No full textDr. Iftikhar Siddiqui is a renowned critic and researcher of Urdu. Translation work is one of his fortes. He has translated numbers of article from English into Urdu. But his Urdu rendition of Allama Iqbal's diary namely Stray Reflection merits to be mentioned as he has employed all possible literary beauties in its translation which has made this translation itself a piece of literary value. Another scholar has also translated the same diary into Urdu. The article presents comparative study of both of the translations besides highlighting overall review of the translation.

The story of literary contributions of forces did not end with the emergence of Pakistan. There arose great poets from armed forces of Pakistan who not only proved their mettle by discharging their duties as the defenders of the boundary of motherland but also demonstrated their poetic excellence by contributing to Urdu poetry. No full textFaiz Ahmad Faiz stands unique among modern poets of Urdu. Stylish qualities of Faiz made him prominent among his contemporaries. His symbolic and metaphorical system is very robust and strong. Faiz avoided the traditional style of diction and symbolism. He gave new meanings to the traditional diction. The sound and sweetness of ghazal is very much present in the blank verse of Faiz. This article reveals the slow and soft tone of versification which is a unique quality of Faiz. The soft tone of Faiz attracts his friend and opponents alike. His best collection "Ghubar-e- Ayyam" reflects a change after the independence, is an outcome of Pakistan's political turmoil.

No full textIntizar Husain is one of the great and significant fiction writers of modern day Urdu literature. He has employed symbolic and historical notions in his writing. Since Intizar Sahib is well aware of political, social and economic changes, he has interwoven his fiction around these issues implicitly or explicitly. He has also written on historical incidents, experience of migration and its consequence on nature of migrants and fall of Dhaka etc. The article discusses all these issues in light of Intizar Husain's writings with special focus on his political insightness.

No full textPost colonial trend in literature begins with the resistance against colonial system. This trend got developed in one shape or other in the occupied countries with the start of resistance movement against colonialism. This resistance was all encompassing and could be felt on socio-political and literary levels. This movement is aimed at reversal of colonial system and revival of indigenous values side by side revivification of golden values of the past. There emerged great literary persons committed to this movement in almost all occupied countries and they caused a revolution like effect in the currents of their respective literature. This article focuses the Orient side of the said movement.

No full textJabir Ali Syed was a renowned Urdu critic but he was least known as a poet. Though a critic is not recognized as a good poet yet he was an exception. He was as good a poet as was a critic. He published a verse collection by the name of MAUJ-E-AHANG. Many of his verse have yet to be published. This article presents a study of him as a poet. An analysis of his published and unpublished works has been made and his principles of criticism and standards have also been employed. Specimens from his verse have also been given to highlight his ideas on criticism.

This article highlights the importance of historical novels besides its brief description in Urdu.
