Investigation of Pneumococcus, Influenza, Covid-19 Vaccination Rates and Affecting Factors in Patients aged 65 and over
Objective: This study was planned to determine the vaccination rates and related factors with Pneumococcal, Influenza and Covid-19 vaccines in adults aged 65 and over who applied to the Family Medicine Outpatient Clinic. Methods: The sample of the descriptive study consisted of 200 volunteer adult patients aged 65 and over who applied to the Family Medicine outpatient clinic between May and October 2021. AThe data were collected by applying a face-to-face interview with descriptive features. Results: The mean age of the participants was 71.21 +/- 5.97 years. Influenza vaccination rate of all participants in the last 1 year was 24.50%, Pneumococcal vaccination rate in the last 5 years was 42%, and Covid-19 vaccination rate was 86%. In our study, having a chronic disease was the factor that increased the rate of influenza vaccination, it was determined that the factor determining the pneumococcal vaccination rate was affected by the habit of going to the family doctor regularly (p<0.05). Individuals who did not receive the Covid-19 vaccine stated that they did not have the vaccine because they were afraid of the side effects of the vaccine and did not find the vaccine safe. Conclusions: Our study revealed that adult vaccination rates are low and they do not have enough information about their vaccinations. Health professionals, especially family physicians, have important duties to determine the factors affecting the level of knowledge about immunization in adults, to increase awareness and to make preventive medicine reach more people
Assessment of Human Capital Performance for E-7 and G-7 Countries Based on Topsis Method
Human capital, which is defined as an investment in human beings, is important in terms of economic development. In the changing and developing world, it is seen as an important tool for economic growth as well as social development. For this reason, the subject of human capital is an area that attracts the attention of academics. In this study, the performances of E-7 and G-7 countries on human capital have been tried to be measured. In this context, the variables that are thought to affect human capital for countries were evaluated using the TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) technique. In addition, Spearman's rank correlation analysis was applied to determine the relationship between TOPSIS an HDI (Human Development Index) rankings. From the analysis results, it was determined that the country with the highest human capital performance was the USA, and the lowest country was India. In addition, as a result of investigating the relationship between the ranking made by the TOPSIS method and the ranking of HDI, it was determined that the rankings overlapped with each other in accordance with the expectation. In other words, it has been concluded that the human development of countries with high human capital performance is also successful
Determination of the Promising Advanced Bread Wheat Lines in Terms of Quality Traits in the Thrace Region
This study was carried out in Tekirdağ-Hayrabolu and Edirne locations in order to investigate some advanced bread wheat lines in terms of some quality traits under the conditions of Thrace Region during 2020-2021 wheat growing period. The study also aimed to identify promising advanced bread wheat lines with product quality suitable for the Thrace Region, which are suitable for registration and have gene source potential. In the experiments, 10 advanced bread wheat lines (NZFE 197, NZFE 199, NZFE 200, NZFE 201, NZFE 202, NZFE 204, NZFE 209, NZFE 213, NZFE 215 and NZFE 218) and 5 standard bread wheat varieties (Gelibolu, Selimiye, Rumeli, NKÜ Lider and Esperia) were used as materials. The experiments were conducted in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. Protein ratio, wet gluten content, gluten index, zeleny sedimentation value and delayed sedimentation value were investigated in the study. It was determined that protein ratio 11.95%- 14.98, wet gluten content 26.83-34.83 %, gluten index 85.33-96.00 %, zeleny sedimentation value 33.17-55.50 ml and delayed sedimentation value 42.33-69.83 ml were varied. The best results after our standard varieties were obtained from advanced lines. In conclusion, it can be said that NZFE 204 and NZFE 213 advanced lines for quality traits are promising variety candidates for Thrace Region. These lines were taken into registration experiments for re-testing
Development and validation of assay method for benserazide hydrochloride active ingredient

