad Marri. The short story collection Compilers are: Prof. Dr. Imtiaz Baloch and Prof. Nasim Akhtar Nasim Mastoi. The first Urdu short story Collection written by a Baloch writer is: "Islami Afsanay Vol. I", published by Maulana Noor Ahmed Khan Fareedi in 1952.

No full textSir Syed's contributions for the betterment and empowerment of the Muslims are great. His greatest achievement was the Aligarh Movement which contributed a lot for the regeneration and revival of the Muslims of the Sub-Continent. Sir Syed and his colleagues by their combined efforts tried to revive the spirit of progress within the Muslim community of India. A number of Muslim Urdu prose writers of eminence, historians and essayists came to the front. Sir Syed's himself wrote a number of books like Asarus Sanadeed, Asbab-e-Baghawat-e-Hind and Tehzib-Ul-Akhlaq and succeeded in marking people realize the value of modern knowledge and gave new directions to Muslim social and political thoughts. Sir Syed's companions like Molana hali, Shibli Nomani and Molana Zakaullah also tried to revive people of subcontinent through literary contributions. Literary works of Maulana Hali like Musaddas, biography of Sir Syed, Mirza Ghalib, and of Shekh Saadi are considered as one of the great contribution to Urdu literature. Similarly, shibli Nomani's books like Al Farooq, Al Gazali, Al Mamoon, Al Kalam, and Seratun Nabi are so famous and authentic that history student uses them as reference book for their research paper. Moreover, Molvi Zakaullah wrote many books on science and mathematics and the history of medieval India. Thus, these all people with great power of knowledge were the backbone of Aligarh Movement and their main motive was to fight and sought against old customs and traditions

No full textIn this article, the two literary movements - "Progressive Movement" and the "Movement of Modernism" which started in the fourth decade of the twentieth century, have been analyzed which influenced Urdu literature, especially Urdu poetry. These two movements progressed in parallel to each other and this process carried on after the Independence (1947) as well. The representatives of both the movements had their own artistic orbit that makes both the movements to stand confronting one another, however there were many similar aspects. Anyhow, both the movements enriched Urdu poetry with contemporary insight, modern sensibility and newness of form and style
