Sir Syed Ahmed Khan is known as a Muslim reformer of the 19th century. He played an important role in introducing modern Urdu verse and prose. He himself was a prominent author, editor and compiler. Altaf Husain Hali is a well known poet, prose writer and critic etc. Shibli Naumani is another great name of Urdu literature. Shibli was a distinguished scholar, writer and poet. Hali and Shibli were close companions of Sir Syed. They discussed the personality and achievements of Sir Syed in their verses. The article analyses the status of Sir Syed in the light of the verse of the said two great names of Urdu.

Characterization has special value in novel writing. Its significance is no way lesser than the plot or story as it is the basic ingredient of a novel. Hijab Imtiaz Ali Taj's novel "Paghal Khana" has unique plot and characterization. Hijab successfully accomplishes this novel and fulfills all the aesthetic demands of it. The style used in "Paghal Khana" is informatics as well as interesting. The whole novel revolves around three main characters and one leading character bears the hints of Hijab's own life.

Moulana Abdul Hamid Badayuni was one of the prominent personalities of Muslim politics in the Sub-continent. He participated in Pakistan Movement. He was a confidant of the Quad-i-Azam. He played active role in getting Muslim League popular among the Muslims. Since basically he was a religious scholar, he dedicated his energies towards Islamic issues after establishing of Pakistan. His role in shaping and maintaining Muslim identity is praise worthy. This article covers life and work of Abdul Hamid Badayuni with special reference to his services in Pakistan Movement.

Meeraji is a prominent poet of 20th century who reshaped modern Urdu poem, new form, unique style and a variety of new ideas. He had a great exposure of western literature and criticism which helped him adding a specific flavour to Urdu poetry. Although, he is a great poet of his era, he wrote some short stories as well. These stories were published in the renowned journals of his time. These short stories are his introduction as a fiction writer. These stories reveal the individual and social complicated behaviors as well as psychological complications which are presented through metaphor, symbol and allegory. This article focuses Meeraji as a short story writer.

Urdu, after Persian, is the great repository of Islamic literature. Hence it stood for the Muslims' identity in the Sub-continent. It faced resistance by the Hindu majority who wanted promotion of Hindi written in Devnagri script. This was unacceptable for the Muslims who could not even think of abandoning it as it had become identical to the Muslims of the Sub-continent. Urdu has also been one of the causes of establishing of Pakistan. Unluckily, due to clashing interest of the ruling elite, Urdu could not become official language of Pakistan. This article sheds light on the efforts employed for making Urdu official language as well as reviews the institutions established for this purpose.

The article explores the linguistic experiments made by Zafar Iqbal in his collection namely 'Gulaaftab'. Apparently, he has distorted the conventional style of composing poetry by making amendments and innovations in grammar and language and by introducing a self-coined diction. He has unified the words, similes and allusions from different languages and has created a cultural harmony. However, where 'Gulaaftab' has complicated the verse pattern, it has also broadened the horizon of poetry by exploring new dimensions
اردو شاعرات کی غزل میں ہندی عناصر
In Urdu poetry, the concept of beloved is very complicated. Under the influence of Persian poetry, beloved's gender is not defined. It gives shades of male as well as female in different scenarios. This situation is complex for female composers. Masculine form for beloved suits them but there is no tradition of female lover in Persian and Urdu poetry. It is why Urdu poetesses incline towards Indian tradition of love poetry according to which beloved is male and lover is female. Love, loyalty, sacrifice and obedience are naturally feminine traits. These sentiments for beloved from female are common in Indian love tradition. This article sheds light on Hindi elements in Ghazals by Urdu poetesses