Bu bileşik, merkezi sinir sistemine girmeyen bir aromatik-L-amino-asit dekarboksilaz inhibitörüdür ve levodopaya yardımcı olarak parkinson hastalığının tedavisinde kullanılır (Ulusal Biyoteknoloji Bilgi Merkezi, 2023). Parkinson hastalığı, sinir sisteminde meydana gelen bir bozukluktur ve beyinde üretilen dopaminin eksikliğinden kaynaklanmaktadır. Dopamin, beynin kas hareketlerini kontrol eden kısmında mesajları iletir. Dopamin çok az üretiliyorsa, hareketlerle ilgili sorunlar ortaya çıkar. Levodopa, kan-beyin bariyerini aşarak beyne girip belirli sinir hücreleri tarafından dopamin haline dönüştürülebilmektedir ve beyindeki dopamin düzeyini yükselterek etki gösteren ilaç hammaddesidir (Pickover, 2012; Türkiye İlaç ve Tıbbi Cihaz Kurumu, 2016). Benserazid, Levodopanın periferde dopamine dönüşümünü engelleyerek levodopa miktarını artırarak etki gösterir. Dünya genelinde kullanılan levodopa ve benserazid kombinasyon ürünleri, Parkinson hastalığının tedavisi için yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır (Ulusal Biyoteknoloji Bilgi Merkezi, 2023). Bu çalışmanın amacı benserazid hidroklorür etken maddesinin miktar tayinine yönelik literatürde bulunmayan yeni bir Yüksek Performans Sıvı Kromatografisi (HPLC) yöntemi geliştirmektir. Geliştirilen analitik yöntem validasyon parametreleri ile doğrulanmıştır. Geliştirilen yöntemde analitlerin ayrımı için Waters Symmetry C8 (4.6 mm x 150 mm, 3.5 µm), potasyum dihidrojen fosfat ve oktan-1-sülfonik asit sodyum tuzu tamponu ve asetonitril ile gradient bir program oluşturarak ayrım sağlanmıştır. Uluslararası ilaç uyum konseyi (ICH)'e göre etken madde miktar tayini limiti %98-%102 arasında olmalıdır. Geliştirilen metod ile validasyon parametreleri ICH Q2(R1) klavuzu baz alınarak yapılmıştır. Yöntemin seçici, tekrarlanabilir ve sağlam bir yöntem olduğu görülmüştür. This compound is an aromatic-L-amino-acid decarboxylase inhibitor that does not enter the central nervous system and is used to treat parkinsonism as an adjunct to levodopa (Ulusal Biyoteknoloji Bilgi Merkezi, 2023). Parkinson's disease is a disorder of the nervous system and is caused by a deficiency of dopamine produced in the brain. Dopamine transmits messages in the part of the brain that controls muscle movements. If dopamine is produced too little, problems with movement occur. Levodopa crosses the blood-brain barrier and enters the brain where it can be converted into dopamine by certain nerve cells and is a pharmaceutical raw material that acts by increasing the level of dopamine in the brain (Pickover, 2012; Türkiye İlaç ve Tıbbi Cihaz Kurumu, 2016). Benserazide acts by increasing the amount of levodopa by inhibiting the conversion of levodopa to dopamine in the periphery. Levodopa and benserazide combination products used worldwide are widely used for the treatment of Parkinson's disease (Ulusal Biyoteknoloji Bilgi Merkezi, 2023). The aim of this study was to develop a new High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) method for assay of the active substance benserazide hydrochloride, which is not available in the literature. The developed analytical method was validated with validation parameters. In the developed method, the separation was achieved by creating a gradient program with Waters Symmetry C8 (4.6 mm x 150 mm, 3.5 µm), potassium dihydrogen phosphate and octane-1-sulfonic acid salt buffer and acetonitrile for the separation of analytes. According to the International Council for Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Pharmaceuticals for Human Use (ICH), the limit for determining the amount of active substances should be between 98% and 102%. With the developed method, the validation parameters were made according to the ICH Q2(R1) guideline. It has been seen that the method is a selective, precision and robustness method. Anne Sütü Alım Süresi ve Kesilme Zamanını Etkileyen Faktörler
Aim: Breast milk is the ideal type of nutrition for infants. Breastfeeding has many benefits for the mother, baby and society. In this study, we aimed to determine the sociodemographic factors that affect the duration of breastfeeding and the time of weaning in the children of mothers who have children aged 5 and under, to detect the problems that will occur during the breastfeeding process in advance and to contribute to the precautions that need to be taken. Materials and Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in which a survey was conducted with mothers or caregivers of children aged 5 and under. Our study was conducted by the researcher using the face-to-face survey method. In the survey; the child's gender, age, type of birth, week of birth, birth weight, when he first breastfed, whether he used formula or not, if so, the reason, when he started the first complementary food, how much breast milk he received only and in total, the number of siblings, if any, for how long. Breastfeeding, household's total income, mother's prenatal breastfeeding education status, mother and father's sociodemographic characteristics, occupations, working and health status, and mother's emotional state were questioned. Results: The cesarean delivery rate in the group with breastfeeding for less than 1 year was significantly (p<0.05) higher than the group with breastfeeding for more than 1 year. The rate of the mother receiving prenatal breastfeeding education in the group with breastfeeding for more than 1 year was significantly (p<0.05) higher than the group with breastfeeding for