مختصر کہانی: افسانوی ادب میں نئی جہت
The trend of shorter story under different names such as flash fiction, micro fiction etc has become very popular in world literature. Though Urdu has already traces of shorter story f fiction in fables, dastaan yet in modern form it is directly impressed by the English shorter story. In terms of form, it is much shorter than short story. It started in Urdu with Sadat Hasan Manto’s Siah Hashye in 1948. He was followed by Joginder Pal Singh. There is a long list of writers who contributed in this field like Dr Muzaffar Hanfi, DH Shah, Ratan Singh, Dr Azeem Rahi, Abbas Khan, Mansha Yaad, Pervez Bilgrami, Anwar Rahim, Dr Akhlaq Gilani, Deepak Badki, Qaiser Nazir Khawar, Mubashir Ali Zaidi, Syed Majid Shah etc. Now short story of about a hundred word is also getting popular in Urdu

Mi’raaj-un-Nabi has a great impact on Muslim thoughts and views. Narration of the event of Mi’raaj is found in whole Muslim literature of each language. The Sufis have been using the terminology of Mi’raaj to depict their own mystical experiences and observations. The written contemplation of Muslim saints and classical Islamic literature contain the elements of thoughts related closely to Mi’raaj. Krishan Chandar (1914-1977) was an Urdu and Hindi writer of short stories and novels. He was a prolific writer, penning over 20 novels. 30 collections of short stories and scores of radio plays . His literary masterpieces on the Bengal famine are some of the finest specimens of modern Urdu literature. Slang words are found side by side with standard words in every language of the world. They help to express a situation in which standard words fail to do so. It’s why slang words get inroads into a language and it is very likely that with time they may attain a level of standard-ness. Like any other language, slangs abound in the Punjabi language. The article briefly defines the main feature of slang and tries to differentiate the linguistic terms cant, jargon and argot. Since no work on the Punjabi slang has been undertaken so far, a specimen has been given at the end of the article to pave the way for work in this direction.

Urdu fiction is proving to be helpful in developing a new global consciousness. It has attained the height of artistic maturity owing to the employment of symbolism. The Urdu fiction has the full potential to portray cultural chaos, decaying morality, sexual perversion, instability, aggression, terrorism, issues related to family life, apathy, selfishness, egoism, snobbery, disappearance of middle classes, social and political interests, loneliness, psychological disturbances, soulless life, a sense of exile, self-made religious beliefs etc. Specimens from different short stories have been incorporated in the article to show the changing trends in contemporary Urdu fiction

Literary letters are considered to be an important document in Urdu literature. They unfold the hidden aspects of a literary personality. Research on Urdu letters along compilation and editing started with the publication of Mirza Ghalib’s letters. Special attention has been paid to editing of letters but unluckily, research done on the subject is not up to the mark. The tradition of letter-writing in Urdu is very rich but research work on printed letters is inadequate. The article is a review of research work on letters in Urdu literature

Allama Iqbal admired the greatness of the fabulous brains of his ancestors and of his own era by mentioning their names in his poetry, highlighting their ideology. There are more than fifty poems having title on the names of personalities who left lasting impact on the people. One such poem is titled as “Swami Ram Tirath” which is included in “Bang e Dara”. Initially, it was comprised of seven coupelets later on Allama Iqbal resized it to six couplets. In this poem Iqbal has praised the thoughts of Swami Raam Tirath.
