    Hafiz Mahmood Khan Shirani is the pioneer of modern research in Urdu language and literature. He travelled to England for higher studies where he got a chance to work with a company dealing with manuscripts of Oriental languages. His stay in England and work at this company introduced him to modern research methodology. His hard work and profound knowledge in the field of manuscript won him international fame. This article is a study of Shirani's literary contribution especially in modern Urdu research.

    Capitalism is in a way a continuation of the feudal system. This system is directly related to the French and the Russian revolutions. The Bolshevik movement served as oxygen in pursuit of the rights of workers and peasants. It did not only impacted workers and peasants but also influenced the world literature. Russian literary trend was propagated under the influence of the progressive movement in the 1936. Poets of the Subcontinent played an important role in promoting Marxist and Socialist thoughts, among which the names of Sajjad Zaheer, Ali Sardar Jafri, Faiz, Sahir and Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi are prominent.     Amir Khosrow is one of the greatest Persian poets of the Subcontinent. His knowledge in Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Hindi languages enabled him to employ exotic puns and stunning literary tricks. He was requested by Alaudin Khilji's son Khizr Khan to compose his romance with the princess Dowal Rani, the daughter of Raja Karan of Gujrat. Amir Khosrow composed this long poem of 4200 verses in only four months. He also sang a chorus of praise for the soil and the soul of India. He always seems to prefer the Indian exquisiteness over the beauties of Egypt, Rome, Samarqand and rest of the world. He goes on revealing the charming grace of India, its elegance and diversity. He highly appreciates Indian learning and wisdom in its languages, particularly for Sanskrit which is in no way inferior to Persian.     Iqbal, the most eminent poet of the 20th century seems to be a naturalist in his earlier works especially the first part of his Urdu collection "Bang e Dara". However, his stay at Europe brings a big change in his political and nationalistic thoughts. His concepts about nature also tend to change. Nature is no more a romantic phenomenon for him rather he draws broader meanings of life from it. Conquering of nature now becomes an essential part of his concepts of "Khudi" and" Mard e Momin". He now believes in humanism instead of naturalism. This article identifies changes in the concept of nature  found in Iqbal's poetry
