Shams ur Rahman Farooqi is a contemporary renowned critic of Urdu literature especially of Urdu fiction. He enjoys an established recognition as a critic, researcher and writer. But his main claim to fame is criticism. He has a close relation with modernist movement of literature and is a serious reader of Urdu's famous genera of the past i.e., Dastaan. So he has seen the Urdu short story from different angle. The article is a study of his principles of fiction criticism which he expressed in his different articles

Sorokin coined the idea of Social space to determine the social status of a person. This theme is useful in analyzing the relative position of a person in one's group and one's horizontical or vertical movement within and to other groups. Novel is a symbolic space, which makes possible for writers to construct the relative social status of characters. The position given to a character and his/her mobility may be studied in light of Sorokin's ideas. It helps us in understanding the role of economy in achieving the agency implied by the social mobility.

Seemingly the subject of Home Economics is new but as the matter of fact it is not a new one as a scholar of 9th century CE Ibne Qutaiba dealt it in his famous book titled ‘Ayon al Akhbaar. This Arabic scholar was fully aware of the importance of managing household for the healthy up-bringing of a family determining the role of different members in a family. The article discusses some of the special provisions for the Bedouins in the era of Prophet (PBUH). The Bedouins were rather crude by nature. Some of the Bedouins were true believers and dedicated their lives for the sake of Islam. The Prophet gave the Bedouins special considerations and eased them out in some rights and obligations. He facilitated them in addressing their mistakes. He inculcated love in their hearts for Islam and tolerated all kinds of their harshness. The way the Holy Prophet (PBUH) dealt with the Bedouins carry a message for preachers of all times to come to be lenient towards people so that they may come closer to the religion and not vice versa.

The present study discusses the autobiographical nature of Siddique Salik's Urdu novel Pressure Cooker. The biographical novel is a written account of author's or another person's life. Pressure Cooker has been treated as a figment of fiction. The central character of the novel is inspired by the life of the famous painter Ghulam Rasool of Islamabad. Additionally, there are shades of Salik's own life in the novel. Neither Siddique Salik nor any of his critics has pointed out this reality in written form so far. Both persons are critically compared and evaluated in this article.

This article aims at establishing Hafiz Mahmood Sherani as pioneer of Manuscript Reading in Urdu. Hafiz Sherani is credited with the introduction of rules for editing in Urdu language. He painstakingly edited "Khaliq e Bari" and "Diwan e Zauq" which proved to be exemplary work in the field of editing and helpful for the Urdu researchers to come. Truly, he deserves to be regarded as the pioneer in the field of Manuscript Reading in Urdu language.

Human beings are of various kinds. The thinkers have categorized them differently. Sheikh Alauddin Ali al-Muttaqi is such a scholar who has also written on the topic. He has classified the people accordingly and has quoted Qura’nic verses and sayings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) in this regard. He has elucidated such division in his brief treatise titled “Ni’m al Mi’yaar wa al Miqyaas fi Ma’rifah e Maaratib al Naas”. This treatise comprises a four pages manuscript that is hitherto unpublished. The article introduces this manuscript of great value of an Arabic scholar of the Subcontinent

In this brief piece of research, it has been endeavored to elaborate the opinions of different scholars of the art of translation. Starting with the introduction of translation and its eight famous methods, it ends up summarizing the view points of seven prominent European and American scholars of the translation.
LAHORE DURING THE GHANAVID PERIOD A SOCIO POLITICAL AND CULTURAL STUDY
Most of the historical documents and books are quiet about the art and craft produced in the early Muslim period of Lahore except for some sketchy information that we glimpse in different accounts. Before the arrival of Islam, Raja Jai Pal ruled Punjab. Mahmud of Ghazna conquered Lahore in 1021 AD. Hazrat Ali Hujveri, Husain Zanjani and Syed Ismael Muhaddis are worth mentioning scholars who lived in Lahore during Ghaznavid period. The city was full of cultural and artistic activities but the information about them is very scarce. An interesting source of information is the poetry written in that period by the poets of Lahore. These literary accounts give us references of architecture, painting, calligraphy, music and dance of Lahore

There is a long list of men of letters in the Subcontinent who expressed their feelings and emotions in Arabic language. Writing books and composing verse in Arabic language are ample proof of their excellence in Arabic. Syed Ghulam Ali Azad was such a personality who adopted Arabic language for composing his literary contributions. He was a great scholar, poet and historian of his time. He travelled far and wide and gained command over Arabic language. His verse is as sound as it has been admired by the native Arab. He wrote many books, both prose and verse, on various topic. This article sheds light on the literary contribution of Syed Ghulam Ali Azad to Arabic language and literature.