less than 1 year. The rate of breastfeeding within the first hour in the group with breast milk intake over 1 year was significantly higher than in the group with breast milk intake under 1 year (p<0.05). In the group whose breastfeeding is over 1 year, the proportion of those who think that their child should be breastfed until the age of 2 is; Breast milk intake was significantly higher than the group under 1 year. Maternal education level was significantly (p<0.05) higher in the group with breastfeeding for more than 1 year than in the group with breastfeeding for less than 1 year. The maternal employment rate in the group with breastfeeding for more than 1 year was significantly (p<0.05) higher than the group with breastfeeding for less than 1 year. Conclusion: Breastfeeding is very important for a baby's healthy development and protection from diseases in the first two years of life. It is every baby's natural right to be fed with breast milk. Determining the timing of breastfeeding and the factors that lead to its cessation in our country and region will contribute to taking precautions in this regard and increasing the duration of breastfeeding. If possible, breastfeeding education starting before birth, supporting the mother after birth, and providing appropriate opportunities for breastfeeding for working mothers will increase the duration of breast milk intake
Identification and molecular characterisation of viruses inonion, garlic and leek production areas in the MarmaraRegion and determination of the reactions of some onion andgarlic genotypes against the most common viruses
Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü, Bitki Koruma Ana Bilim DalıBu çalışmada, Marmara Bölgesi (Bursa, Edirne, Kocaeli, Kırklareli, Sakarya ve Tekirdağ) soğan, sarımsak ve pırasa üretim alanlarında Onion yellow dwarf virus (OYDV), Leek yellow stripe virus (LYSV), Garlic common latent virus (GCLV), Shallot latent virus (SLV) ve Iris yellow spot virus (IYSV) 'un belirlenmesi, elde edilen izolatların genotipik yatkınlık düzeylerinin ve genotiplerin en yaygın virüse karşı reaksiyonlarının ortaya çıkarılması amaçlanmıştır. 778 adet soğan, sarımsak ve pırasa bitkisinden örnekleme yapılmış ve toplanan örnekler OYDV, LYSV, GCLV, SLV ve IYSV'ye karşı ELISA ve RT-PCR yöntemleri ile testlenmiştir. Yapılan test çalışması sonucunda toplanan örneklerin 372 tanesinin (%47.8) enfekteli olduğu belirlenmiştir. Örneklerin 175 tanesinde (%22.49) OYDV, 26 tanesinde (%3.34) GCLV, 79 tanesinde (%10.15) LYSV, 53 tanesinde (%6.81) IYSV, 39 tanesinde (%5.01) SLV ve enfekteli örneklerin 62 tanesinde (%16.6) karışık enfeksiyon tespit edilmiştir. Atatürk Bahçe Kültürleri Merkez Araştırma Enstitüsü'ne ait 6 adet sarımsak ve 15 adet soğan genotipine Bursa'dan alınan OYDV TR-OK64 (OR923732) izolatı inokule edilmiş, JMP Pro 13 programı kullanılarak istatiksel hesaplamalar yapılmıştır. Bunun sonucunda sarımsak genotiplerinin yaprak uzunluğunda %13.49-23.9, yumru baş boyunda %18.38-28.73, yumru baş çapında %21.88-30.81, yumru baş ağırlığında %23.21-29.14; soğan genotiplerinin yaprak uzunluğunda %12.12-41.04, yumru baş ağırlığında %12.96-48.30, yumru çapında %11.57-30.17, yumru baş boyunda %11.81-31.72 oranında azalma meydana gelmiştir. Filogenetik analiz sonucunda GCLV izolatları %85.2-97, IYSV izolatları %90.4- 97.5, LYSV izolatları %84.6-98.1, OYDV izolatları %74.1-99.8 ve SLV izolatları %78.2-91.7 oranlarında NCBI GenBankasına kayıtlı bazı izolatlarla nükleotid dizilimi bakımından benzerlik göstermiştir.In this study, Onion yellow dwarf virus (OYDV), Leek yellow stripe virus (LYSV), Garlic common latent virus (GCLV), Shallot latent virus (SLV) and Iris yellow spot virus's (IYSV) were investigated in onion, garlic and leekgrowing areas, genotypic susceptibility levels and genotypes reactions to the most common virus were aimed in areas of Marmara Region (Bursa, Edirne, Kocaeli, Kırklareli, Sakarya and Tekirdağ). 778 onion, garlic and leek plants were sampled and the collected samples were tested against OYDV, LYSV, GCLV, SLV and IYSV by ELISA and RT-PCR methods. As a result of the test study, 372 (47.8%) of the collected samples were found to be infected. OYDV was detected in 175 (22.49%), GCLV in 26 (3.34%), LYSV in 79 (10.15%), IYSV in 53 (6.81%), SLV in 39 (5.01%) and mixed infection in 62 (16.6%) of the infected samples. Six garlic and 15 onion genotypes of Atatürk Horticultural Research Institute were inoculated with OYDV TR-OK64 (OR923732) isolate from Bursa and statistical calculations were made using JMP Pro 13 program. As a result, 13.49-23.9% decrease in leaf length, 18.38-28.73% decrease in tuber head length, 21.88-30.81% decrease in tuber head diameter, 23.21-29.14% decrease in tuber head weight of garlic genotypes; 12.12-41.04% decrease in leaf length, 12.96-48.30% decrease in tuber head weight, 11.57-30.17% decrease in tuber diameter, 11.81-31.72% decrease in tuber head length of onion genotypes. As a result of phylogenetic analysis, GCLV isolates 85.2-97%, IYSV isolates 90.4-97.5%, LYSV isolates 84.6-98.1%, OYDV isolates 74.1-99.8% and SLV isolates 78.2-91.7% showed similarity in terms of nucleotide sequence with some isolates registered in NCBI GenBank

