No full textMunir Niazi is a prominent modern poet of Urdu language. He has a creative command over both genres of Ghazal and Nazm. His poetry is appreciated because of his unique and bold style. He has employed, time and between, element of personification in his poetry very beautifully. The usage of personification has made him a poet of different kind. Some mythological symbols have a cultural meaning in his poems. Munir Niazi is an idealist. He seems to be in search of a man through his verse who can fight against ugliness of the society and endeavors to promote aesthetic values.

No full textIn the time of Khawja Nizamuddin Aulia both religious and stately conditions were promising and ripe. Therefore Aulia's period is considered as golden era of the subcontinent. Though Khanqah of Nizam was physically located in the Capital city of Delhi but virtually it had nothing to do with the state. Since in Chishti Order of Sufism, state and Tasawwuf are separate entities, any relation or contact with the incumbents are equal to death of spirituality. Indifferent to political forces, Khawja Nizam struggled hard to revive the great spiritual and Khanqahi institution of the subcontinent by laying down its principles.

No full textKhushdil was a Persian poet of the Subcontinent who lived in thirteenth century al-Hijra. Little is known about his life and whereabouts. Renowned scholar Munzavi has mentioned two of his books. One of them is Khushdil Nama and the other is Diwan-e-Khushdil. The latter comprises twenty three ghazls including one musammat whose manuscript is housed at Ganj Bukhsh Library, Islamabad. This is a very important Persian diwan because of its techniques and thoughts. Besides edited form of the said diwan, the article presents a biographical study of Khushdil.

Commonly, Majeed is not considered as a poet manifesting political consciousness or ideology, but if we go through his poetry, we find him a poet with a great political vision. No full textThe issue of terminology in Arabic language has become so complex that it is badly affecting academic advancement and research as the same term is being used differently with the change of geographical or political entity. The academic endeavors lack in harmonious view on the topic. The article in hand is a study of western linguistic terminologies with special reference to Philology and Linguistics. Since these terms have pure western academic background, they should not be employed for Eastern languages especially Arabic language. Arabic language should be studied in light of language sciences introduced by primary and principal scholars of Arabic. The article ends with some suggestions pertaining to adopting of terms unanimously.

No full textShariat and Tareeqat are the two aspects of Islam. Most of the Sufis adopt Tareeqat to maintain the course of their simple life. Known Sufi poet Khawja Ghulam Farid is one of them. He was the follower of Wahdatul Wujood school of Sufi thought and spoke high of Ibne Arabi, the expounder of the theory of Wahdatul Wujood. Khawja Ghualm Farid preached the real Tasawwuf through his unique poetry and attained the true path of life.

No full textA cursory look on the history of Urdu Literature of 20th century confirms the fact that Progressive movement contributed substantially in the fields of poetry, fiction and criticism. Ali Sardar Jafri, one of the pioneers of the movement produced poetry, fiction and criticism. He has been hailed as a leading poet and one of the few distinguished critics ever produced by Marxist school of criticism in Urdu. With wider perspective of New Marxist Critical Theory, this article analyses critical writings of Jafri spreading over from his theoretical constructions to interpretive studies of poetry. The article theorises that Jafri's earlier writings show his hard-line belief in orthodox Marxist stance about literature characterising altogether rejection of classical and modernist literature, but in his later writings, particularly focused on the poetry of Kabir, Meer and Ghalib, he seems to be advocating the cultural pluralism, more probably as an ultimate answer to the crisis that arose out of the insistence on conflicting forms of linguistic and religious identities.

The poet has not only praised and depicted the unique trees found only in the Kashmir valley in his composition in a matchless style but has also condemned the ruthless cutting down of the beautiful and unique trees by human beings. The Masnavi comprises seventy two verses. Its manuscript is available with the Central Library of the University of the Punjab, Lahore. Besides edited text of the Masnavi, the article presents the definition of difficult words and poetic terms used in the Masnavi by Yousuf Kashmiri.

No full textThe main claim of Naqeeb Ahmad to fame is his commentaries on text books of Arabic and Persian. He is also known as a distinguished teacher of religious sciences. He has penned many books on different topics. But strangely his poetic flare is least known in literary circles. This article deals with poetic aspect of his persona. Naqeeb's poetry is reminiscent of classical Arabic poetry. Besides quotations from poetry of Islamic and pre-Islamic periods, pedagogic tone is strongly felt through his poetry. It is also rich in quotations from the holy Qura'n and the Hadith. The article is incorporated with examples of his poetry dealing various aspects of society of his time

No full textIt is evident that the Progressive Movement in the Subcontinent started in the objective condition prevailing at that time. In the beginning some men of letters attributed Progressive Criticism to Marxism. But as Dr. Qamar Raees has clarified, it was not a mechanical approach towards criticism. The main emphasis is on social context of literature. In this perspective, two progressive critics, Syed Sibte Hasan and Zoe Ansari can be termed as the important founders of Progressive Criticism in Urdu. Both of them give equal importance to social context of literature as well as the classical and cultural heritage of the society.
