No full textFreedom is perhaps the most cherished passion of humanity. History witnesses that individuals and nations have made supreme sacrifices to achieve and maintain it. But the tragedy is that man has been slaving his fellows. This article is a study into the evolution of various concepts of freedom through history. It concludes with the assertion that ultimately it is Islam which presents the most comprehensive and perfect model of this concept and bestows humanity with dignity, regard and confidence.

No full textThere is a system of exchange of sounds in the novels of Qurratulain Hyder. The exchange of sounds is usually found in the daily conversation of illiterate people. They make this exchange according to their region, social set-up and culture. This does not happen with any deliberate effort; rather it happens automatically and naturally. This exchange of sounds shows that human beings make exchanges of sounds according to their social milieus and needs. This behavior creates easiness in communication and also enlarges the canvas of a language. The system of exchange of sounds in the novels by Qurratulain Hyder shows that the range of exchange is not limited in any language. It depends on the speakers how they derive meanings and connotations from words. Furthermore, these exchanges are made in view of some social needs and necessities

No full textUrdu ghazal having been equipped with its diverse expressive devices is known as sinf-e-hazarshewa. There is a unique technique in this genre for the expression of thoughts and feelings by exploiting non-linguistic signifiers instead of words and phrases.This method of acquisition and expression of thoughts and feelings through signal-based communication mode is an old technique of our linguistic system. Moreover, such para-linguistic communication methodology, being closed to nature is proving out to be more effective and eloquent than traditional expressive devices. In the wake of this old expressive system, an organized poetics exist just like the traditional modes of our linguistic expressions. In Urdu, such unique method of expressions still exists in today's ghazal. The article discusses the ideological and applied aspect of this particular mode of expression.

No full textFaiz Ahmad Faiz is considered as one of the important poets of the 20th century. His non-traditional life played an important role in his poetic fame. In this context, his four year imprisonment period on false accusation of being rebel is very important. His imprisonment catapulted his fame at national and international levels and soon he was considered as the top class poet of Urdu. His prison life enabled him to have variety of experiences and subjects which effected not only verse of Faiz but also whole Urdu poetry. His best poetry came into being during his prison life. At the same time, his prison life limited his poetry to particular topics. In this article, effect of prison life on Faiz's poetry has been analyzed