Optimization of sensory properties of ultrasound-treated strawberry vinegar
Vinegar is renowned for its benefits to human health due to the presence of antioxidants and bioactive components. Firstly, this study optimized the production conditions of ultrasound-treated strawberry vinegar (UTSV), known for its high consumer appeal. The sensory properties of UT-SV were optimized by response surface methodology (RSM) to create the most appreciated strawberry vinegar. Secondly, various quality parameters of conventional strawberry vinegar (C-SV), UT-SV, and thermally pasteurized strawberry vinegar (P-SV) samples were compared. RSM was employed to craft the best strawberry vinegar based on consumers ratings of UT-SV. Sensory characteristics, bioactive values, phenolic contents, and organic acid contents of C-SV, UT-SV, and P-SV samples were assessed. Through optimization, the ultrasound parameters of the independent variables were determined as 5.3 min and 65.5 % amplitude. The RSM modeling levels exhibited high agreement with pungent sensation at 98.06 %, aromatic intensity at 98.98 %, gustatory impression at 99.17 %, and general appreciation at 99.26 %, respectively. Bioactive components in UT-SV samples increased after ultrasound treatment compared to C-SV and P-SV samples. Additionally, the amount of malic acid, lactic acid, and oxalic acid increased after ultrasound treatment compared to C-SV samples. Ultimately, UT-SV with high organoleptic properties was achieved. The Effects of High Pressure Processing on Total Mesophilic Aerobic Bacteria Number and Color Properties of Frozen and Unfrozen Beef Mince
NKUBAP.00.24.DR.12.04High hydrostatic pressure processing (HPP) is a cold pasteurization technology that can be applied after packaging to products damaged by heat treatment. In this study, the effects of different levels (300, 350 and 450 MPa) of pressure applied at different temperatures (-5, 0 and 10 oC) and durations (5, 10 and 15 min) on the total mesophilic aerobic bacteria count (TMAB) and color values of frozen and unfrozen beef mince were investigated. The most effective factor on the number of TMAB was pressure. Freezing resulted in increased inactivation. In the application performed at constant temperature (10 oC), the difference in inactivation between frozen and unfrozen samples was seen maximum at 300MPa pressure application. Inactivation increased with increasing pressure level and time. At different application temperatures, the most effective inactivation of 300 MPa HPP in frozen and unfrozen samples occurred at -5 oC in 15 minutes. The increase in L* value of frozen samples was less than that of non-frozen samples. This contributes to the preservation of freshness properties in meat. An increase in the L* value was observed with the increase in pressurization time. Increasing the pressure level caused a decrease in the a* value, and freezing caused an increase in the a* value. It was determined that the 300-450 MPa HPP range was not large enough to observe changes in b* values. ΔE values in frozen samples were determined to be higher than in non-frozen samples. If freezing and pressure are applied in combination, a microbiologically safer product with a color closer to fresh properties can be obtained.This research was funded by Tekirdağ Namık Kemal University Scientific Research Projets Commision (NKUBAP
Virus diseases of wheat and control strategies
Both the wheat species Triticum aestivum L. and Triticum durum Desf., which have wheat cultivars that are most important for small grain field crops, are grown worldwide as food sources for a rapidly increasing world population. Because of recent global climate changes, pathogenic diseases, pests, and abiotic stress factors on wheat crops have become more detrimental than ever before. Increases in atmospheric temperature have stimulated drought stress as well as having caused increased vector-borne viruses and other systemic disease pathogens. Another influence caused by ongoing global climate change is that sporadic local virus diseases are becoming more widespread by vector-borne transmissions. Wheat cultivars are naturally found susceptible to at least 30 virus diseases under field conditions. However, five of those viruses, namely, yellow dwarf viruses (YDVs), wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV), wheat dwarf virus (WDV), soilborne wheat mosaic virus (SBWMV), and wheat spindle streak mosaic virus (WSSMV), occur in all wheat-growing areas of the world and cause substantial grain yield losses. Thus, this chapter will examine host range and disease incidence geographically in the world, disease symptoms, the morphological and molecular structure of viruses, and the annual disease cycle. It will also review disease management. In conclusion, the impact of these wheat virus diseases on food security is evaluated in this chapter. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.
